Scott Fulton [Discussion]

It’s weird right? They seem to waste all this money with poor decisions re HR because of their inability to work together, but somehow justify savings on travel costs, dencorub, bandages etc. and expect the team to work together?
Yet, there are those who say the players shouldnt be the least bit concerned with the backroom politics and BS?... LOL
A few pointed comments from Richo suggest to me ‘the times are a changing’.

I don’t think Fulton did too bad job at all.

He was recruited without the knowledge of Tim and Benji in the secret board meeting.

Lee and Co realised after a handful of rounds that the Sheens resurrection had backfired and instead of coming back from the dead, he was dragging us into the grave.

So tweak his tail and sack his recruitment mate and do it as underhandedly as possible. Tim was gone as a force and saviour at that point. Which proved to be the right decision, but given Lee and Justin helped cause the problem at first instance, that’s little comfort. Throwing a bucket of water on a burning house at that point.

Who could forget Tims “Brooks is wonderful” nonsense. We “improved” all the way to the spoon. A period of “ negative growth”

Before he got sacked, Lees interview about no one being guaranteed a job but things were improving. I wondered how many spoons we would need before we finished improving?!

And Tim slinking off back home to England. Just disappeared into a sink hole. Even the deadbeat Ivan texted the players goodbye. It’s the thought that counts I guess.

Looking ahead, I think Cogger was the better deal, especially long term. He finished last season on the high note Fulton predicted.

But all that said, Fulton imploded when he spoke to Zorba and the salad affair came to light. The inference of Benji getting a dollar from the deal was not ideal for club harmony. Talk about dirty laundry. Really nasty allegation for anyone. I have my usual Benji issues but I would not sink that low.

I think Fulton made a miscalculation, simply underestimated Benjis power and influence.

We need a recruiter, I like the dogs guy. He’s got a fair chunk of players but cc can’t get them motivated. What he’s done to Burto and Co, he should be arrested.

Anyway, Fulton is not worth dying on a hill for, but before he strayed out of his lane, he had a go. More importantly, he was a nice wad of kindling for the end of Lee and Co. Ironic that they appointed him, then again, they were so incompetent it’s perhaps unsurprising!

I appreciate we are in a kind of an emergency junta thing at managerial level, and Im all behind it, but getting a full time professional recruiter is really important.

Keep Benj on the park training and Richo managing.

Otherwise there’s a chunk of time out.

Benji in particular needs almost all his focus on coaching as he’s still learning stuff. He’s only got so many hours in the day. He can’t be penning through Cows juniors looking for discount fringie.

The club will have a number of recruiters on-the-ground in Sydney & perhaps elsewhere (at the Recruitment Officer level) and I reckon Matt Betsey will be doing a lot of the managerial recruitment work in his new role in conjunction with Richo & whoever the new CFO will be (all with Benji's input, approval & meeting players etc). That's how I see it atm.

Mmm, interesting, thanks.

It’s such a critical part of the operation.

Limited positions, limited funds and resources, enormous mathematical gymnastics to face and that’s before someone jumps in the car to heads off to an airport to meet a prospect.

Then the psychological challenge of convincing someone to join, their managers, family etc on occasion.

And you might have to push the envelope quite a bit to get them into shop.

If it’s a marquee under contract elsewhere, you may need lawyers and all kinds of Uber persuasive skills.

Not an easy assignment.

A big name as a brilliant footballer yes but, as a decent person, not at all. Sounds like Scott might have inherited little of his father's footballing abilities but some of his unsavoury personality traits.
I know a person, a good decent hardworking guy ( one of the few I know) that Bob Fulton completely ripped off. Refused to pay him for good work rendered.

Bozo had a very strange and entitled view about money. He was legendary, rude and mean to the core.

I am judging Scott on his his role with us and from what I know about him he got a pass.

I don’t think he was ever a fully patched up member for Lee and Co. Scott was about Scott!

Once he was bagging the coach in the media he had to go.

Like your thinking TK, welcome to the forum and keep the good , logical stuff coming !

You lost me at cogger .
If we got Cogger on a 4 year deal instead of Sezer , we would have been continuing the mediocrity .
And he wanted 400-500k, so now you have from 25 onward , Cogger , Fainu and Sullivan at 1.5 million dollars , which if you go after Luai now sits you at 2.8 mil between 4 players . None of which can move to 9 or fullback .
It was short sighted and stupid to go after Cogger . Benji was right to kick the can down the road 1 year with Sezer .
We sign Cogger and we don’t sign Luai . You can argue differently ie. we could just offload players . But now the cap isn’t available and youre telling the NSW 6 to wait until you offload cap space . Or you do sign luai , and now tou have to offload players to sign others .
Fulton is a myth . The only players he had any eyes for were ex. Manly players . Or tartak clients .

I think you’re making some assumptions.

Fulton brought some good players in and he worked on the JL project which had been foot for awhile.

Clubs will do all kinds of things at any time to secure target players.

Even Lee and co where into their Jerome.

People are rarely all bad or all good is my general position.

I don’t really mind if anyone disagrees.

Bobby Fulton YES,

Scott his Son... Nope.

Unfortunately the lack of professionalism of the Pascoe/Lee saw him added to the club poorly.
Nah....

I was actually with the board on this one. Sheens wasn't giving on field results. Seriously after the upgrade in our front row from 2022 -> 2023, we were coming dead set last.

The boards mistake was investing in Sheens to be "head coach", meaning he should have been improving Madge and sorting out the more structural issues. Things like "headhunting a halfback and thinking Adam Reynolds contract is about to expire and we have his old coach here*...". We should have seen involvement from Sheens and I saw no evidence of this.

Then the board appoints Sheens as coach, and with a better side we seemed to do worse in 2023.

Ofcourse the board was going to look outside the Sheens/Marshall/Farah bubble. We were more inbred then Tasmania!!! Why would the board tell Sheens when the board would suspect Sheens may try to sabotage the deal.

BTW all this makes me super sad and I rellish None of this. Sheens was a highly creative and exciting coach. I rather think of him as the Citroen of coaches, completely different and unusual. Sadly he had to end his career this way.

*instead we sign Jackson Hastings and Donkeys get Reynolds.

I have a few strange theories about Scott Fulton so I will run them here:

1. Scott was the one who offered David Klemmer for AFB.

2. Scott was identified as the leader *duh* and that's why Richo sacked him.

3. This is a continuation of the Fibro's vs Silvertails! Though still not sure who Scott was fighting for (if we signed Schultzer, then we would know it was manly).

Yep agree.
Which is why I said you lost me at cogger. Benji was 💯 right not to want cogger IMO. (The proof will be in the eating with cogger back in the 6 at newy). It’s not that he’s not a good first grader . I mean he is . But we have gone from solid first grader . To solid first grader . Like Hastings…. Who lead us to a spoon as well when Brooks was out .( people somehow forget this) .
Benji was after a circuit breaker , whether it be Fainu or Galvin , or someone else like luai .
4 years for cogger simply wasn’t it . That’s when I knew Fulton was a myth . Imagine chucking the toys out the cot for jack Cogger … I mean seriously !
