SHANE Shackleton doesn't have a club for 2013 - but the former City forward says any NRL club wanting to give him a go only needs to call.

The Sunday Telegraph caught up with the 30-year-old as he went through a gruelling workout alongside other NRL stars including Willie Mason and Penrith's James Segeyaro.

But while Mason and Segeyaro will be back training with the Knights and Panthers, respectively, in the coming weeks, Shackleton will be forced to continue his pre-season under the guidance of sprint coach Roger Fabri.

In the wake of his infamous Facebook message posted earlier this year about former Parramatta coach Stephen Kearney - Shackleton was asked why he wasn't playing NRL and replied, "(Steve) Kearney is a f…er" - Shackleton was punted from the Eels and finished the season at Penrith.

But he said his problems with Kearney started well before the Facebook message.

Despite playing well for Wentworthville, he couldn't get a crack for the Eels.

"It was just one of those years," he said. "As far as I could see, me and Steve got on pretty well. We were on friendly terms at training but the way it turned out I never got a look in. It was disappointing because I thought I was in good form.

"But that's in the past.

"I have been training non-stop, so if I went back to pre-season with any club I think I'd be sitting near the top of the pack with my fitness.

"It is a little bit different because I haven't been in this position before, but I am not feeling down or disheartened to be honest.

"I am doing everything that needs to be done. I am working hard with Rog.

"When I trained with him previously, it was the fittest I have been, so that's why I'm back."

Fabri added: "I worked with Shack when I was at the Roosters at the back end of '09 and then a little bit with him while he was at Parramatta.

"When Shack was training with me, he made the City side (in 2009 and 2011) and we are trying to recapture that form he showed then.

"He is very committed."

If he could re gain some of his form from 2-3 years ago could be a cheap pick up to bolster our prop situation.

A cheap experienced prop, who has a sense of humour and gets on well with fellow players irrespective of club?

Yes please.

Shackeltons alright. Had some unrealistic expectations placed on him when he made a city team that had like 20 first grade players to pick from. Was then signed on big money to parra, got a season ending injury in the first game and never really got a look in again.

Is a solid enough first grader, would be worth a go for us IMO. Decent depth forward

Love your work Ink!

Yes if only just for prop depth.
If the storm were to sign him you just know every body would be commenting on how well he'd be going and why we never approached him.
Heck, he'd probably help steer them to ANOTHER grand final!

He is ok.

My obvious issue would be getting him after letting Moors go who outplayed him at every turn when they faced off.

Really whatever the coach wants i am behind at this stage

Don't know to be honest

If you couldn't get into the Parra side last season you have to ask how well he really played

Look do we start the careers of one (or more) of the budding NYC fellas and take the time to build him into a quality player

If we rotated some of the young blokes between reggies and the NRL to not try and put too much pressure on them that might be a better move for the club for the future

We really are in a transitional stage and signing 30 year olds isn't going to help the future of the club

No offense Happy, but clubs who use terms like rebuilding phase or transitional phase are poorly organised. Proper clubs, just like any good organisations are not up for two years, and down for three, and up for two etc., As much as I hate them, and Storm and Broncos are perfect examples. Always hunting near the top.

Good organisations are always evolving and address these issues before they arise. If it means hiring a 30yo bloke to bolster the top, and then you do it. It means planning and patience. The players are patient when young and want to stay, so they don't go searching for a gig somewhere else at 19\. If you make your house somewhere they want to be, and then they stay.

Not too many leave those quality clubs because they breed success and loyalty. Be honest and upfront,
with quality players like Shackleton could be and you are guaranteed results.

Yes please. Good hard running prop. If Keith or Woods goes down we really only have one experienced prop left in Bell (not even 100% if he is here next year?). Would be an astute depth signing in my opinion.

Wouldn't be too expensive and has some experience. Would be worth having a chat with him at least.
