Shane Shackleton

While I agree that the Shack would be handy signing on a minimal contract I wish That Neil Begovich could be persuaded to have another crack at the big time, I know he went off of another career path but wouldn't it be great if his business would allow him 9 months of the year off to play footy at his proper standard rather than Group 6.

Shack is a good bloke, but on the wrong side of 30, and a good trier at best.

In our system we have 4 young players with excellent pedigree, the junior kiwi props, a former Australian Schoolboys player of the tour and the lad from St George who was super impressive in NYC last year that had alot of people talking. We are far better off investing time, cap space into these talents than a player who a his best is a job done player who is on the decline.

my mind is playing tricks on me I'm sure

but it seems like Shackleton went from debuting, to being a good young prospect, to being close to retirement, within about 18 months

lol, i know that feeling!

2 back up props down , grab the Shack , could be handy now , who knows with trial matches not far away , 1 more injury to a prop and we will have big problems , Gavet come to us as a back up prop / backrow , hes gone and so is groat , if big red goes down again or young Woodsy , kiss it good bye

X2.You can see 2009 happening all over again, with backrowers & kids playing up front

Would only look at picking up SS if he was dirt cheap I reckon. Thought he was massively overrated and overpaid by Parra…the Roosters pack made him look better than what he was while he was there.
Prefer to see a couple of the NYC boppers given a bit of a go...you never know we might have another young gem like Woodsy in our ranks.

experience is the only reason i would have him , we do have a lot of talent coming but they are young , he has the experience , i am only worried we may loose another forward prior to groat and gavet coming back , big red had foot problems and the two we lost are foot injuries , they say it comes in threes

But how many games has Shackleton played in total-would it be 100 yet?
And he hasn't played more than a handful in the last 2 seasons, would need to come at a bargain-bin price. Give our young fellas an occasional stint at the top level (not throw em to the wolves like happened with Groat), give them a taste and see who comes roaring out of the masses to become a WT legend. Only 39 days to go till season kick-off

Amazing what a questionable attitude and no respect for ones coach regardless of performance will get you.

No thanks

No need to worry Spartan - Penrith signed him.

I may have jumped the gun LaT - i read that the Panthers would be using him in the trials but his Twitter account says he is still in talks. They may be going to see how he goes in the trial before committing.

If he is, would have preferred if he got here before Xmas.

But if he has kept reasonably fit, passes a physical examination to ensure he isn't completely broken down, is signed to a bottom dollar contract for 12 months etc. can't see why not.

If we have an extra ~80k in the cap for the year, might as well use it now. Or even better, get him on match payments or a 2nd tier contract.

Either Josh Massoud's been reading the forum….or there might be some substance to this:

..................Club officials have also discussed new prop recruits with player agents.

Former City Origin representative Shane Shackleton has been mentioned as a possible re-inforcement.
