Shane Shackleton

We still have a representative/ token player on the footy show, not sure we need another to replace Beau.
Still, a lot of people spewed venom at the Matty Uttai signing, and look how good that turned out.
Over 30 anything isn't all that bad, in fact, many experts still feel forwards don't mature until 30.
If the idiots at the club haven't learned the value of their stupidity in letting Mason slip through their fingers, followed by the Sheens fiasco, then they should stood in front of a brick wall and made to listen to the Footy Show choir.

Gee halfway through this season there was a huge push from the forum to sign Shack when he was on the outer at the Eels, couldn't set the world on fire by going to the Panthers but he achieved his goal in the mid season switch, he played first grade in a team that finished higher up the ladder than Parramatta.
While Cashy tried his best it was obvious that he was a bit too long in the tooth to make a lasting impact so in hindsight we that is the club management would have been far better off signing a player like the Shack or Mason who could string 2 or more years more in their career and were basically cheap purchases.

You have got too love the off season – all speculation.
In reality it comes down to what the new coach wants & the club can afford.

I've not seen anything from Shakleton that suggests he'll make the Tigers a better team.

Thompson, Bell, Pettybourne, Groat… the U20's guys... even BMM at a push can play the same role.

lol here is another twitter thing nothing linking him to us tho, he is just having a muck around with Keithy

Unless there is someone who will add to our squad then pour any remaining cap into retaining our winning 20's players.

We can only spend our top tier salary cap on the top 25 players or we don't spend it on players. If we have extra money then we should use it to pay ahead 2014 contracts to give us more money to spend on 2014

Granted we look a little short up front, but with some SMART use of the interchange bench for the first time in yonks, and some SMART blooding of some of the real prospects coming the system we might get through the year okay. Of course a lot will depend on the injury god, we are due for s break in that department.

If I was Potter, I would put the cheque book back in the top drawer and wait for mid season and see how the squad reacts to the new era

Wests Tigers must have available props of good 1st grade quality to take over from Woods or Keith if either of them become injured. Just the same as spare parts must be avaiable quickly for cars in the case that they break down. Remember that Pettybourne does not normally play prop and that WT does not have any other experienced props to utilise. A dollar spent now for a capable prop is a dollar well spent. Look what happened last year when well into the season WT realised that they needed an extra prop but at that stage in the season there were not many to choose from.

Let's all not forget that we have a new coach here, and therefore a change in structure and attitude. I'm not sure Shackleton would have been an astute buy under Sheens whereas Potter may get the best out of him. We have a plethora of players capable of playing prop and some very talented U20's props, but we lack experience there. After Galloway, there's not many games between the rest.

shacks would also be signing possably his last contract , 1 year with option for one more , he will be ready to play and we still need that extra experience , would be handy

Galloway rarly gets through a full season without being injured so to have an experienced replacement in out squad will really help cover injuries.

We have some very fit props at our club. Woods was consistently playing 60+ mins per game, and Galloway definitely lifted his game time this year too. All our backrower are 80min players too. The thing is, with the nature of what a prop does, running full steam into a brick wall again and again, injuries and fatigue are inevitably going to occur. Even if Woods and KG can play extended minutes, I think they need to be rotated more frequently and supported by able replacements. There's no point letting two of your props get bashed for 60mins and the other one or two sit on the bench barely getting their hands dirty. Will be interesting to see how Potter organizes his bench, I think everyone was sick of Sheens' by the end
