Shannon Gallant signs with NQ Cowboys

It's a joke and an absolute disgrace!! He has been playing the same footy as he has always done. Yet he was the last person to be given a FAIR crack at the gig. This goes back to 2006-2007\. Yet WT have let talent like this be wasted away in StateCup/PremierLeague for years when the club failed to make the top 8 due to these stupid decisions.

True.

Those people on here who say he has played a bad game, i ask you one thing, show me. Show me where he has played a bad game. In 2007, 2008 and 2009 in the nRL he has been going very well indeed.

Dont worry, people in the right places are starting to ask serious questions about his treatment.

Shannon Gallant plays well when everyone else is doing their Job. His two standout games happened to be in games we won with 50+ points on the board. The games against Canterbury this year, he was tested and he failed big time.

He has done a fine job in the last 3 games, but that is mainly due to the go foward of our pack and the exceptional job Marshall and Moltzen have done in the halves. You can't in any right mind write Gallant off just yet, but by that same token you can't sign him up long term either.

How did he fail big time ??

You watched the game, didn't you?

Yeah. It wasn't one of his best games. But in 80 minutes he made one more error than guns like Farah and Galloway. I dont know why people are crucifying him for that game?? Blokes like Halatau and Collis have played like that for 3 years !!.

i reckon gallant has been playing well enough so far with the chance he's been given to deserve a decent contract.

if he's in the future plans of the coach or not is another question.

i feel for the guy because he's playing with some real heart and giving it his all.

this issue with the size of him, what about hodgo? that guy was a pretzel with football boots on.

He had a sub standard game against the Dogs (He was not alone)

His game against the Bunnies at the SCG was woefull. His talk and direction from the back dissapeared as the game went on in a very un Gallant fashion. His kick returns were terrible. He deserved time in State Cup after that game.

However that time in State Cup seems to have helped him make the most of oportunity this time around.

On the subject of Halatau and Collis BB I think you will find very few who have been happy with their form of any recent memory

Gallant was awful in that dogs game…...couldnt do a thing right, not much better in the souths game.

I must admit I was starting to wonder if he was up to it.......re McDonnell.

But his last three he has been top shelf and looks the goods,as does Moltzen at 7.

Agreed and I'd say there were some nerves in those games anyway, brilliant to see he's making the transition to 1sts

If he keeps going in the same direction one would think he would be first choice FB for the future, but there is still a lot of time left this year for him to succeed/fail.

the thing is we could sign him for as little as 70k a year. Seems he will only get 56k to start with the Police after 7 months training and a HECS bill.

Nice little article on Gallant in this week's Big League magazine. The Wests Magpies coach wants Shannon in FG from now on and doesn't want to see him dropped back to State Cup. It sounds optimistic as far as Gallant being offered a WT contract for next season, although we're still no closer to hearing anything official just yet.

Thanks willow. Gives me a reason to buy that magazine this month now!

I'm going to watch the Souths game at the SCG again. I can't see how people thought his game was any different to it has been the last few weeks - other than actually receiving the ball whilst backing up, been out into try scoring positions and scoring a couple of great tries I cannot see how his game would of been any different. His game will also be at a higher level when the team is on song as he is an attacking fullback - if the team is off he won't be as prominant and it seems he will cop the flack from some people.

there was nothing wrong with his game at the scg.it wasn't great but it certainly wasn't a game to be put back at state cup.
if that game was woeful then every player in the comp would spend time in state cup.
looks like the bar has been set very high for gallant, which is because his play in first grade has been high.
only the bulldogs game would i class a bad game in his 10 first grade games.
i wish everyone else on our squad had that strike rate.

_Just a few weeks ago, the Wests Tigers Shannon Gallant was playing mid morning football in the NSW cup. Now he’s playing on the big stage – and his dream’s still alive._ By. **Ben Horne.**
>
Most Wests Tigers fans were still enjoying their Sunday sleep-ins when ‘Mighty Mouse’ was out attempting to prove he is a first grade player. At Campbelltown Stadium in Round 7 this Year, the main game kicked off at 3pm but Shannon Gallant and his Western Suburbs Magpies were up for their NSW cup fixture at 10.45 in the morning.
>
A moment of sheer brilliance was missed by most that day but at least Tigers coach Tim Sheens was there to see it. With minutes left in the clash, the Central Coast Storm broke through the Magpies defensive line. Gallant, at fullback, was faced with two Storm players. The man in possession drew him and passed to a flyer in support, he streaked away for what looked like the match winner.....but Mighty Mouse – the man with the games most appropriate nickname – wasn’t done with.
>
He chased hard and pulled off one of the most sensational try saving tackles ever seen. Under the mouth of the goal-posts he showed incredible speed to rein in the Storm player as he was diving over the line, turning him on his back to hold him up. It won his team the match. “That was unbelievable that” recalls Coach Leo Epifania. “If that was in NRL level that would be a highlight for years to come.”
>
After making his first grade in 2007, it seems Gallant finally has a chance to start adding some NRL moments to that highlights package.
Passion, loyalty and hard work has got him where he is, he’s desperate to make a few more try saving tackles to prove himself a top class No. 1\. “My premier League coach Leo was a fullback in his day and he drills into me that I have to get the confidence of my players in the front line” Gallant says. “You’ve got to be doing your try-saving tackles so when a player does break the line the boys don’t put their heads down and go ‘oh no, it’s Gallant tackling.’ They actually turn around and say, ’we’re right here, because it’s Gallant’. “I look for respect. That’s what I play for. I just love the challenge of it.”
>
You can’t help but admire the way Gallant plays above his weight. A fortnight ago against the Cowboys’ he arced up to champion boxer , Carl Webb, and didn’t take a backward step. “Sometimes my passion gets me into trouble. That Carl Webb situation could have got me killed . I Can’t fight, I just pretend I can.” Gallant jokes “Sometimes it can be my enemy but it’s got me a long way with people who said I was to small. I look back and say, ‘have a look now, I’m doing what you said I couldn’t’ “I’ve done the hard yards and eventually I got there...now it’s just a case of trying to stay there..”
>
Plenty have told him he couldn’t, but Gallant battled away in Reserve Grade, he never gave up. “A lot of people say he’s small, but I don’t see him that way because he doesn’t play that way” praises Epifania. “He’s got plenty of ticker in him, he doesn’t run any softer than a bigger bloke. If a little bloke runs soft he’ll get dragged back 20 metres every tackle, but Shannon takes care of that part himself, putting his body on the line and playing with heart.”
A couple of weeks ago , Gallant came to the realisation that this was his last chance. He says he’ll play park footy, regardless, until he’s 50, but concedes the NRL ambition could be gone if he doesn’t rise to the challenge.
>
However, true to form he has met that challenge and the Wests Tigers have told him there will be something for him next year. Epifania says a return won’t be welcomed. “I told him there’s no room for him with us! I basically said, don’t come back....I’d like to see him stay there this time. “We’ve gone through some tough times over the past few years, that’s whyI feel close to him. He’s had his back up against the wall and he’s go through it. It’s got to be now or never doesn’t it?”

Willow.... you remember that tackle on the Storm second rower....It's still the tackle of the year to date......Horne does it justice but it was about 12 to go then..... 'The Mouse' set up the match winning try....that won the prize...

Hey...... Bug at least Sheens was there to see for himself rather than rely on the opinions of others this time....

Wests Tigers have told him there will be something for him next year.

Show the Mouse the money then !

Good article! I think the article and comments from those in it reflect what bug was saying regarding people standing in Gallants way…

He'll be our fullback for years to come no doubt in my mind!

Can't forget that tackle mate. Still can't quite comprehend how he stopped it though. The guy was twice his size and over the line for a try for all intents and purposes. Didn't phase Gallant in the slightest though.

MATE i too witnessed that tackle , and to his credit when he is playing first grade is at the magpies games to support his mates..
