**EXCLUSIVE: Wests Tigers great Robbie Farah hoses down fears of Michael Maguire -Tim Sheens partnership not working out**
https://wwos.nine.com.au/nrl/2022-wests-tigers-tim-sheens-appointment-michael-maguire-robbie-farah-exclusive/ca98a6e8-ea21-4ee4-ac5b-5e921d4c8cc8

Wests Tigers great Robbie Farah has shot down fears of coach Michael Maguire feeling at unease over greater responsibility being handed to Tim Sheens at the embattled club.

The man who led a youthful Tigers outfit to the 2005 NRL premiership returned to the club in June as head of football performance, before taking on the role of director of coaching in September amid the club's tumultuous internal review.

The appointment led Michael Chammas of The Sydney Morning Herald to ask rugby league guru Phil Gould how Maguire would feel about it.

"How do you take it as coach... if they are bringing in someone over the top of you, Gus?" Chammas said on Nine's 100% Footy in September.

"How would Michael Maguire... take Tim Sheens' appointment?"

The two-man partnership between Sheens and Maguire, the man who steered the Rabbitohs to the 2014 NRL title, is a hot talking point heading into the 2022 season.

But as the Tigers filter back to the club for pre-season training, intent on ending a 10-year finals exile, Farah has hosed down talk of Maguire being uncomfortable with Sheens' appointment in an interview with Wide World of Sports.

"I don't think that's the case at all, to be honest," said Farah, who's now a Tigers trainer.
"When you can bring in someone of Sheensy's quality you would be mad not to.

"He can oversee the whole football program. He's not only there to oversee what's happening with the NRL squad; it's about laying the foundations in our junior pathways, our grassroots, making sure we're a strong club from the bottom up.

"That's what it's about, that's what brings us sustained success. It's not about making the semi-finals for one season and then dropping out the year after; it's about making sure that we're a competitive club year on end.

"That's because you lay the foundations and that starts from the bottom up and that's what Sheensy's role is.
"I think it's a great appointment, I know Madge thinks it's a great appointment.

"They've been great," Farah said.
"I know Madge is really keen to work with Tim.

Paws must be beside himself with this news?

I can't wait for Maguire to get his instructions from Sheens. I hope it is words to the effect

"Michael, that crap you've been serving up for three years, five hit ups and a bomb is never to be played again at WTs. We have the players, we play football, throw it around. Oh, Michael, have Nathan implement a cohesive and effective defensive plan".

You know deep down, that is not what is going to happen, but keep dreaming.?

It is though. Sheens runs everything now. He tells Madge to jump and Madge will ask how high.

Keep believing, you know it’s a dream.

TW we could go back and forth on this all day. Just look at the org chart. Madge below Sheens.

Yes he is, but so, Pascoe is above Sheens, that doesn’t mean he will manage the footy? It’s why he got Sheens in the first place, do you really believe he will take over coaching the team? There is a lot of other things to get organised (like getting some players) to do, before he needs to worry about the coach.

Don't you think Sheens has a brand of football he would like all teams at WTs, Wests and Balmain reps to play? I believe this is where Sheens can add value. He tells your demi-god that he is to implement this Brand in the NRL team. The other coaches of KOE, U20s, SG Ball and HM would receive the same instructions.

Yeah but Sheens is head of the football department. The buck stops with him and if he disagrees with Madge then Sheens gets his way. On your last point, on field is the first thing that needs attention, so I’m thinking his role will be very hands on. 3 years of Madgeball is enough, change that and we can move forward. If however he decides to be hands off, Madge will be gone by mid year. He’s not good enough.

So play that scenario out?

Sheens says he wants this or that.

A. Madge says that’s not the way to go, so Sheens punts Madge (it won’t happen) but what decent coach would want to come anywhere near us?

B. If they go with all Sheens ideas, then Madge is no longer culpable for the team performances, again (it won’t happen.)

Not saying they won’t have discussions, and I’m sure Madge will ask for ideas, TBH, I think the game has past Sheens for modern ideas, but it’s Madge’s team.

I think the term “Demi-god” coming from you is pretty funny, you are batting zero on all your ideas to date, I think he may get a few things into shape and hopefully get some decent players, but who knows, it’s still a long way to go, before calling him our saviour.

BTW, how many players have we signed, with him in charge?

I don’t think the excuse he wasn’t in the country can be used, as he has made plenty of statements already?

He’s made one statement.

Who knows what is going to happen- personally I’m hoping that between Sheens, Madge and the 2 new assistant coaches, we have a team that can work together and get the best out of our squad. I don’t think that is too much to expect.

I am sure Tim has already put a black line through all of our props and is avidly looking for 90 kilo 2nd rowers to replace them.

Don’t really know a lot about Sheens, but he doesn’t strike me as that sort of character. He’s smarter than that surely?

Anyone who thinks that will work between two men that both command a level of respect clearly are letting their distaste for Maguire rule their heads. If Sheens thought Maguire was the problem he would be gone based on that train of thought.

Oh it’s changing. Hartigan gone, new assistants. Good decision around keeping Madge, not hiring Flanagan. Looks like Brooks might be gone too.

I’ll pray for you.

Anyone got any photos of Sheens at the airport? He’s been 7 days away from arriving for the last 3 months so I won’t believe it until I see it.

Do you people ever take a minute to read the drivel you write on this forum? Give it a rest with the bagging or go elsewhere. PLEASE.

You're not amused by the literal 250th rendition of "Sheens plays prop at fullback, Guffaw."?

Hahaha, too funny. But true, we’re in a state of emergency and discipline is not the enemy of enthusiasm.

The Tigers have addressed all the problems I heard at the club for a long time now. Brooks remains the other issue he won’t carry out a game plan. Sheens may believe he can get through but if release him on compassionate grounds to Newcastle if that’s what he wants.

Watch how quick things turn within Brooks and Mbye. We won’t make the finals but loafers on big money is our problem.

If he is displaying dumb obedience characteristics then there are 2 possible reasons. He is being micro managed or is influenced by negative voices outside the club?
I don’t want him to go, but if he can’t turn around his attitude then he has to go. What a shame, a very skilful footballer, probably our best?

Brooks is not a loafer. He is one of the players that will do the hard work. Our game plan appears to be an issue.
