The club is broke and using about $1m from its cap to run the football operations… That's why we are shedding players and signing nobody ... The football operations side of the club ain't generating enough income to sustain itself and is using CAP money to stay afloat... 100%

I'd love to.see some.facts to back this claim up

I thought that the WESTS group were injecting money as part of their input to the JV,I could be wrong, but that's what I was told….

If this is the case it is ridiculous, the NRL head office is expanding by media reports so they obviously have no problem feathering their own nest, well what about passing on some of the cash to the clubs eg Wests Tigers so they don't need salary cap money to pay for staff, the money should go to players, no wonder we are behind the eight ball.

That's what all the clubs have been kicking up a stink about… The NRL bragging about how much money they are making while the clubs see very little.

They have a valid case.

I'd guess only the poorly run clubs are looking for hand outs.

NRL Franchises are a business. If they cant fund themselves, maybe they should hand back their licenses?

There is always the NSW Cup or RMC for those clubs that cant keep up!

Iam sure what you have posted has some substance, it is the only reasonable explanation why a team coming last would be so invisible in the market place. It is obvious to everyone that we are well below our cap so the money must be going somewhere.

The hole is only going to get bigger and bigger if the football team continue to struggle for another year

@marinasgo Tigers fan here, think the club is on the way up so Thanks.1 Q - Are we this yr and will we next yr be spending the whole cap?

Marina Go ‏@marinasgo 11h11 hours ago
@Booners05 yes I can assure you that we are spending the whole cap but we have inherited a mess re cap management historically.

So according to Marina we are spending the whole cap this year and next despite what some have claimed on here around being under the cap

I don't know. It makes sense that we are spending it all as the NRL gives us the money. What doesn't make sense is where that money is going. We must be paying overs for certain players.

What worries me is that I heard Mayer say that Robbie and Woods were our marquee players which I assume means that they are the highest paid players. If this is true I'm concerned that these guys are overpaid.

Why? They are marquee players they deserve to get paid

I agree, Woods is arguably the best Australian prop, and with Bromwich the best prop in NRL.
Farah is the best #9 in NSW, and with Smith and Luke the best # 9 in NRL.

I would add Tedesco to our 'marquees', he is already in the group of 3-4 best Australian FB's.

Unfortunately, we pay another 'marquee' salary for the last 4 years, but Lawrence only shows some good signs in his last 3-4 games in his last year of the contract :frowning:

Its not that simple. If we have overpaid for them and they take up such a huge chunk of our salary cap and we are still coming last its an issue.

Watto it's Canterbury and Easts leading the charge.

Probably the two clubs least in need of additional cash.

Well, they are just greedy then.

The NRL gives them $7m a year… The rest is up to them to generate.

I dont know what Easts generate, but Canterbury generated $32m last year in income.

If they cant turn a profit, someone is cooking the books!

Watto plenty of scope there for some creative money-management to open up TPAs. That's where we are at such a disadvantage.

The money that they were contracted was for the total contract, they may have been paid a larger chunk of that in the early years, or they may have been paid that bigger amount near the end. . They were signed for that total amount.
Had we not paid that amount we probably wouldn't have got them at all,
The squealing would have heard in Brisbane if we'd lost them.
