Some discussion on the merits and popularity of different types of footy above, yet your post is the only reason I know that the NFL finale is currently being played.

Exactly right. Every American who sees it seems to be blown away at the physicality and lack of padding (Gronkowski, McAfee....).
Rogan has such a massive audience you'd have at least millions of people become aware of nrl.

If you take these two factors out, and Rugby League buries soccer where it lays because as you pointed out, ther is far more spectacle and entertainment within it.

Agree with most of your points mate I prefer NRL but if you played a lot of the game like I did you have a soft spot for it, there is a lot of skill in running full pace and the ability to pass the ball on a dime for a teammate as well as the skill in the air with headers, if they could do something with the offside rule say take it past halfway to a 3/4 line you would see a lot more goals that would open the game up.

Visit a live game of soccer in Europe or South America. The buy in and tribalism from fans adds a dimension to the game Rugby League can only dream of. The additions of relegations and promotions also adds interest no matter the level of teams.

The game itself, when played well, is a thing of beauty. Much, much more skillful than league.

They certainly need to do something to allow more scoring.

For talented kids or youth to play elite competition soccer the cost is over $3000 per season plus addition costs for additional academy training which is generally required to allow each child/youth to continue developing at the required rate and give them a chance of becoming a paid player down the track.
So you are realistically looking at $5000 plus as a starting point to give talented young soccer players a realistic chance of making it to become a professional or semi professional player in their adult years.
So when you compare that, Rugby League is truly the peoples and working class sport where the most talented players are not priced out of the market and hence why the numbers are massive in the middle to lower class economic of the West and South West of Sydney.
