Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

For anyone watching Parramatta this year. I’d advise them to pay close attention to Hopgood.

From playing 80 mins at lock last year under Brad Arthar and looking like securing an origin jersey, he has now dropped to 40 mins with stints at dummy half and his form looks way off.

Maybe Ryles doesn’t rate him that highly.

Can’t see how…. I’d do a Galvin for Hopgood trade tomorrow.

He’s exactly what we need.
no way we need better than Hopgood, we need another 7 we can't risk running with latu fainu

Why would you strengthen parramatta . No way. Let them wait for him till 2027 so they can have another year of disaster next season. I don’t get the calls to let him go early . Fxxx parra
I think what us fans need to come to terms with is that Galvin’s gone and most likely to Parramatta.

As much as it hurts to say, he 100% will not be at the club beyond next year. It’s inevitable. The fact they didn’t even want to review the offer gives you an insight on how strong Galvin’s stance is.

So if we can somehow gain some sort of benefit from Galvin leaving, and with that comes in the form of a QLD rep, 80 min workhorse lock like Hopgood who can ball play, offload and hits like a truck then I’d be pushing for this massively.

Better to get the trade done and start building a “team” that we wanna build this club around, which could involve:

1. Bula
6. Latu
7. Luai
9. Api/TDS
13. Hopgood

Maybe Ryles is not that great a coach. 🤣

Hopgood is another Hetherington and Twal performs the 13 role well no doubt at a modest cost. We need to trust our own recruitment team and aim much higher and weaken the Eels at the same time.

It would be nice but I cannot see the Eels swapping one of their best for Galvin. They required Utoikamanu to fulfill his contract and we should require the same of Galvin. I have confidence Richardson and Marshall can recruit the players we want.
When Latu is back and provided he remain healthy then Galvin can get 10minutes of first grade like Stefano did when they refused to release him early.

I don't see Hopgood getting battered like I see Hetherington, most games.
He's always getting shotted.

I see no value in releasing Galvin. The market is thin for quality and we have a good deal and money in our cap to spare. If Parra are desperate after Nov 1 then we might have reason to listen but it would need to be good. The players are the ones refusing the trade window clubs need to make a stand and this is a deal that suits us.

Hmmm I think Hopgood improves our pack considerably tbh. I’d trade him for Galvin ASAP tbh. Just think the Galvin situation has the potential to really turn sour, better to get him out now and get whatever benefit we can. Maybe I’m wrong, just how it’s played out previously though.

8. May
9. Api
10. Pole
11. Fainu
12. KPP
13. Hopgood

14. TDS
15. Sione Fainu
16. Twal
17. Bird

18. Hunt
19. Seyfarth

Starts looking very very good imo. Torn if Hunt stays for impact over Twal or vice versa. Went with Twal as I think Sione is developing into that impact player pretty well.

That’s what I’ve been thinking too. Hopgood is the only player Parra has that I would trade for in a position we need.

I'm pretty sure Taylan May would be one of the signings Richo mentioned will be announced.

Just for the fact if he's confident enough to call it that early before an announcement, it's as good as done. Which sounds the case with Taylan - he's just going through a process to make sure he's NRL ready, mentally.

Very curious about the others.

That would be an exceptional get.

Halves depth is pretty fragile once Galvin leaves.

Latu has been a bit injury prone, so we need a quality solution until he can get through full games consistently without injury. Reynolds or DCE would be my pick, but culturally, I think Reyno is a better fit...DCE a bit too golden boy slimy for me.

Second...another prop. We lean on May a lot...if he gets injured, suspended or picked for Origin, it's a big gap to fill.

Of course, backrow is an issue also...need 2 quality backrowers.

Johannssen leaving obviously means we have cleared more space.

By my calculations, we saved around 300k from Olam (6 months already paid), Klemmer 300k, Bateman? Did we pay him out already? Maybe 200k, Sullivan 200k.

So we have maybe a million to spend for the remainder of the contract year...thats more like 2 million in annual contract terms.

It says to me we will hit 1 or 2 known names before June 30...the rest will be depth.
