Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

Well i think we should focus on core issues as ive mentioned.

I dont think Benji will be subject to any close scrutiny. That could be an issue atm.

How long do we give him?

I think we are in some trouble.

We move at glacial pace usually.
If the place is professionaly run the entire football department will get the once over - from physio supprt to head coach. It should also be done in a manner where everyone can speak their mind. Of course it needs to be done respectfully; but if done properly it is an excellent process.

I have been involved in some very productive and well run reviews and at the other end of the scale some poorly run ones - where people were afraid to speak as they were worried about their career. So it all depends on the environment that has been established in the place.

With Richo and Benji I get the feel that they would be open to ideas and justified criticism (well at least they speak that way). Given how small the organisation is change should be able to happen almost immediately if it is within the football department unless it is about hiring additional staff etc.

Until we start winning consistently like 4 or 5 wins in a row, not just every few weeks, then signing better players is more difficult. Hell even our juniors want out.

Our previous management put under developed juniors on top 30 contracts! How dumb is that?

ATM we are still that club that if you sign with us you are kissing representative honours goodbye.
Sign kiwi players and poms. They don’t care about SOO. And now, neither do I. Hope NSW gets pumped, Moses has a shocker and if Stef gets a run goes completely missing as per usual club land performances. Daley was a champion player but can’t coach or select the best squad for sh1t

Is that Benji or players?

I was thinking in our case we can have;

Players deliberately not following Benji.
Players unable to, no skills, physical shortcomings, fear or whatever

Plus

benjis plan is effed anyway.

And we all know, someone innocent is going to be the scapegoat.
I have no idea who’s fault it is, but surely someone with Luai’s experience knows the plays we are currently coming with on the 5th tackle in attacking positions are absolute trash and he’s wearing the 7, he wanted to own the team, so he needs to fix it and fix it fast.
While on the topic of our 1.2 million dollar man, does he also realise a good number 7 runs the ball at least a few times per game ?
Nathan Clearly has never been content on passing the ball all game and not threatening to run the ball himself.

I can't put my finger on it but there is something not right within the playing group. Not sure if it is the grind taking effect or a split in the group themselves. Line speed has dropped off, the scramble has dropped off and the coordination is lacking.

Surely nobody thinks that we train to have Bird, or any other numptie, at first receiver on the fifth. So how or why is the assignment being missed? Does Galvin have the primary kicking role but is struggling to execute it under pressure at NRL level?

We have players and coaching staff that understand what is required - and seriously it isn't that hard to show on a whiteboard or out on the training paddock. There is also no doubt in my mind that Benji and Co are capable of developing a simple game plan to focus our strenghts against a perceived oppostion weakness. So what is happening between the Captain's run and game time?

My gut feel is that we play much straighter in attack on the training paddock and our lateral running is resulting in players being out of postion, or assignments being missed. There is clearly an execution issue - it would be great to get to training and spend time watching how the Captain's run goes down and compare it to what is being executed so we can figure out where the issue lies.

Anyone in a postion to spy for the forum?

Yes, before his bad shoulder injury, Nate would run and contest absolutely everything. Youd see him dive on balls on the ground all the time and put himself in mortal danger.

i agree JL should be more much involved, but i get the impression he is expecting a lot more from his comrades.

But again, until we work out the coaching communication, player desire and ability quotient, we are wasting our time.

Id keep the review tight and focused on the key stakeholders.

And solutions of good intent. That could be tough for some though.

My guess in the dropping off in “effort and standards” is that quite a few players in the 30 man squad and others have been told they won’t be here next year so they are in caretaker mode and those in first grade know there is no pressure on them because of it so they are in second gear.

Could be right. It's happened the same time the past few years. Last year when media started reporting Richo was in the UK shopping players, our form dipped. Before that when Joffa was released immediately, it dipped. All around this May period.

Hey Jolls
I have owned a couple of race horses that ran great splits (200m)
on the training track
But
on race day showed zilch.

I’d be very surprised if the Bulldogs were even interested in having Galvin join them this season as they would be concerned his potential inclusion could disrupt the team harmony they currently have.
If the Bulldogs are his landing spot it would potentially be from 2026 onwards and even then it would leave a sour taste in the mouths of the likes of Bailey Hayward and Mitchell Woods who I would presume have their eyes on starting NRL halves positions very soon.
