Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

I dunno Jolls, I think the defence is still okay when Skelton and T'oa are in the side. It's the attack that's the issue. We have such little possession and do very little with it when we do have it, the energy just goes. A few repeat sets would make an enormous difference. We're playing tired all the time.
Maybe, but the issues in attack are pretty easy to see and fix. Galvin is trying to leant in FG and it isn't working. He has gone from passing too early to digging too far into the line and passing to players already in heavy traffic. He will eventually get there but the place to practice is in reggies. Soem goes for his penchant for running sideways - it cramps that attack - at least when Toa was gettign early ball he could make something of it.

Our centres and ingers, for the most part, aren't our defensive issue. It is our middle that has gone to sleep over the last three weeks, the pressure and chase have dropped right off and the result is staring us in the face.

You have hit the nail on the head in relation to having long periods without posession - which in this day and age really sucks the juice out of teams. If lack of energy is the outcome of having to do too much defence in succession then we need to identify the cause - this comes down to our own errors and poor kicking game. These can also be addressed; however, I keep coming back to the same point - if we could do it for the most part over eight weeks why have the wheels fallen off in the last three? Resolve that and I think we turn it around.

Brent Rwad on Triple M just stated Api’s manager is wanting confirmation if we are re-signing him past 2026 and says he believes we will offer him an extra 2-3 years and says that will likely mean we lose Da Silva, possibly an early release at the end of this year.
Api will be 33 while in the final year of his current contract in 2026, so if we extend him it means we are re-signing him as a 34-36 year old
Ready also thinks we will release Galvin before June 30 this season and does not think we will receive another player in return.
He also mentioned Adam Reynolds clearly wants to remain in Brisbane, that along with his recent dip in form meaning there is not much interest in him from Wests Tigers.
All this being said and done, do we think re-signing Api and losing Da Silva is the right decision? I know Api was great for us again last Sunday, but it’s not his attack that is the problem, he is a target for opposing teams defensively due to his lack of size and that will not get any easier as he gets older. As much as Api has been great for us, I would be prioritising Da Silva and letting an ageing Api sign with the Perth Bears.
We need to keep both. Slowly transition TDS into having more minutes than Api.

Speculation, Brent.
Highly likely Perth Bears would like Api for when they enter in 2027.
One thing for certain he would not be an 80min per game hooker for them like he is for us.
Ivan Cleary didn’t think he was up to defending in the middle strongly for 80mins 3 years ago, but for some reason Benji does ?

Hasn’t Brent read just become a flog of a jurno!

Api put the team on his back and no one could go with him on the weekend. I would give him 2 more years. He needs to be more selfish in attack. I love him. Have a look at TDS defence, not up to NRL standards yet. If he wants to leave let him. Are all our juniors as good as they say?

Sign a fringe NRL hooker as back up someone like a Danny Levi etc until Heywood is ready!

It's guaranteed that Ready wouldn't have a clue what's happening at WT. Perhaps only what an agent says.... And of course Api's agent wants to know what the plans for him are. But at his age there's zero chance he gets a 3 year deal. A 2 year deal on less money with the agreement that he transitions towards a bench role as Talyn progresses
I thought Ready was the rugby league journalist closest to Richo ?

TDS is home grown talent that we are actually in the process of developing. One of the very few success stories from our pathways. We can’t let him go.
Api was brilliant the other night but that speed will only lessen. His defence will only worsen. If we get another year and a half out of him at that level, I’ll be happy.
We know Richardson and Marshall control recruitment and retention. No information is getting out unless they want it out. No news is good news.

API has been great for us and showed he still goes good last week , I would do a 2 year deal with him and let him know TDS minutes will increase as we go rest of this year and next to the point TDS starts and API will come on off the bench mid next year , API to be the 14 going forward which cover. 6/7/9 .

Get rid of Galvin, team cohesion restored. Problem solved.
Didn't work too well againt Parra. It could be the issue though as his game has certainly gone off the rails. However, I think his attack has gone off the rails for the right reasons but in the wrong place.

He was guilty of passing too early and I expect that he has been instructed to dig into the line further to engage the defence. But at 19 he hasn't quite figured that out yet - he is now passing too late and as he tries to engage the line he also gets more sideways. He needs to develop this skill in ressies - not on the paddock in FG. He needs to be dropped for his development as his performance at NRL level has dropped right off.

On the defensive side he has been identified as a weak link and it looks like he and AD have been working on the issue. While AD's arm grabbing has improved a little, he gets away with his "style" because he is a much bigger body. Once he learns that his shoulders are handy in defence he will get better - but again the place to learn this is in Reggies not in FG.

Offering a kid with such glaring deficiencies a Mill is madness. I get that you are taking a punt on his supreme fitness making him eleite down the track - but for me it is a pretty big punt at this stage. I would prefer another club takes that risk and we focus on putting some NRL ready players on the paddock until we develop a consistent NRL capable side.

Danny Levi wouldn’t be a bad signing for us as a fringe player at the right price.
He is a tough tackling back up hooker who generally defends strongly in the middle and capable of occasionally doing some good things in attack also.

Wests Tigers keen to extend Koroisau deal, make moves to resolve Galvin saga

NRL: Apisai Koroisau has left Latrell Mitchell in the dust with a great step to score the Tigers first try in their match against the Rabbitohs.
The Wests Tigers are poised to kick off contract talks with Api Koroisau next week as they look to keep their captain out of the clutches of expansion teams and provide some stability amid speculation over the future of Lachlan Galvin.
Koroisau is off contract at the end of next season, making him a prime target for Perth as they prepare to enter the premiership in 2027. The Tigers are determined to keep them at bay given Koroisau’s outstanding form and leadership qualities.

It is understood Koroisau’s manager reached out to the club in a bid to get some clarity over their plans for the former NSW hooker, prompting the Tigers to lock in talks next week.

Plans to speak to Koroisau and his agent come as the club remains tight-lipped over the outcome of a board meeting this week where the future of Galvin was discussed.

Galvin is off contact at the end of next season but has already told the club he won’t be extending his deal.

It is understood the board gave chief executive Shane Richardson the green light to continue talks with Galvin’s agent over a resolution to the saga, which is expected to culminate in the teenager leaving the Tigers before the end of his contract.

There have been whispers he could leave before June 30, although that will likely depend on whether the Tigers are able to extract a transfer fee for Galvin from interested clubs.

Parramatta and the Bulldogs are expected to lead the chase for Galvin.

API would be a player I would want in a role in our Pathways system.
I agree he is the type of person we ideally want involved with our club after his playing days, which is another reason we ideally need to keep him until he retires, but how much can we realistically afford to pay him as a 34-36 year old and would he be happy being our number 14 when it’s highly likely Perth Bears will be able to offer him more money than us due to their salary cap concessions and he’d likely be their starting number 9 albeit not playing the full 80mins each game.
We will be in a very tough position with this decision and as much as we would love to keep him, I could not justify paying anymore than 500k maximum for an ageing, small 34-36 year old hooker to mainly be our number 14.

Did he pull back on his TDS to leave comment?

These journo articles are such waste men statements. Speculation & opinion.

Even Chamas said he throws darts and leads people to believe his info is direct from Moses when it isn't, to "protect his sources".

I listened to Ready live on Triple M this morning, he stated he believes re-signing Korisau past 2026 would mean we lose Da Silva and thinks it could be as early as next year.
As Da Silva is currently contracted with us until the end of 2026, he is obviously assuming a possibly early release for him also.
We lose either way, but I think it’s in our best interests not to lose another promising local junior from the Campbelltown region, therefore if Da Silva is prepared to commit to us long term on a fair and reasonable contract deal with the promise of him become our starting number 9 from 2027 onwards form permitting, I think he should be our priority in that scenario.

What good is a fee from a club we can’t use it in the cap , if we do release him we got to get a player
