Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

Tell whoever you get your info from to tell the club to go hard for Hassett for lock.
What’s the fascination with Hassett ?
If you take a look at his stats when playing NSW Cup, he rarely makes more than 60-70m, rarely breaks a tackle and his post contact metres are very minimal.
If we are signing him on a base contract as depth cover than sure he’d be ok, but if we are looking at someone who can make a positive difference to our NRL team, he won’t help much at this stage.

If we for some reason don’t land Taylan May, do we think Jojo Fifita could be a good option as a potential recover 2026 ?
I think he’s a better all round player than To’a and has the ability to become elite as he approaches the prime of his career, not sure what value of contract it would take to land a player like him ?
Looks like Titans about to extend Jojo Fifita for another 3 years.

A lot of average players get talked up in this thread as stars. I mean, Tyrone May FFS.

I don’t blame them, he’s a very good emerging centre with plenty of improvement to come.
I don’t think we are a genuine top 8 roster, even with the inclusion of KPP and Taylan May.
They will help, but we need at least one more top quality signing to make us genuinely top 8 competitive.

+ improvements amongst the depth

+ improvements amongst the depth
Yes we have to continuously improve our depth, but I still maintain we are at least one top quality player short of being genuine top 8 contenders.
If Latu steps into our halves and plays with the same quality he has been displaying when coming on as our 13, that will certainly help, but I’m far from convinced a Luai/Fainu/Bula combination has the right balance between playmaking, kicking game, deception and line break ability etc
All very good players in their own right, but is it the right balance ?

One thing I hated yesterday was Dougie taking hitups on the 3rd-4th tackle. When he does he is slow at reaching the line and the play the bal is so slow.

We need speed at the centres. Look at Dolphins how there two gets on the outside constantly. We need Taylan May desperately. Solved one issue.
Often players love to get the PCM stats up. Big deal! A momentum killer for a few metres.
Usually means a slow PTB after the ref says "held". The defence has reset and got a second wind.
IMO a Quick Play the Ball without the BS struggle with 3 players trying to steal the ball is much more effective.

I've mentioned Tyrone May a few times and believe he can play a role as a backup half or potentially transform into a ball-playing lock like young Hayward at the Bulldogs. Not talking him up as a star but a role player with experience who could rise to another level playing with his brothers.

I don't disagree with you.

But for context, players like Tyrone May are not suggested as top line difference makers. More the guys that round out a squad, offering depth in areas it is required.

Realistically there's probably only room for 1-2 'top line' guys to be added.

After that it is incremental upgrades, either pushing guys that shouldn't be starting to bench roles, guys off the bench into KOE or even just beefing up KOE.

Teams that win premierships don't have 13 1st grade players & a reserve squad of numpties. While the Tigers have lacked absolute top quality players to their detriment, they have also lacked any version of 1st grade ready depth in the KOE to push out of form players, or fill in for injured players.

they have appropriate depth in the halves at the moment noting that Bud remains contracted on the Top 30 another two years … there is still a possibility AD will be extended a further year and can also fill in of required

Why though. Would he be on your radar if he had a different last name? If you want a back up half or lock, there are plenty of those looking for a chance that already have top 30 spots in the NRL.
