Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

Honestly, the only three forwards I'd keep from our current pack are Samuela, Api, and May. Pole has potential and if we got a couple of real aggressive forwards you could sneak a twal or seyfarth of the bench. This doesn't include kpp and does include our bench

Would love to Sam and Sione with a extra 5kg each on their frames next season both look under weight.
Sione is perfect. He has shed kilos over the last few years to be at his current playing weight and has been in great form this season as a result.

Sam will fill out over time. His frame will take a bit of time to hold mass I think. He'll be one that will come back one of these off seasons and be the size of Haumole.

sione came to us a fat mess (no offence to him) he’s improved out of sight this year

Yeah cap is important for the people at the club who know exactly what everyone is getting paid.

But for the punters it's all speculative. Madden may be on $400K, $250K, $600K, $499K plus a free donkey... you can't do any calculations with guesses.
Also, just a minor thing, but they aren’t always on round numbers either. Usually it’s 467 or 533 etc.

He won our player of the year last year - playing on the edge…

We know what he is capable of at the position
How stiff was the competition in the team that ran last? He's no Hudson Young. He wouldn't even get a run off the bench at Canberra..

Whilst we do know what he is capable of in the backrow.. Do we know what he is capable in the middle? Could he be better?

The concern with Samuela Fainu if he is to remain as an edge back rower, does he have enough speed and footwork to be effective long term and be a player who can worry the best defensive teams when playing on an edge ?
He’s not slow, but I’m not sure he’s as quick as all the edge back rowers who play SOO for an example and they are the benchmark.
I liken him to Shawn Blore and to be honest I think he is a better edge back rower than Shawn Blore, so if you look at it from that angle he will get the job done if we have the right players around him.
As I’ve now stated many times I think the solution is to have another good quality edge back rower with speed and agility to put pressure on both Sanuela and KPP.
I keep mentioning Simi Sasagi, I’ve heard a few others mention Billy Burns and Connelly Lemuelu could be another option.
These types of players are very handy to add a bit of speed and strike as a number 15 if they are not starting and quick enough to also play in the centres if injuries happen throughout a game.

he’s 21. comparing him to SOO back rowers isn’t even fair

I don't think Sukkar is quick/mobile enough, so will never improve very much as a 2RF. Hard to get faster?
Maybe if he beefs-up could replace Twal as a prop?
100% Sukkar should be moved to the middle. He is strong in contact, is very consistent, decent at the wrestle, is a far stronger carry than people give him credit for, and is still very young.

I think he can go the Sam McIntyre mould, develop into a strong, consistent, reliable middle by his mid 20s and offer value in the squad, much like Sam has at the Cowboys.

But he'll need to do 2/3 seasons of it in Cup first. He's also bigger than his stats suggest, so I'd say at some point this year he's grown, which is not surprising considering he turned 21 in May.
