Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

LOMAX-MADGE DINNER

Coach Michael Maguire has been spotted having dinner with Dragons centre Zac Lomax, leading to speculation he is heading to the Wests Tigers.

The pair met at the Princes Hotel in Sylvania on Thursday night. Maguire told us he has no room in the salary cap for 2020 but refused to rule out making Lomax an offer for the following year when he is off contract at the Dragons.

@formerguest DWZ was blasted as not good enough for our roster by many here . I on the other hand wanted him desperately, his signing has clearly helped the dogs on field performances.. but the good judges around here wanted nothing to do with him !

Still don't.

They’re 6-3 since he joined and he’s a billion times better than Thompson. He was a huge miss for us.

Yes, but he’s on a big contract and we have no cap room. We obviously tried to free some up but couldn’t. It’s a totally moot point. You might as well say Margot Robbie is better looking than your wife: it may well be true, but you have to manage with the one who’s plausibly available to you.

No one was talking money though.

That would be ideal but it is far more likely to lead to see Mary getting the bullet than Lomax coming here.Lomax is held in very high regard by the people who count at the drags

Sounds too good to be true.
Lomax is a gun.
He is one player that you would throw Reynolds type money at.

Is Madge allowed to talk to a player for 2021 already?

Fake news.

Nothing stopping anyone going out to dinner with anyone else, last time I looked it was still a free country.
China hasn't taken over yet.

I must have missed the part where DWZ volunteered to come and play for the Tigers for nothing.

No you didn’t miss that but what you missed was that the discussion was about DWZ vs Thompson. You’ve turned it into a salary cap discussion but that’s not what it was about.

Ramien back to the Sharks, Unless Flannagan was on a lot, I can't see how this can happen without the Sharks losing more players. Perhaps they just have better cap management?

Sometimes but not always. In this instance it was just about dwz vs thompson. It wasn't about who could afford who. But really who cares, we didn't get dwz so what difference does it make now.

Without considering cap implications all signing talk is meaningless. I don't think anyone was arguing that Thompson is better than DWZ. Cameron Munster is better than Marshall but he's not available and we couldn't afford him even if he was. Those who are glad we didn't sign DWZ are presumably so because they don't think he's worth 800k a year or whatever his salary is meant to be, not because they outright think he's a bad footballer.

The whole thing was about @Russell saying he'd prefer Thomo at fullback and would have played DWZ on the wing had he come (or something along those lines). It's back two pages. We weren't talking about salaries it was about our preferences and differing opinions as to who is the better no. 1.
