I think the WTF podcast recommendation of the ex union front rower at the Warriors is inspired. He’s clearly dynamic and raw , yet still learning the game . And as he’s I think 24 now he has a grown man’s body . A guy like that , basically a more dynamic Hunt , is exactly what we should be looking for .
The issue with front rower is , that the best ones outside of that freak in Brisbane , don’t develop properly until 25 plus , but there’s zero patience to develop these guys . Even Pole some people want him dropped tomorrow , and he’s clearly going to be special if he persists on his current trajectory. He just needs to mature.
A huge positive out of expansion will be impatient football departments will have to be more patient and less ruthless in regards to most players , as there will be a shortage on the market . Meaning more money and time to be spent of actually developing juniors . There’s like honestly half the league who are forever purchasing players from other clubs junior systems all the way through to nrl and inclusive .
People talk about the dogs pathway , but a lot of those players were purchased from other junior systems and brought across , rebadged and now we have to accept things like “Alex Conti is a bulldogs junior “ when he went there at 18. Same for manly and the roosters , and even Souths junior league , once the pride of the nrl , has fallen away .
My point is , I think it would be dumb to get an elite front rower . I think someone like Fletcher Baker who could shore up the bench , and a raw project like Toby Crosby has to be the path moving forward . Your spine needs to take up 33% of your cap , to have any chance of a premiership. What I mean by that is not paying Luke Brooks 1 mil , but rather paying luai 1.2m etc . Genuine million dollar players . Which means you have to be stingy in places like winger , and front row .
People saying chase Tino , with Bula coming off contract and Latu going to the market in 2 years have lost thier marbles … development in guys like Tapau Moors and competition for places hopefully should see these guys pushing through around 23 years old and forcing guys like Seyfarth to lift or lose thier spot .
