Benji was sharp in attack. One of the forwards can take over in defence. I still think Reynolds needs some more game time, he was absolutely spent by the end of his 60 minutes stint last week. Not at all convinced that Reynolds is a dummy half either, his best position is one or two off the ruck where he can spot a gap and go for it. But yes Benji is a stop gap solution which may continue into the finals.

Would that suggest Reynolds is likely to move on? No point signing a back up for our back up.

Not just yet...I think we'll see the back of Taylor before Reynolds.

I know which one I’d rather, but that’s us ay.

If you'd rather have Reynolds on 700-800k a year than almost any other warm body in professional sport you have a lot to learn about salary caps.


I just want to win. We play better and win more with Reynolds in the team, he lifts the players around him. He is worth that money injury free and who’s to say he won’t stay injury free next next season? He’s certainly worth more than Billy Walters! Aim to get rid of Packer & Matulino first if you want to free up cap space. They’re on just about as much and doing absolutely nothing for the team. Perhaps if we can offload them, along with McQueen, Lawrence and Taylor, we may not have to lose Reynolds at all.

1) He hasn't been worth that money for years, possibly ever.
2) He hasn't been injury free for years.
3) He's going to be 32 next year, which means he's almost certainly going to be worse and more injury prone than he has been.
4) Yes, he's probably worth more than Billy Walters. But he's not going to be worth four times as much as Billy Walters, which is roughly the difference in likely salary.
5) Yes, getting rid of Matulino and Packer should be a priority. I'm sure it is a priority. But there is no market for them. Even if we do get rid of them, if we can also get rid of Reynolds's salary we will still be in a better position.
6) We should be trying to get rid of Reynolds because we can use the money we're spending on him on players who will do more than he can. That's it. It's not about whether you rate him or not, rate someone else more or anything else. If we were about to sign Josh Reynolds on 200k a year I might be delighted. On 800k a year he is a catastrophe. Part of the reason we might be signing Billy Walters - about whom I care not at all - is *precisely because we are lumbered with Josh Reynolds's contract* and therefore can't sign anyone better as a hooker/half backup.
7) Try to look at it this way. The choice isn't between Josh Reynolds and Billy Walters. The choice is between Josh Reynolds and Billy Walters AND 600k to spend on two or three other players. That's more than, say, Blake Ferguson, Dale Finucane, Tariq Sims, or Joseph Tapine are making.

They played us one year during Origin with Rory Kostjayson at 5/8. Glad we didn't decide he was the next big thing because he was obviously a hidden gem in the Storm system.

I don't want to sound negative, but there is absolutely zero chance that a QLD kid like Fifita is leaving the Broncos and all the long term benefits.................to join the Wests Tigers.
