I am not as worried as others regarding our inability to sign players. I suspect it’s a timing issue with our pursuit (and reported tentative agreement) with LM, we probably were too late for Lomax, Drinkwater etc. Their negotiations would have started some time ago and we obviously thought we had our target - alas we have missed the boat.

So in the absence of anything better, I would look to front end so see contracts so our war chest next year is massive.

The key to this 'war chest' is making the 8 in 2020. Atm, no one wants to come here because of inability to play finals football. We need to make the 8 as of next year and this is critical for us attracting the right players when all this $$ becomes available.

No offence meant to you in particular Tcat, but I'm sick of hearing that nobody wants to come to WT because we rarely make the 8 etc. Mate, I've seen players willingly sign with clubs that regularly finish below us on the ladder and perform far worse than us most years, so I really don't think us not making the 8 is an issue.

We are on the cusp of making the finals nearly every year, we never finish out of contention or dead last. Perhaps if just one or two of these 'top' players came to play with us they could actually help us to become a regular top 8 team and real Premiership threat! You would think that it would be an incentive and a challenge to be part of a team that is on the verge of lifting itself to become one of the better teams in the comp, but they seem to have absolutely no foresight at all.

Mate we are on the cusp of making finals nearly every year but have only made it 3 times, last time was 2011 and you don’t think it has a bearing on recruitment

No I don't.

apparently bulldogs r jumping into the fray for David fiftas signature....can we dive in.......

All this had me thinking about who I was most happy about as a signing from another club.

Wests Tigers: I got excited about Terry Hill coming over.

Nostalgia
Balmain: really excited when Neil Pringle signed.

Western Suburbs: I thought Bob Lindner was a beaut.

Ellery Hanley covers two of those questions , **but when we got the fantastic four of Farrar , Thomas ,Gillespie and Ryan they were good days**

As for the WT's , the thought of Tuqiri and Tuiaki was exciting but Hodgson wins out as that stage it looked like we may have become related through marriage

Don't forget Langmack!

Most excited about was Nick Graham. Both us and the Broncos wanted him and we won...won being used in a very loose term here.

Both Nick Graham and Sam Harris were terrific players when we signed them. I honestly don't know what happened to them after they joined up. Graham in particular became near useless!

Graham wishes he was near useless at the WT's

Lost his heartbeat as well ...that game when he stepped out of Piggy Riddell's way when we got beaten by back to back 50's

Sam Harris was injured(back) before he arrived and never got over it,as usual we didnt do a proper medical check on him

We will be mentioned at the end when the headline will say....

Fafita rejects Tigers approach to sign with XXXXXX .. Tigers miss another target ... We are only there for their managers to help increase other teams offers..

Why all the drama, people actually wanted to sign Lomax for a better deal in his favour? What would you offer, 600k or 7 years? Both?
Only time will tell who got dudded there, Lomax or the drags, but one parts has been ripped off for sure.

Did I actually read people are upset we won’t get Moylan. You should be rejoicing, once that 1.7 mil is spent, that’s the end of the fantasy shopping. We all better pray we DONT waste it on the likes of Moylan, due to his hammies if nothing else. Have we learnt nothing from Ivan the terrible?

OK, we've missed Mitchell, Lomax and Tetevano.... Who should we go for?

Couldn’t agree more. The people who say “no-one will sign for us because we haven’t been playing finals” don’t seem to be aware of any other clubs. Not playing finals didn’t stop Klemmer and Ponga signing for Newcastle, or RTS for the Warriors, or Valentine Holmes for the Cowboys. Wanna guess Souths’ last three finishes before they signed Inglis? 14th, 10th, 9th. Mitchell himself might end up at the Titans FFS.

If a club doesn’t seem like a total basket case and offers the best deal, players will go there. It’s as simple as that.

That’s all true but how many clubs have gone 8 straight seasons without making the finals

RTS signed for the Warriors before the 2016 season and they hadn't played finals since 2011.
Inglis signed for Souths after they'd missed the finals for three straight years.
Klemmer and Ponga signed for the Knights after three straight wooden spoons.

Do you think there's a magic number after which players say to their agents "oh no, they haven't been in the finals for X years, I'd rather sign anywhere than there"?

That’s all good info still doesn’t equate to 8 straight

I don't think there's anything to add here. If you don't think players signing for the Knights off the back of three consecutive wooden spoons clearly demonstrates that players will sign for anyone who offers the best contract you are obviously not going to listen to anything. Have a good evening.

I whould like to add something.i was just giving my opinion there’s no right or wrong it’s just an opinion.I may not agree with your opinion but I respect your right to have one ,but it seems respect is a one way street

I know it's the easy way out, but the right player at the right price. If we land either Musgrove or the young lad from the eels for 2020 then tetavano's spot is filled. As I stated, we didn't "miss" Lomax, we just choose to not offer a ridiculous deal.

Mitchell I agree, but that is the right calibre of player to spend big money on. It is the first time ever I can remember we have publicly tried to lure a young top player, and it didn't work out.

My point is, if you miss out on a Ferrari at auction you don't go and buy a Kia the next day. You're either in the market for premium players, or for solid first graders, Ivan paid premium money for solid first graders. The fact we don't want to do that anymore is probably a big reason why we seem to be "missing out" and we should be happy with that.

Yep. Spot on.

by the sounds of reading posts on here

1. there isn't that many quality players to sign
2. not a lot of players want to come to concord

perhaps a combination of both. maybe best to wait until next year

edit cant say i've heard of lomax; musgrove and the players people mentioning here
