If Saab gets a release why is it assumed he’s coming here? Have I missed something that’s been reported?

No, it just makes some sense:
- he wants to play first grade
- we have a roster spot
- we have little competition for a wing spot
- his request for a release coincided with Thompson going to GC

Doesn’t mean it will happen but it looks like a possibility. Not sure what other clubs have roster spots to fill.

Plus the fact that he was best mates at school with Tommy Talau, his school coach is our flegg coach and may become an assistant
In the future, he lives in Western Sydney and is tired of travelling to Wollongong for training - prefers somewhere closer to home.

That and what was said in the previous post would indicate us or the dogs the likely targets. Dogs are a rabble, we're looking fairly sharp. Would cost the same as what Thompson was on so no problem there either.

What happens to talau ? There’s no position for him then if Saab takes it ?

It's a tough one for him. He's not a winger but could do a job there. He could theoretically play anywhere from 2-7 and 11-13. He still needs to fill out more to play in the forwards but can really play anywhere but the front row. Versatility is good but means he's sort of a backup /mrfixit for now.

He can play wing for now over Jennings, unless we can sign someone better...

Wing for now but will be better than Mbye by the end of the year. I’d be selling Mbye high if possible this year. Long term play he’s overpaid for a centre.

Don’t know about having a Saab on the wing would much prefer a Ferrari

Well it would be better than the 4 cylinder automatic volvo station wagon we have on the left wing now

You mean a 2-stroke, rope start, with no oil and a ten year old spark plug.

That may well be the aim, if he plays like he did yesterday then he probably keeps his spot though. In the end if established stats are performing well and youth can't break in to the side because those ahead are playing too damn well then so be it. We'll be in a pretty good spot.

Can only trade out of a player when they are performing well. Mbye was excellent and has been good at centre for us. Talau will be better than him in my view by next year. He’s just a physical beast bigger, faster, stronger and has League pedigree. It’s only about money if you play Talau and offload Mbye it’s 700k or so you can spend on a 5/8, or a quality forward.

wouldn't rule out M'Bye potentially playing 6 in the next few years with Talau on his outside. if he plays like that every week he'd probably create plenty of opportunities.

TBH I wouldn’t be surprised if Madge turns over the majority of the squad over time. We are still battling but I’m much happier with the type of squad that’s building. Younger and more aggression than what we had over previous years.

Yeah, but hes not just a centre... hes a leader, multi positional, a good backup kicker, our captain and seems to be one of the few articulate lads in the group.

You cant always distill worth down to positional play.

Don’t know about NRL on Nine’s accuracy but they just posted an article via Facebook that essentially says we will try shop Marshall overseas to ESL and lure Foran...couldn’t think of a more Wests Tigers signing if it was true.

Marshall, like Farah, is Tigers through and through. Why would they bring Benji back to his club (and extend his contract at Maguire's urging) only to 'shop' him overseas? Benji at this age doesn't get shopped, he *chooses* to play Super League or see out the season and retire. And for us to then make a play for Foran? Mole, you are drunk.

Seems media speculators think the Tigers should sign a controlling half though. If they want an over-the-hill type then Blake Green or Chad Townsend are the ones.

Honestly, there’s very few halves available. For cheap Foran ain’t a bad signing, all depends on how his body holds up during the season if he keeps getting injured then steer clear

Not many halves on the market at all unfortunately.

They’re not really shopping him, his contract ends after this season so more like they’re just not re-signing him

Sure. Thanks for clarifying. Bit of a rubbish rumour then. Thanks Mole.

I actually think if Foran can stay healthy it would be a great signing assuming it wouldn’t break the bank, if anyone has been watching the dogs games since coming back from the break you’d agree with me he’s been there best by far

Foran would be the perfect partner for Brooks 'and' the perfect leader for our team.

Still a great player. Controls games better than anyone we have.

But...as we all know...whether his body can stand up to it is a whole different issue.

Foran on a 1 year deal or 1+1 with a team option would be excellent business. Any longer and it would be madness given his injuries.

He is a gun player. Can do it all and has premiership winning experience. As mentioned earlier, him and Brooks would work well or even Foran and Reynolds. Our team is incredibly young and talented so a couple of experienced halves who can steer us around are what we need. Especially if we can retain Grant who's already showing great game management skills.
