Great listen to Madge on Triple M about building our roster for the future.

He makes a lot of sense on that interview and good to hear he dropped a few names in the current squad who he's obviously keen to keep long term and build the squad around.

The focus is clearly on developing youth so I'm very interested to hear who may pick up development contracts for next season and whether we can keep the bulk of this years' Jersey Flegg squad together.

Any bullet points for people who are too lazy to listen through it ?

Oh geez...

Talked about the difficulties of fixing a salary cap and stating the WT won't be drawn into that again;
They have a 2-3-4 year plan of players (who they deem marquee) whom they would be interested in targeting;
The emphasis is on developing juniors, spoke about the likes of building the squad around Doueihi, Blore, Laurie, Stefano, Tuilagi, Simpkins...and the adding that marquee player to take the team to the next level;
Says leadership among the playing group is developing despite the picture being portrayed by the WT doco - they only screen a very limited portion of what they film;
No mention of who they are currently targeting but mentioned there are no real marquee players off contract this season, so I suspect we'll be pretty quiet in the marketplace this off-season.

I don’t think we brought Hastings here to play 14?

Surely they've bought him to play in the halves.

Manu may be a bit more?

Manu 1
Laurie 6
Madden 7
Brooks 9
Adam 13 (could be the link)?
Hastings 14

We have had 3 competent coaches in our history. Tim Sheens, Ivan Cleary and Madge. One ran his race the other ran away. The club has to stick to their plan and not buckle under media pressure.

They know what they offered players like Latrell, Fox, Finucane, TPJ. Evidently they know we have to pay overs to get top tier talent. Wisely they will build and attract top tier players when we are a better footy team.

I'd take Schoupp as well. Looks a good solid centre and we could use another one for next year.

Yeah I noticed him when we played the dogs, looks decent.

Yes that’s good about targeting and retaining young players which I would hope includes some of our U21s squad. Hard to tell whether he just means those that are playing NRL and KOE.

Next couple of months with recruitment will be interesting.I reckon they should at least talk to Lamkins and work out who’s worth keeping for next year and beyond as part of a premiership winning strategy.

We might be seen to be a joke at the moment but I really hope they are carefully planning to build a very solid base for the next 3-5 years.

Is manu a fullback tho, hate to pay him full back money to end up the centre would be another Mbye. I'd direct my marquee money somewhere else.

Has played 11 games at fullback at the club with the greatest fullback in the world. Has excelled when I have seen him there. Agree a MUCH beeter value signing than Gutho.

I agree. Lambkin is also one of the most important people at the Tigers for our pathways.

Gus’s take on Parra. Completely agree with him, 80% of a good team comes via development. Over recruitment won’t buy you a premiership.

Gould says Parramatta's woes stem from being a 'manufactured' team.
"They fold under pressure every time. As soon as some team takes it to [them] they get isolated as a team. There's no sense of team, there's no sense of resilience about them, there's no common cause about them," Gould said.
"It's kind of like as soon as they're challenged, they break up, they isolate, and it's every man for themselves – and we saw that tonight again.
"They're not like the top-two teams [the Storm and Panthers]; the top-two teams are developed teams, they're kids that have come through together, playing together for a long period of time, they've been in the Storm system or the Panthers system, and even South Sydney and the Roosters have more of a culture and more of a feel and a personality and character about their club than what this Parramatta team does at the moment.
"And that's not casting aspersions on individuals; it's just the way it's been crafted and brought together and cobbled together with high-price purchases. It's not always the way to win a premiership."

Interesting - because that seems to be the path the Bulldogs have decided to take for next season.

In fairness to Gus - 99% of that has occurred before he signed with Bulldogs. They may start recruiting young, e.g. signing up Tuifua. Bulldogs have historically always been successful when blooding groups of their own juniors/debutants.

I also think the Bulldogs are so bad that they need to sign players just to avoid being diabolical. With no standout juniors and little to build on I think this is another 5 year plan and in the interim they want to avoid being horrible.

I wouldn't put cleary in there. I think he manages teams well but his recruitment is dreadful. Even at Penrith choosing Edwards and getting rid of Laurie shows a lack of foresight. I could be wrong, we'll see what he does with his brilliant squad, but he buried us for years with what he did to us. Both Sheens and Madge have had a clear style of play and an approach to recruitment. Might not be perfect but there's intention and clarity there. Cleary was a mess.

He’s a competent coach. What he did to the club is tragic. Set us back 4 years.

Gus just hedging his bets like he always does just in case next year it all goes to mud at the dogs - then he will come in and save the day.

he did buy the Huth though, so he is trying to level out the advantage
