Great listen to Madge on Triple M about building our roster for the future.

He makes a lot of sense on that interview and good to hear he dropped a few names in the current squad who he's obviously keen to keep long term and build the squad around.

The focus is clearly on developing youth so I'm very interested to hear who may pick up development contracts for next season and whether we can keep the bulk of this years' Jersey Flegg squad together.

We have had 3 competent coaches in our history. Tim Sheens, Ivan Cleary and Madge. One ran his race the other ran away. The club has to stick to their plan and not buckle under media pressure.

They know what they offered players like Latrell, Fox, Finucane, TPJ. Evidently they know we have to pay overs to get top tier talent. Wisely they will build and attract top tier players when we are a better footy team.

I wouldn't put cleary in there. I think he manages teams well but his recruitment is dreadful. Even at Penrith choosing Edwards and getting rid of Laurie shows a lack of foresight. I could be wrong, we'll see what he does with his brilliant squad, but he buried us for years with what he did to us. Both Sheens and Madge have had a clear style of play and an approach to recruitment. Might not be perfect but there's intention and clarity there. Cleary was a mess.

As much as I'd love to stick the boot into Ivan some more, I do wonder how much he was involved in the money side of things. He definitely picked the wrong players, but I'm not sure if it was his decision to offer the ridiculous contracts. Sounds like Hartigan makes the decisions at the moment around how much to pay, so possibly Kelly Egan was doing the negotiating previously.

Don’t forget getting rid of burton who looks to be a superstar in the making .

I will hold off calling him a superstar until he plays at the dogs and doesn't have all the class around him. When all the SOO players were out and the team replied on him he was not playing near as good. Not saying he is not a good player but it's a diffent ballgame when you play in average squads compared to top line ones.

Be very surprised if Burton doesn’t make a massive difference at the dogs next year. He strikes me as a player ver similar to Munster. I rate him not far behind Cleary in the talent department

In the last two panthers game he has down some individually brilliant things which didn’t matter who was around him. I agree with you though, it will be interesting to see him in a mediocre team.

Kelly Egan and Ivan CLeary were mates and Pascoe had little choice but to sign off on the contracts as agreed to by Cleary and Egan. Yes, I know he could have said no, but how realistic is that when the head coach and the manager of football operations are in front of you saying we need this player and we need to pay this amount (probably also saying he has got offers elsewhere to choose from and we have to be quick).

I don’t agree. Edwards is very underrated by everyone but Penrith. Laurie is a great potential talent but Edwards is seasoned and is really close to Nathan, so team unity might be a part of it. Either way it’s the salary cap you can’t keep them all. And he chose Edwards and a back up in Crichton / Stains. Be interesting with what’s next if they don’t retain Edwards after next year. But with Kikau possibly moving on they should be able to retain the remaining off contract players.

Been a bit disappointed with his recent performances..described by commentators as "rocks or diamonds"..maybe the rocks will disappear in a new environment?

Well next year Madge has the tools there to push for a 7th or 8th placed finish. Needs to start getting his team selections

Unfortunately 'big name' often just means someone who's well known at our club and that they played origin a few times 7 years ago ?

I just see it this way.

Imagine you went to your mates, had a big party with everyone, something went down and you were the only one that told the truth or as some people would say "dobbed on the boys".

You then rock up to training and everyone is giving it to you all the time for dogging the boys, with some people taking it pretty extreme.

I am more then sure it would play on your mind at training and in the game because you really don't want to be around them.

So yeah, more or less I could see Lomax coming across to us.

He's been hinting that for a while now.

But yes saying is planning for next 3 years on recruits to complement our young guns.

Mi want him even more if he was man enough to decide not to go and do the right thing. Doesn’t succumb to peer pressure. Compelling. Rich.

Utoikamanu is a pretty big name.

Maybe we're upgrading his contract.

Personally I'd prefer we got more AD, Stefano, Laurie, Blore type players than the Packer, Reynolds, Blair types that come with huge salaries and huge expectations.
