Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

I thought Nic Meaney at Newcastle was a really good young player. I mentioned this back in June. Big and quick and only going to get better.

He is now sitting behind Kayln Ponga.

To me he is a clear stand out in that list in terms of price and likelihood he would jump at the chance.

Where does Dylan Phythian sit in the pecking order?

Off contract fullbacks for 2018.

Tom Carr, Mason Cerruto, Lachlan Coote, Dale Copley, Nathan Davis, Anthony Don, Jarryd Hayne, Joseph Manu, Nick Meaney, Tyrone Phillips, Zac Santo, Billy Slater, Dylan Smith, Young Tonumaipea

Billy Slater…

Why settle for another un proven rookie

Too injury prone …next

Why wait till they are off contract? Other teams clearly don't. Why not sign them for a year ahead or pressure them to be let out early. Or better yet, pressure them for a release then sign them up like all the cool clubs are doing these days.

Cleary and Latrell Mitchell, let's go hard for them.

Comparisons made against our 7 best forwards

Tolman
Appearances for 2017 24 1st
Trys 1 equal 4th
Tackle breaks 15 3rd
Average hit ups game 12.6 1st

Post contact meters 1011 1st 297 more than any tiger

Ofloads 14 2nd

Tackles 909 1st and 429 more than any tiger
Tackle efficiency 92.8% 2nd

A clear upgrade on any of our forwards
I would prefer latrell Mitchell to but it ain't going to happen

See here's the thing, Des used to carry around a giant stats book with him, and in his world (which is not necessarily the real world), Tolman is the best prop in the game, which quite frankly is rubbish. He's not the type of forward we need, we're ok for props, we need a world class backrower.

I heard a rumour out of Brisbane this week that Kevin Walters will switch Milford to Fullback if he takes the reins from Wayne.

Maybe if we speed up this rumour and make enough noise, this might upset Jordan Kahu and tempt him to ask for a release?

He would be a good solid Fullback which will fit in with our current squad.

And a good goal kicker too! Probably won't leave QLD though.

I don't like Jordan Kahu as a fullback at all. Much prefer him as a goal-kicking winger.

I Strongly believe we will be signing Ben Barba very soon and we could really use his speed and elusiveness in our squad if not this year then next.

I strongly believe in life on other planets too, but it doesn't mean there is any. If Barba is allowed back into the NRL then the Sharks will take him back, no sweat.

I think it's a very real possibility.

"If life ever evolved on Mars, our research suggests it could have found a sub-surface niche beneath today's severely hyper-arid surface," Dr Schulze-Makuch added.

A European rover due to land on Mars in 2021 as part of the ExoMars mission will drill two metres into the soil to look for signs of life.

The findings are published in the journal Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences.

P.s. Sorry I've got a really bad case of "Off Season NRL Withdrawals" I'm possibly going nuts. Geez I hope we go ok against the Chooks. I think it's the only cure. I'm not asking for a win, just a bit of shape and good D.

Des? Is that you?

No it's Dean Pay
He can't tackle
He can't make meters
He can't play big minutes
He is always injured
He just can't do his job

Hope you're right mate. I'm not too worried about him playing up, just put it in the contract, where if he does, we can cut him loose. Like Idris last year, if it fails, it doesnt really matter. (as long as we aren't paying too much) 350 a year tops i reckon.

Give him a deal like the roosters supposedly gave Frank Paul. $60k

That sounds like the deal SBW was on at the Chooks…...playing for 50k and "the love of the game" whilst Unca Nick buried 500k in cash in Sonny's veggie garden as a goodwill gesture.
