Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

Off contract fullbacks for 2018.

Tom Carr, Mason Cerruto, Lachlan Coote, Dale Copley, Nathan Davis, Anthony Don, Jarryd Hayne, Joseph Manu, Nick Meaney, Tyrone Phillips, Zac Santo, Billy Slater, Dylan Smith, Young Tonumaipea

I Strongly believe we will be signing Ben Barba very soon and we could really use his speed and elusiveness in our squad if not this year then next.

Think someone else strongly believed that also but has kinda gone MIA now.

Pascoe is said to have buried this rumour.

Even if true we would have to pay 150k+ more then the Sharks. Anyone know how much the Sharks have left in their cap?

The Sharks have Dugan, Moylan and Holmes all contending for the fullback spot. I seriously doubt they will be after him.

Not what Flanagan says. They want him back.

I thought Nic Meaney at Newcastle was a really good young player. I mentioned this back in June. Big and quick and only going to get better.

He is now sitting behind Kayln Ponga.

To me he is a clear stand out in that list in terms of price and likelihood he would jump at the chance.

i havent seen him play however i remember when Newcastle signed Ponga on big coin and a few knights fans i know said they thought it was crazy as they believed Meaney would be a gun fullback if given the chance in firts grade

There doesn't seem to me much left to pick from by way of backs this season
If we could get a couple of players like Rona and Koribeti this year it would be fantastic but that's unlikely to happen at this late stage
So what do we do with our last two spots and 1.4 million ?
Bring someone up from within our own system with little experience
I don't think that's a good idea until we have strong first grade side winning more games
We know we have a strong forward pack but
I think we should make a play for Tolman
I believe with the addition of Tolman our forward pack would have to be in the top 3 of the competition with experience and depth as week as pushing to be the best overall in the Nrl
Let's face it
If we are lacking speed and class in our backs we may as well bouts the best forward pack in the comp
Then we play the game to our advantage through our forwards
Have them running at the backs all day
1 Thompson
2 Nofoluma
3 Marsters
4 Milne
5 MWZ / Kev
6 Brooks / Gamble
7 Reynolds / Marshall / Tui
8 Packer
9 liddle / Mclwrick / Goodinet
10 Tolman
11 McQueen
12 Eisenhuth
13 Taylor

14 Matalino
15 Twal
16 Aloiai
17 Lawrence

Looks solid
No point having money sitting in the bank
We can offload a forward when a top class back becomes available

You're crazy if you want Tolman when we already have Twal, Eiso and Matulino. All of whom are on less than Tolman!

Yes That's true about Twal and Eisenhuth
I have high hopes for both of them and Aloiai
Matalino's knee is suspect
Packer missed plenty of games towards the end of last year
I wouldn't rely on Grant and Sue to take us forward
I agree 100% with getting some much needed backs
Find them
I would look at Tolman for one year with an option in our favour but would make the dogs pay some

Then we keep the best forwards and release or trade the under performers at the end of the year

By then there will be more backs coming onto the market that we can target
Can't see Grant or Sue here next year anyway
I want to have the best forward pack in the comp

Hope you're right mate. I'm not too worried about him playing up, just put it in the contract, where if he does, we can cut him loose. Like Idris last year, if it fails, it doesnt really matter. (as long as we aren't paying too much) 350 a year tops i reckon.

Give him a deal like the roosters supposedly gave Frank Paul. $60k
