Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

Sharks officially released Hodkinson to Manly. If there is any truth to the Taupau rumours which make zero sense to me he will leave soon. Manly don’t have the coin to take on contracts unless someone leaves.

Why did the Bulldogs let Thurston go..

Happens all the time…but keep sookly la la ing...carry on..

Don’t think anyone’s “sookly la Laing”

More just reflecting lol

Careful some get touchy when you bag the ex coach.

It was a genuine howler playing Rankin over Addo Carr and a lot of fans called it at the time.

Anyway We need our next signing to be a speed man.

Ideally a young fullback for me.

My main priority personally is for us to snatch Nathan Cleary, now that bloke is gonna be an absolute star

Bring in Marty and a fullback and I’ll be more than happy

Manly were on overs without Hodkinson .. pretty sure the signing of Joel Thomspon put them right over .. will be very interesting indeed to what happens here .. ?? There are a couple of big boppers in there I wouldn't mind getting to assist us up front .. !! I'm hearing it's Walker to Souths, and Taupau to the Rorters - apparently they have plenty of $$ still under the cap left … cough cough bull$hit .. !!

100% correct Teddy.

Good luck though, some people just wont ever see it that way.

People forget that Rankin was 1st choice kicker at the time

We let Fifita go , every club has horror stories

Look at the Broncos , they let Hunt go ,Arrow go , Wallace go etc and they have the master coach …..

So is there any rumour of Addo Carr coming back or is this just irrelevant squabble?

Just crapping on , more chance of Whispering Jack Farnham retiring once and for all than JAC returning

John Farnham!!!
Now that’s a bloke we should look at signing.
When the going gets tough he could really take pressure down?

If we really rated him we would have offered more than one year when we signed him and not played him second fiddle to Rankin.
Bellamy chased him and put him in FG from the get go -along with his supposed deficiencies - and he hasnt looke back since.
You can make all the excuses in the world why it happened but he was in our grasp and we slipped up.

Oh we definitely slipped up in his signature, but it's equally JAC's fault if he indeed wanted to stay.

Yeah Bellamy put him in FG - after Tigers blooded him in FG already. Bellamy is by far a superior coach than anyone we've ever had, but he didn't discover JAC.

In actuality Sharks are the ones who really slipped up, allowing JAC being signed to Tigers.

Or he can get us playing to win every week :righton:

More crapping on

Anyway heaps of big names on the market , hopefully we can find some aces for their places for 2019 and beyond

Not signing JAC for longer really wouldn't even register in the Top 10 big events our club has been through since inception. Having Junior as our first coach, the drama with Robbie and JT, signing JT as coach, then turning on him, Sheensy losing control and letting the inmates run the asylum, Tuaki, Dwyer and Chrissy all getting injured and in effect their careers ending (albeit Chris reinvented himself), losing bigger stars like Tedesco and Fifita, signing Blair…

Not retaining a winger, barely registers a mention. Signing Cleary Junior, now that for me would be the highlight of the decade.

Ben Barba shines with hat-trick for St Helens in Challenge Cup

Ben Barba has continued his fantastic form for St Helens, helping the Super League club to a 36-18 win over Castleford in the sixth round of the Challenge Cup with a hat-trick of tries.

The former Canterbury and Cronulla fullback scored three tries - to take his season's tally to 15 - and created two others as Saints helped erase the memory of their humiliating 53-10 defeat at Castleford in last year's corresponding tie.

St Helens are a shadow of the side that struggled under Keiron Cunningham and, although most of the credit for the transformation should go to his successor Justin Holbrook on the anniversary of his appointment, the Barba effect cannot be over-stated.

He only sighed with us because he was a tigers supporter as a kid, dunno if he still is now

Watched the Wolfpack v Warrington game while listening to the Hammers

Real spiteful affair must have been about 4-5 punch ups , blokes getting kneed in the back when they scored , not a good look at all

Wolfpack just lost it , lead 8-6 until the blow ups started and then got pounded in the end

I think he would come onto Nofa's wing as much as I hate to say it…

1\. Corey Thompson
2\. Curtis Rona
3\. Mahe Fonua
4\. Esan Marsters
5\. Malakai Watene Zelezniak

No way I don't think that will happen. Rona is a left winger and as much as I do like MWZ, I think Rona's an upgrade on him.

I do know Sharks are looking to sign Taupau to replace Gallen. Hooper today shot down the Curtis Rona rumour said it was dead spoke to his manager, WT and ARU.
Sharks contact who told me they were after Taupau believes Kev is going to ESL which is where the Rona interest stems from.
Have to wait and see I guess but pretty strong that Sharks will pay big money for Taupau

Blind Freddie could have seen the potential in JAC .He would still be with us if that idiot Taylor had tried to resign him.He was killing it in ISP every week and in FG when given the chance .Thank God Taylors gone I dont know what Easts see in him

I'm not a JT defender, but just so you are aware, JT was head coach when JAC was poached from Sharks NYC. You can't really accuse the bloke of not spotting the potential in a guy he / his team raided from another club.

And just for the broken record, the story goes:
- JT selects Rankin at starting wing Rd 1 2016
- JAC wants a go in firsts, but also in fairness he has just come over from NYC
- JAC gets a run Rd 7, then again Rd 11, i.e. only took him 6 weeks to get a go in FG
- Tigers look to re-sign JAC after a good debut
- Marika Koroibete signs with super rugby 18/May/16
- Unconfirmed: but story says Pascoe made an offer to JAC in May before he went overseas and asked JAC's management to continue negotiations when he returned
- JAC has already entered into discussions with Melbourne May/16 and signs with them 06/Jun/16, i.e. 3 weeks after Storm officially lost Koroibete
- Unconfirmed: Pascoe gets back and gets frustrated with JAC, why he would sign so quickly with Melbourne. JAC has somewhat a change of heart and club and mgmt reach out to Melbourne to mediate. Melbourne offer to release JAC from his deal subject to a payout by Tigers, which is declined.

Pick someone else as the poster-boy for "the guy we let go", because with JAC it is pretty clear Tigers rated the guy enough to poach him from Sharks then start him within a few weeks, but also Storm lost Marika and aggressively targeted his replacement.

Mate at the end of the day the clueless coach that he was picked Rankin (a player who currently will never see NRL football again) over imo the best winger in the game and at the time was the far better option.

No need to look into it…. rankin was picked over Addo-Carr for majority of games. If I was JAC and the best team in the NRL are saying there’s a spot ready for me, over a team who’s picking a player like Rankin over me I’d leave too

JAC will play origin this year.... max next year

While Rankin stinks it up overseas

No Idea!!!

A couple of whispers around social media that Kev has been released to go to ESL, so maybe your contact is right.

Rona would add a tall outside back which will give us more options. I don’t know why we aren’t at least being linked to edge forwards outside of Lawrence we have no real quality MCK, McQueen, Rochow is close to the worst on the edges out of the top teams. It doesn’t look like Aloai is being considered out wide and clearly a middle forward bun Cleary.

Isn't it nice to see Lawrance spoken about as a quality player, I love that he is starting to get the respect he deserves.

Before this season I was not of the same view. Not being biased here but he is more deserving of the left second row position than Boyd Cordner.

Here, Here.
