Only 2 reason IMO
1 - Using us like most players do to increase his value
2 - Madge is gone and he was the reason he wanted to come..

Seems like the guys that did it aren’t regretting the “professional risk” they took. I’m fact, they improved their careers. 1 coaches the premiers, 1 player has played origin and plenty of finals, another is about to play origin.

Penrith paid for Madge most of the first year (If not more) from Memory....

Ivan paid to get out of his contract, the money he gave WT covered Madge's first year.
The money came out of Ivan's own pocket.
Most probably refunded by Penrith.

Not if they have a get out of jail clause in their contract that states if Madge is not there they can walk

Of course, that goes without saying. That would be in line with the terms of the contract. But, you know we were talking about players reneging on their contracts because they've changed their minds.

It doesn’t have to be one extreme or the other though. You can sign good players while developing young guys to take over in 2-3 years time.
