Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

If Kelly signs then masters to 2nd row. Kelly with fonua in centres.

Good call. Marsters has excelled in the centres this year but he shows all the attributes of a top drawer, wide running second rower. He clearly has the build for it.

Except that Marsters is killing it at Centre and we have a severe lack of depth in that position so why would you move him?

Agree
All the talk of shifting Marsters to centre is ludicrous!

Because while our depth in second row is sound our talent there is somewhat lacking. Marsters can play second row while Fonua and Kelly play centre, and if anything was to happen to them mid- or post-game, then he can just shift there for the time. No harm done here

There has been no one signed that remotely would push Masters to second row .. it is like we have signed a marquee center or something

I have a few more signing options for our forward pack.

Tevita Pangai Junior
Korbin Sims
Ethan Lowe

Any of those 3 would be good, even better all 3 of them.

Lowe is already being targeted.

I’m not sure moving your in form centre to a new position he’s not familiar with is a great move.

He played second row most of his junior career in ISP and u20s and only moved to centre as a fill in. Not sure he's unfamiliar with the position mater

He's not unfamiliar with it, he played 2nd row in U/20's. There were two options over the last off season though - get him to add some size and play him as an impact 2nd rower or get him to trim down and play 80 as a big framed centre. They went with the latter and it's been paying off so I don't see them changing it all around now.

Playing second row in NRL is much different to playing that position in ISP and U20’s.
Hence why they moved him to centre in NRL where they thought he had the best chance to succeed.
He is a good second rower in the making down the track but not yet.

Taking a closer look at Brian Kelly tonight. Good first half from him. Has been battered a couple of times through hospital passes, but i can see why Ivan signed him. His head is in the game at all times, always pushing up in the right spot either looking for the ball, defending or attempting to shut down a kick. Nice to have a Koori fella on board too.

Agreed..he will be good for us…solid knows his job and a genuine centre..

If Kelly is signed is that for 19 or a mid season switch?

The call was that he's all but signed and I'd imagine it would be for 2019\. I can't see Manly releasing one of their starting players mid season when they don't have to…
