It's a bit baffling, and symbolic of the chaotic recruitment of recent years. He's the sort of player that other clubs would sign halfway through a season for 6 months to see if it works out, or on a train and trial contract. Somehow we got hoodwinked into thinking he was a young superstar and offered him an nrl contract, and somehow for 2.5 years.

Sure maybe he was coming back from injury, match fitness etc. But if he was then why offer such a long deal to an unproven player?? If he sucks hopefully it wouldn't be too hard for him to get a gig playing rugby in japan or europe.

Meanwhile the likes of Dykes, Sloan etc. are mostly playing in Ressies....
Even Lachie Miller is more worthy of taking a punt on.

Sheens signed him, So there must be something....
Seriously, Kiah Cooper is a better player.

Ok you’ve got me. But of that list only Moylan, Finucane, Hynes, McInnes were plucked as developed players.

I’ve really lost the point of this discussion.

Teams use their juniors to build a base. And supplement what is lacking by buying key position players in their prime.
Even the mighty Panthers did it for their recent premiership.

But you can’t fill a top 30 roster with a squad full of experienced players.
Refer back to 2018 we had Tyson Gamble as the only player yet to play first grade.
When we had injures we had cover sure, but we effectively replaced a mid range 1st choice player with a mid range back up player. Besides an aging Marshall and later Farah we didn’t have one player of superstar quality in that side.

Odd you mention 2018 - Probably our best year gone and best in the few before.
I agree, You're not going to buy 30 - 700k players.

Not sure what your point is,
But mine is - We're far too lop sided with Kids...
Everyone here is standing in applause while we fill our squad with more.

I don't care how talented they are, They're not going to lead themselves or teach themselves to be NRL Players, And they're not going to ever be consistent.

We continually overspend on kids, to the point where we can't afford to put any leaders or game breakers in there to hold them accountable - Or get the best of them.

Not only is it not going to work - It's dumb!!
But still - Why MUST keep them all....
And we can't bide the time with them, They've all gotta be in 1sts by 20..
Rinse and Repeat
I'm over it.

I dunno if it was a reflection of our squad at the time, but I thought Kiah went pretty well.

Surprised he wasn't offered anything, but I guess he hasn't really kicked on now.
 
I'm always a little amused by the majority of this forum complaining about the leaks to the media about potential signings and internal matters at this club then coming on this thread and asking all and sundry for insights and rumours about signings!! Not having ago at anyone, just makes me laugh.
Also, it's a no from me for Moses!

Just desperate/hopeful for some good news!! We are all hurting, can’t wait to be at our first final after how many years..

This is a rumours thread after all, members need to come here and get their daily feed to keep them going. A bit of fun. No real substantiated news is probably good news in the end 🤞

Your right, and to make things worse, when we develop and unearth a gem they leave us. Hopefully things will turn around. I hope the COE, a new direction in coaching and an emphasis on pathways will work.
We don't really have much else to hang our hats on so like blind mice we will follow the scent.
Please ....give us humble mortals a break and let us succeed.

I actually thought it was a train and trial deal of sorts for the rest of this season and then would carry over if we wanted him. If that's wrong it really shows how bad a state we are in atm.

The best juniors going - some generational players even...
Simona, Sironen, Tedesco, Woods, Brooks, Moses... A heap of U20's best team.

Summary = Surround the best kids you can find with nothing and no-ones all you like
but that's exactly what we'll all end up with.
None of the other successful teams are doing it this way - Bar Penrith (Arguably)

Jason Taylor was the problem there. That pr#ck cost us a decade of good results.

..... We'd win a game and go out for 2 nights on the piss like we're superstars.
