Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

Hey mate, I think your question was probably meant to be directed at Happy who I would consider would be more knowledgeable than me when it comes to most things rugby league.

For what it's worth I was certainly around when Garry Jack was playing and as far as I can recollect I thought he was a great player and that he was consistent in the way he played unless my memory has failed me and I am only remembering the highlights.

I consider him to be one of "our greats" having played for both our foundation clubs, but mostly remembered for his time at Balmain where he spent most of his career other than a couple of stints in England.

Have to feel for the guy suffering the Grand Final disappointments at the end of the 80's with Balmain and then having to suffer through the disastrous Allan Jones years.
Thanks for your reply

Young Liam Scolari and Jordan Hill seem determined to be with the club and I look forward to watching them again next year. Both have had injury setbacks but are still at WTs. I like that commitment and attitude.
Is there an article/information/social media that stated something along these lines? Would assume train and trial with the pre season squad.

I saw plenty of Garry Jack. I can honestly say that when the opposition made a break, I was always confident that he could stop them as the last line of defence. His defensive game was second to none and he was great under the high ball too. Had speed off the mark and could hit a hole.

Great all round player.
What would you rate in 1980's fullbacks? Top 5 ?

Players such as Ngutlik and Bula can play more than one position, Ngutlik has played centre and Bula fullback, Tupou - centre, fullback and wing. If you are good enough imo, a place will be found for you especially with Sheens, Mashall, Farah and Furner at the club.

You think....
I think Benji has proven multiple times he feels entitled when it comes to the Tigers.... Like
- In 2013 when he got his nose out of joint and wanted an extension to his current contract (Exp 2015) For 2016 and 2017 - When he was playing rubbish football. Threw the toys out and went to Rugby.
- "Assumed" he could wait until the end of the year to see if he would decide he wanted another contract with the Tigers at the end of 2020
and should automatically be afforded one if he did (Again, left in a huff)
And now he's gone from disgruntled former player to incoming head coach in about 18 months.

Wonder what the response will be here when we let a couple halves go, And he runs out in the 6 at some point next season....
I guarantee you he's thought of it.

As I wrote earlier, it comes down to belief. I respect the opinions of those who don't believe in the arrangement. I do take comfort from the fact Sheens has mentored some very good NRL coaches during his career.

Signed with the Storm before he'd played First Grade for us...
He was rated by us, But untested - and the Storm beat us to the punch.. They are your facts.
And it was Pascoe - Meyer was already gone... (More facts for you)

Koroibete (And quite a few of those other boys) Were never quite the same after their best mate (Mosese) Killed himself...
They all needed a change out of the club at that time.
- Much like the Panthers exodus after Ben Alexander in the 90's
Mayer comment was a question ...not a fact and we were discussing JAC on the Forum before he signed with Melbourne while he was playing with us ....many were worried about his defence ...I reckon it would have been June or July before he signed with Melbourne

Remember JAC's debut was against Melbourne ..and their wasn't a mention he had already signed with Melbourne during the game and that was Rd 7 ....Wiki says June 6 he announced his signature for 3 years at Melbourne .....seems like it was FACT .......

There has even been talk of a Hastings\Flanagan player swap for next year.

No way in the world would i accept a trade of Flanagan for Hastings.
However if we shipped out Brooks i would take Flanagan subsidized from the dogs on a cherapish 2yr deal.
Id play Hastings at lock let him pull the strings with the 6 on one side and the 7 on the other. Think Flanagan has been horribly managed throughout his career he's nothing out of the box but nor is Brooks imo

The best fullback ever , before Billy and Teddy changed the

Well, I was at that game and he was already done with Melbourne - That came from his family there...

Bellamy had been (Or sent someone) well earlier to watch him in Ressies - I'd find the story on it if I could be bothered..
That was before he debuted, Common sense tells me he didn't send someone to look at him in a ressies game after he'd just watched him for 80 minutes.

"When it was announced" WTF has that got to do with anything?
Kikau and Mahoney been "Announced" yet?
- They were signed a year ago.
Plenty of players get signed with no announcement - Been that way forever, The club announces it when they want / need or agree to....

From memory - We tried to get JAC to stay after he'd signed...
which might have delayed things....

The fact that Flanagan has been quickly moved on by the Roosters and Bulldogs, as quickly as they can, soon after arriving, says enough about the quality of the player to me. Particularly when the Bulldogs don't have another halfback on their books. I'm rather surprised the Knights haven't looked at him. But that may be another indictment.

You could argue that as a Madden replacement, on a NSW Cup contract, he wouldn't be out of place though.

He was never up to the task of being the roosters HB and the dogs have as i said managed him terribly, just about as bad as any player could have been. If we'd have kept Jock i would have comfortably had him at 7 as long as Hastings was pulling the strings. So i guess saying Flanagan is a Jock replacement would be pretty spot on.

Flanagan was recruited with his mate, Bronson Xerri, to join the Roosters. The enthusiasm for Flanagan seemed to drop off after Xerri was suspended.

Frank Ponissi was the person that came to watch JAC before the Storm game and signed him.
