We’ve got Doueihi, Walters, Talau, Mbye and madden who can all fill in the halves. We don’t need to waste another roster spot on another half I think. We need another second rower and winger more

Probably, but the scenario we were looking at was:
AD is injured for a month early in the season?
Walters is already out.
Laurie isn’t coming?

That would leave us with Mbye can cover both?
Madden probably but hasn’t played FG and hasn’t played for over a year.
Talau probably.

Just hope no one else gets injured in the meantime ?

We have the cash, may as well get it covered, imo.

Walters could be back for round 1. 6-9 months recovery and did it about 7 months before round 1. Wasn’t even wearing a brace in pictures I saw of him.

I'd be happier if he was back, just think we need someone who can cover fullback or 5/8th as a plan b

I have no problem with Mbye staying on he is the utility No14 , this is an important piece of the cog for any team his salary is ridiculous but that being said he will be an important piece as the season progresses not many can play in the forwards and cover most positions in the backs .

Had a genuine 5/8th who debuted 18 months prior.

AD is a genuine 5/8. I believe he had his debut in the halves.

Hey Blake, its like an old song ,They go together like a horse and carriage - you can;t have on without the other.Good teams need a good 1/2, for a half to perform he needs a good team.

Also, DCE looks like a star when AFB and Tapau were dominating and he had Turbo running off him. DCE did not forget how to play when the props and Turbo were injured, but if that is all you saw of him last year you would assume he was the worst 7 in the comp.

I don't think that can be said from half a game, I still haven't seen him throw a spiral right to left, he has a bullet left to right and I still have concerns on his defence in the front line. To me he is still a centre that may be able to transition to 5/8th, i need to see more.

Widdop would block the path for AD.

I'd like to see what he does when he's able to focus on one position and this one is his natural one. He has a lot to work on particularly defensively but he seems to have the raw skills.

We still have Madden, Walters, and Talau for cover if needed.

I'm more concerned about wing, fullback and second row. If we don't get Laurie this year, AD is 5/8 and Mbye is injured, who plays fullback?

Talau, Nofo, AJ?

To be fair a few of those aren't wingers

Its obvious that recruitment has been taken out of Madges hands with his imput only as a balance'.They are taking the lead of Storm and Easts and they want top class players not mediocre players.I expect many changes with the current squad over the next few years.

I think the expectation has been that Mbye would be fullback, unless we get Daine Laurie early, in which case Mbye would make way for him, while AD will be in the halves.

But even if we get DL early, is there a chance he could shift into the halves, and Mbye stay at fullback, and AD into the centres? Apparently Gus Gould rates Laurie as a fullback, but rates him even moreso as a half (if I recall some twitter post correctly)

I get what you're saying, he's unproven. I share your concerns about his defence but I think he'll improve.

It's a risk but I think we need to take it unless an elite 5/8 becomes available.

I get what you're saying, he's unproven. I share your concerns about his defence but I think he'll improve.

I agree, just think we need a plan B and Reynolds was that so we need a new plan B.

I agree with ya on that he’s a better 6 than a fullback the games I seen him play in the lower grades he got ragdolled a bit bringing the ball back but looked promising as a 6
