Sounded like the Broncos would like him.

**I urge everyone to watch his sit down / face to face with Matty Johns**

Why?

Why do we all of a sudden decide to buy players based on podcasts or interviews?

It made me appreciate his character a lot more.

If you're a footy fan like MYSELF, it's one of the good success stories of rugby league.

* Not to mention is as a great player.
Can play anywhere and always looks like likely.
He's better than almost all our backs.
I like him at centre for us.

Tall, fast, safe, creative and good finisher.

I was against him a couple of weeks ago but Im warming to him. The problem for me is that we have bought Laurie for FB. IMO Hynes is too small for centre or 5/8. Would be good at 1

Hynes to small for centre or five eight, you must have him confused with someone else, he is plenty big enough at 188cm and 90kg

These Brooks supporters want no one who might eventually replace him.

Yes Hynes could play 7, said it himself recently.

So this has now turned to a Brooks' thread?

Laurie is better than Hynes at fullback, Doueihi is better than Hynes at centre and 5/8. Both of these players don't have Hughes Munster, JAC, Smith, Papenhuyzen and Grant in their team.

If you think Laurie is better than Hynes at FB you have not been watching the games. Hynes at this stage has it all.

Laurie at this stage has speed and can take a bomb. His defence, putting it mildly is atrocious, does not link up very often, goes himself at every opportunity, does not st up anybody else etc.

And..... I am not convinced he is doing a good job of setting the defensive line.

Hynes eats him as a FB and would be a good centre alongside Gildart.

His defence can improve but that can be taught. He has done well this year considering it is his first full year at a new club with a team which has been badly beaten most weekends. Laurie has been involved in quite a few tries Including the Leilua no try and it was the Deouihi or Nofoaluma try. Hynes lacks what very good fullbacks have and cannot be taught, that is pace. He doesn't appear to be a finisher at all yet Talau who does finish well gets hammered on this forum.

Gildart hasn't played a game yet in the NRL yet you are confident his defence will be adequate?

PS The Storm have had a long line of outstanding fullbacks,- Slater, Munster, Hughes, Papenhuyzen. And guess what, Hynes is not one of them.

30 Pages read, a summary of some of the topics covered.

Gagai - No. He is 30+ and considered an origin player and would be asking big money. He has either been in star studded teams and been the beneficiary. He was ordinary at the Knights, a couple of good games in the years he was there. I would take the Gagai that plays for Qld, but not the NRL player. They are completely different players.

Mbye - As long as St George are paying considerable freight, let him go. Good win on the weekend, but it was against a depleted side that have been terrible. We would be very luck to scrape into the 8, and if we do I don't think we can seriously content. Getting a replacement from St George would be handy, but I think they are all hands on deck at the moment.

Panic offloading is just as bad as panic buying.

We've been trying to get rid of Mbye for more than a year - hardly a panic.

Amen. There are people on here who seem to think backing into eighth place is worth sacrificing the future for, apparently on the basis that having the right to get turned over 42-12 by Souths or Parra or the Roosters in round one of the finals makes the last decade worthwhile.

We're doing nothing this year, Mbye or not. If there's a chance to get most of his money back for next year we should accept it with open arms and thank our maker for forgiving another one of our terrible mistakes.

I am genuinely worried about this situation cause I’d say we’re about $1.01 to make the wrong decision.

Surely they can see what Mbye has done in the time he’s been here and the money he’s supposed to make next year and realise he can’t just now be getting a full time spot in our spine.

We are obviously still rebuilding this year and we know Mbye is not in the long term plans. It would be madness not to let him go if someone wants to take him. It would also be as crazy as not swapping Talau for JAC

Tough one, if we let Mbye go then Doueihi goes to 6 and we are short a quality centre or winger. Reserve grade are doing well but I don't think Cooper, Hoffman, Fitzgibbon or any of their outside backs are up to first grade yet.

Keeping him might take away our chances of freeing ourselves of his contract though. Tough decision for the club indeed

If Doueihi goes back to 6, our backs will see no ball again. The centres saw more ball than they had all year. Imagine JTJ with all that extra ball. I certainly have not written him off, whether centre or wing.

It's professional sport - there is no next year, just next week. Who would want to come here when we are willing to sacrifice a season? Hardly building a winning culture.

Or as the Roosters say...next man up

The most important thing is reducing Mybe's impact on our salary cap.

If the dragons are that desperate they should be asked to take on the majority of the contract.

A player trade wont help us reduce his contract.

If we have to pay 400k of Mbyes 800k salary next year, we may as well keep him. You will not get a decent no. 14 for $400k pa.

**St George Illawarra are in the market for a utility player but are unlikely to make a move for Wests Tigers player Moses Mbye.**

Dragons coach Anthony Griffin is understood to have met with Mbye last month after he was granted permission by the Tigers to speak with rival clubs for 2022, despite being under contract for one more season.

With hooker/lock Cameron McInnes ruled out for the season with a knee injury and a lack of depth in the centres, Griffin is keen to sign a utility player who can cover most positions in the backline and dummy half.

Another area of need is to recruit an experienced outside back for the remainder of the season after winger Jorden Pereira and second-rower Tyrell Fuimaono were forced to play in the centres in recent weeks.

Mbye has played fullback, centre, five-eighth and the role of bench utility for the Tigers this season and has previously filled in at hooker.

**However, discussions with the former Queensland Origin representative are believed to have stalled as the Dragons wanted Mbye this season and also baulked at his price tag if they were to sign him on a longer-term deal.**

Tigers coach Michael Maguire switched Mbye to five-eighth for last Friday night’s match against Newcastle and the move proved to be a masterstroke, with Adam Doueihi starring at centre and halfback Luke Brooks being heavily involved in the 36-18 defeat of Newcastle.

The Tigers are now just two points outside the top eight, while the Dragons face a test of character to hang on to sixth spot against Cronulla this weekend after losing four players – Josh McGuire, Tariq Sims, Tyrell Fuimaono and Mikaele Ravalawa – to suspension and fullback Matt Dufty with a shoulder injury.

**With former Manly and Sydney Roosters playmaker Jackson Hastings joining the Tigers next season, the club is willing to consider a release for Mbye but he remains a part of Maguire’s plans for this year.**

Simple question - would Laurie have been slotted into the FB position by Bellamy instead of Slater, Munster and Paps (don't rate Hughes as a FB) ?

If the answer is no ......

Anyone that is a reasonable first grade FB can finish off a try - how many players can set them up on a continuous basis? Hynes can!

I can’t believe they actually said “2 points out of the 8 like we are suddenly a chance after beating a team as bad as the knights. Legit question, when was the last time we won 3 games in a row

Hynes may not have blistering pace like Paps but he has timing and a keen footy brain. His all round game last week was a pretty good indication of what he is capable of without the regular Storm stars in the side leading the way, and it was fairly impressive.
As much as I like Laurie, I do think currently Hynes would be the better no 1 and we should be thinking of Laurie as a 6, as all reports are that he plays 6 well.
Hynes is worth a crack in my opinion.
