Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

I'm sure our offer will be amongst the best - although certain teams may be able to offer things outside the cap that we can't. He also knows that he can make rep teams from the Tigers - some players need to be in the top teams to do this, he doesn't. I'd like to think that he is enjoying his time with the team and ends up staying with us for his career. I'd be happy for his next contract with us to be 5 x 1M - a sign of intent.

thats way too much imo. Weve only just got our cap sorted, we cant now blow it back out of shape again. Im not saying we should low ball him but we cant be giving him a mil a season. Maybe a big upgrade for this season if we have unused cap space and no more than 800k a season (even thats a touch high) moving forward. Give him as many years as necessary to get the signing over the line but start with a 4 year offer and increase it if his management wants more.

We can top up his current contract which gives us a really good edge over other offers.

He is our marquee man. We just need to make sure that we don't lose him to the teams with better accountants.

Stef is on $270k for this year and next. Cannot even talk with other clubs till Nov this year. If there is to be an upgrade rather than a new contract then that would be factored into the overall deal.

Ie. He could wait and get an offer for $750k for 2024 and 2025 (which I think is closer to the mark) or he can extend till 2025 at $500k a season. Roughly the same coin but double what he's on at the moment for the next two years. That's ~$2M over 4 years instead of $540 over 2 and a big question mark after that.

I trust that the powers that be have this sorted and we have time regardless.

Speculation only , but it was supposed to be practically done and dusted prior to Christmas according to the Pom, I would have thought an announcement would be forthcoming ASAP as I believe Sheens was back at the desk Monday just gone.

Wait n see I guess

I'm still confident he will stay

I just have an inkling that his manager held off to see which direction the club was heading and weighing up the dollars and cents.
Its a huge decision for him, do I want more money now with an upgrade or wait for possibly more later on with teams like Storm or Rorters where they advocate long-term security, representative gigs etc.
The down side with waiting is a serious injury and/or form slump before he goes.
Hopefully the tigers have made him top dollar, 3yrs+ contract and we know the outcome soon.

Hopefully no quality club has targeted him.

Dude, dont joke like this...
Seriously we cannot take it.

What joke? I'll be filthy if we lose him.

O.K I know this was done before , but with what we have signed for next year , would it be worth trying to resign matterson , I know all the crap which went on , but he was superb when here before , he is just what we need to balance the pack , the slimmmy eels won’t resign him and we could even get him for this year . I know he is and was a prick but u can’t deny he is a class backrower , and sometimes to have to swallow ur pride . Interested to hear everyone’s views , AND just remember it’s only a talking point so be kind lol 😝

Matterson is better than Luc and Garner.
He's up there with the elite as backrowers.

Bad attitude though.

We're signing guys like Peachy, who seem to be the opposite , with great attitudes.

Pass on Matto for that reason alone.

Don't need that one bad egg effecting our team.

Between his concussions and his attitude I don’t think many clubs will be lining up for him

Stef is on 330k this year and next. If he signs a 4 year deal (2 year upgrade and 2 year extension at

500, 550, 600, 650k, thats 2.3 million for a kid that's played 20 first grade games. That's pretty good. Haas wasn't even getting that.

And again if he is killing it we could again upgrade him in 2 years time if he suddenly a guaranteed 800k a year prop.

The roooters will the biggest threat , as they will lose there two starting props at the end of this year , and we all know if they want someone they usually get what they want , hope we lock him up sooner rather than latter .

Zane Musgrove caught driving with a suspended license apparently

Surely it’s time to cut this bloke loose. He’s either in trouble, injured or under done.

FFS, the original comment said "apparently". But yet, the pile-on begins, from those who I'm sure have never been stupid or made a mistake in their lives. Model citizens all of them, no doubt. As if.

Okay mate. I’ve made mistakes and guess what they cost me my job. He’s made a heap and maybe it’ll cost him his job.

I don't see the connection with him, apparently, breaking a traffic/driving rule and that being justification for him being sacked as a professional NRL player. That's my point.

Mate this is his third or fourth incident. And let’s me honest driving without a license is a deliberate and know offence. He lost his licence for driving under the influence (if I remember correct) so it shows he doesn’t care for the consequences of his actions so maybe losing his job will help him in life

You’re not just saying this cos he’s provided little value, and you see this as an opportunity to cut him loose are you? ?

If course that comes into it.

Then that immediately disqualifies it then. It shouldn’t matter who it is. Everyone should be treated the same in these cases.

To an extend I agree but unfortunately we both know that’s not now things work. If this was he’s first offence you could give him more work. An employee is always going to be willing to offer additional support to someone who provides more output.

He’s not going to get punted over a minor offence.

You can't punt him over that. It's ridiculous.

If it was an isolated incident i would agree with you but if he continues in getting attention from the police for bad/illegal behaviour there will come a time when he will be seen as being in breach of his contract because he putting the club in disrepute.
I have no idea when that will be but every indiscretion would be getting him closer to that outcome.

He is a moron. You can't sack him for that though. You are right as well in that at some point he will be gone. He doesn't get it does he.

Still I hope he kills it for us.

Madge is desperate to have Musgrave regain the mongrel he showed when at Souths. Charging at the line without fear and getting post contact metres is an area where we lack in.
I would think Sheens would have read the riot act to him regarding his latest indiscretion. (well one would hope)
As he said recently "I'm not afraid to upset people"

The unfortunately reality is that the mad dogs that you want in your team (at least some of your roster), that personality type that makes them a little unhinged, to strike fear into opponents, charge into the line, yearn for contact and collision, have that wild look in the eye, toe the line between legal and illegal... it usually doesn't just turn off when they leave the field.

So if you want the odd fearsome lunatic in your side, unfortunately you need to expect and potentially accept some off-field nonsense (of course there is a clear limit to what is acceptable), and that's not even mentioning the other contributing factors for footballers getting in trouble - ego, money, youth, lack of intellect, being protected and championed your whole life, no experience as a Regular Joe etc.

The handful of players that can be absolute scary monsters on-field, then mostly sensible, reliable humans off-field... they end up becoming legends of the game like Gareth Ellis, Gorden Tallis etc. Maybe even Tallis is a stride to far to say he was sensible and reliable during his playing career.

Kenny Edwards is my poster-boy for "gone too far lunacy". That bloke was completely unhinged and scary for all the right and wrong reasons. If you can stay generally on the positive side of the Kenny Edwards scale, you might be alright.

If Stefano wants success, he can go to the storm.
If he wants money, he can go to the roosters.

If he wants to work hard and build his own legacy, he stays with the Tigers.

Choice is his.
