Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

I see some are saying we don’t have a ball playing lock , well we could have had on in , Nathan brown , hard hitter and a good ball runner and offloader , but for some reason again we failed to seal the deal , had info that it was all done and then we pulled out at the last minute???????

I'm not so sure that they don't care.

I think there are two compounding issues that affected us before a ball was kicked in 2023. The first was the cost to unload Brooks, and the second the belief that AD would come good after a full offseason to partner Brooks who would be awoken from his slumber because he would be playing behind a quality pack of forwards simply stuffed up their assessment of AD and Brooks.

Those two decisions have crippled us for 23; however, are a blessing for 24 (less AD being out for the season). It means:

1. We are in the market for an NRL quality half that can drive us around the park.
2. The $ we saved on Brooks in 23 was spent on developing the forward pack.
3. Most of our deadwood is off contract next season - we have an opportunity to buy in some quality forwards to replace our plodders and some halves and at least a strike centre to compliment Tupou and "touch wood" Bula.

Medically retire AD and I think we are in a great position to recruit the players we need.

Will the players we need come? That is a different story.
Thanks for reply. Yes I was harsh with my language I’m sure they do care and there’s hopefully a method to their madness . Us fans are just frustrated and impatient.

Medically retiring AD would be best for tigers. It’s a horrible scenario of AD.

6. Josh Schuster
7. Jonah Pezet

This is what we should be hunting for with both Brooks & Laurie freeing up about $1.5 million in open salary next year.

I don't believe any report about Pezet telling his manager to not listen to any offers from NRL clubs it doesn't make sense and would be very irresponsible if his manager was to do so - both Munster and Hughes are 28.... he isn't taking there spot for at least 6 years as both have signed long term deals. Also Munster isn't going tp fullback, as all reports suggest Papenhyzen will be back.

I believe maybe he's referring to allowing himself to finish this season in the Melbourne system for the reminder of the year to gain some more experience within that culture than look at exploring his options in 2024 for a full time gig. We should be in his ear now and letting him know the option is there and throw him a good 500-600k deal, similar to what the dogs did with Burton while he was on the fringe of making FG at Penrith and that has worked out pretty good for them.

He's the best up and coming 7 in the league - Sheens and Bellamy have a very good relationship and I believe Craig will speak highly if Pezet was to consult him about the move. On top of that we have Nofa who apparently both parties are happy for a reunion. Whilst as a young half the potential to play under Benji, with the forward pack we have would be encouraging as much as the media are trying to say otherwise.

On the other hand with Schuster, I posted on here about a week ago that I heard Benji wants Schuster badly and will table an offer come November 1st this year. Apparently we're a much better chance than we think as he was a massive Tigers/Benji fan growing up and was close to coming during his last contract negotiations plus Manly have Latu Fainu they're apparently pondering could take Schuster spot in 2 years time - hence the recent contract he signed expiring in 2024 when they believe Fainu will be ready.

Worst case, both Amone and O'sulivan are good back options.

We need to be aggressive.

Believe what you want.

Pezet doesn’t want to leave the Storm & intends to stay longer than his 2yr deal.

If we are dead serious it would take a massive lucrative offer (well over overs) to even make him look away let alone leave which we can’t offer him until after November at best currently.

If it was only money that was the barrier to us attracting players we would have a gun side by now. That's why we need a complete audit/ performance assessment of the club from the top down because until this place starts operating with some freash eyes and accountability for what the real problem is we will keep putting good money after bad.

Gah Forum. King_sirro I have wrapped you in Buttface and I can't undo this...

Now trying to think who is "KS". Katoni Staggs? Brisbane have lost so many in their cap like Fledger and Herbie (Dolphins). I would be surprised if they would tradeout Katoni Staggs, but you never know.

Personally we have hired good defending 5/8's Josh Reynolds comes to mind and look at the trainwreck that was. We need to sort defence though. I don't know how you do it, but we need to sort defence and getting a good organiser is a start.

I would love to do a 1m offer to Jarome Luai.
I would rather a 1m contract out on Luai.

To be fair Bennett started with a clean slate and purchased club combinations as a base; while we have a million dollar anchor tied to us at the same time we're trying to repair a plane that's in flight.
This, there was no baggage to deal with. The total opposite to the Wests Tigers.

It's probably also the only reason I worry about the club picking up any young guns (esp. halves) as I'd be concerned that they'd not be able to withstand the pressure, expectations and any other burdens.
I think someone like Ben Hunt would be great for us though.

We should go all out for a Ben Hunt, Jack Wighton combination.
The dolphins would most likely be trying to sign the same.

Only thing with that is both would be requesting huge money to come here.
We're probably no chance of getting him but would rather hold out and try for Manu.

Sorry but I think that is the wrong way to go , both are getting on in age , we need to pick up a couple of young GOOD 1/2s that can grow with are young kids coming through, no use having them to old farts been there for 2 years than having to replace them . Just my thoughts

Just a thought and suggestion we should throw ash Taylor and reserve grade contract the bloke has plenty of talent

he could just never get it all together Maby spending a year away from footy has brought a desire to succeed back to him

I know he was medically retired but I think warriors and him were both looking for a way out of the contract

Who are these plodders?

I know there is a huge difference between our talent and the Roosters. However, Walker looks set to be dropped to reserve grade due to back to back losses. Our #7 survives over and over again with how many losses? Shows a difference in expectation between a successful club and losertown.
Obviously doesn’t have the No drop clause in his contract that Brooks has !

‘We can have a chat’: Souths coach would ‘love to have’ Wighton as shock play looms

Rabbitohs coach Jason Demetriou has admitted he’d “love to have” Jack Wighton at the club as reports surfaced today that Souths had loomed as a shock threat to sign the Raiders star.
Since Wighton announced he would test the open market, the Raiders and the Dolphins had appeared to be the only two clubs in contention for the 30-year-old’s signature.
But according to the Sydney Morning Herald, it seems that the Rabbitohs will join the race, with Demetriou not exactly denying it in his press conference on Tuesday.

Inexcusable they’ve taken this long to figure the latter out with so many years in the wilderness because of it.
100 percent agree, pretty much was obvious while Madge was here but I gave him the benefit of the doubt and figured he's not useless he's just never had the forward pack. Fast forward to this season, turns out he's just useless
