Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

To be fair Bennett started with a clean slate and purchased club combinations as a base; while we have a million dollar anchor tied to us at the same time we're trying to repair a plane that's in flight.
This, there was no baggage to deal with. The total opposite to the Wests Tigers.

It's probably also the only reason I worry about the club picking up any young guns (esp. halves) as I'd be concerned that they'd not be able to withstand the pressure, expectations and any other burdens.
I think someone like Ben Hunt would be great for us though.

We should go all out for a Ben Hunt, Jack Wighton combination.
The dolphins would most likely be trying to sign the same.

Sorry but I think that is the wrong way to go , both are getting on in age , we need to pick up a couple of young GOOD 1/2s that can grow with are young kids coming through, no use having them to old farts been there for 2 years than having to replace them . Just my thoughts

Just a thought and suggestion we should throw ash Taylor and reserve grade contract the bloke has plenty of talent

he could just never get it all together Maby spending a year away from footy has brought a desire to succeed back to him

I know he was medically retired but I think warriors and him were both looking for a way out of the contract

I'm not so sure that they don't care.

I think there are two compounding issues that affected us before a ball was kicked in 2023. The first was the cost to unload Brooks, and the second the belief that AD would come good after a full offseason to partner Brooks who would be awoken from his slumber because he would be playing behind a quality pack of forwards. They simply stuffed up their assessment of AD and Brooks.

Those two decisions have crippled us for 23; however, are a blessing for 24 (less AD being out for the season). It means:

1. We are in the market for an NRL quality half that can drive us around the park.
2. The $ we saved on Brooks in 23 was spent on developing the forward pack.
3. Most of our deadwood is off contract next season - we have an opportunity to buy in some quality forwards to replace our plodders and some halves and at least a strike centre to compliment Tupou and "touch wood" Bula.

Medically retire AD and I think we are in a great position to recruit the players we need.

Will the players we need come? That is a different story.
Who are these plodders?

I know there is a huge difference between our talent and the Roosters. However, Walker looks set to be dropped to reserve grade due to back to back losses. Our #7 survives over and over again with how many losses? Shows a difference in expectation between a successful club and losertown.
Obviously doesn’t have the No drop clause in his contract that Brooks has !

‘We can have a chat’: Souths coach would ‘love to have’ Wighton as shock play looms

Rabbitohs coach Jason Demetriou has admitted he’d “love to have” Jack Wighton at the club as reports surfaced today that Souths had loomed as a shock threat to sign the Raiders star.
Since Wighton announced he would test the open market, the Raiders and the Dolphins had appeared to be the only two clubs in contention for the 30-year-old’s signature.
But according to the Sydney Morning Herald, it seems that the Rabbitohs will join the race, with Demetriou not exactly denying it in his press conference on Tuesday.

He is done. Has alot of distractions. No thanks.

Well he’s indigenous for a start, that always helps at Souths. Plus he’s related to
Latrell Mitchell, that’s 2.
He’d probably play centre if he went there, that’s 3.
Yeah but who are you dropping To for him in at centre? They are already so stacked

Issiah tass has been great and so has graham I don’t see why they would drop 1 of to get whighton in who would be worth twice as much as both of them combined

So on the latest podcast Chris Warren confirmed that Buzz made up the story about Dodd being warned off the Tigers by the boss of St. Helens.
Warren apparently knows the bloke so gave him a call and he said he'd never even talked to Dodd about it. So it's all a Buzz load of bitter bullshizer.
One day some of you blokes will learn not to believe salty journos.

I didn't read the article but wasn't the guy quoted? If so and the quotes were made up surely that's not allowed right? How can you blame people for believing him when he directly quotes the guy, thats some next level bullshitting method

See your point F but Wighton is an Australian Test player so usually clubs can find a spot for those sort of guys.
Anyway, at the moment it’s all speculation so let’s see what evolves in the coming weeks/months.

So do the club just laugh it off or should we really put heat on Buzz via NRL and make him accountable for that behaviour.
If proven correct, I think it’s got to be at least 8-10 weeks suspension from both the DT and 360.
Get Brydens on the job !!!
