Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

To be fair Bennett started with a clean slate and purchased club combinations as a base; while we have a million dollar anchor tied to us at the same time we're trying to repair a plane that's in flight.

AD wasn't the saviour he was expected to be by the club (and his supporters) and Brooks has not magically improved behind a good pack (as many predicted). They either backed the wrong horse in the AD/Brooks combo behind the pack we purchased or they were being mindful of the cap. Either way we are in a shit state.

I expect that the driver for this year was to protect the cap and give us plenty of flexibility to recruit for 24. Had AD not been injured I think that his extension would have been a good move - he provides depth and utility. He may also have shown that he was capable of being developed into a quality 6. Unfortunately that failed so as we don't have contracts for many of our backline going forward the writing is on the wall for the 24 plans.

Not reading too much into Sheens' comments - I expect the three years means:

23 - build the pack, assess Brooks/AD as halves and experiment with the backline to unearth talent.
24 - adjust the pack (shed off contract deadwood) and build the backline. 24 is to develop experience and grow combinations. May jag a top 8 finish.
25 - first real chance at cracking the 8.
Agree with a number of things you are saying there apart from the part about extending Doueihi.

I don't think that extending Doueihi before a single game was even played was a smart move even if he didn't get injured.

I don't know what goes on in the background but I certainly wasn't aware of any other team wanting to sign him in the off season that would have caused us to make a panic one year contract extension.

I think that Sheens has alluded all along that this next couple of years was all about setting this team up for Benji in 2025.

The biggest problem is with us, the supporters, who every year during the off season go out of our way to find reasons and excuses for this team and convince ourselves that the coming season will be a better one and some of us are so delusional that we believe we can play finals footy.

Yep, and Walker is a great goalkicker as well, our half has had numerous sub standard games over 10 years but he is first picked week after week, and yes walker made a couple of errors in the last couple of games, but how many games has he contributed in winning, on the other side of things in 10 years how many games has Brooks won games for us, a field goal last year? Its been a while.

Make walker an offer.
keary is one headknock away from retirement they will not let Walker go, look at the last 7 Roosters let go he is doing well in flannagan. if you can't make it work in two Roosters system you sure as hell will not make it work at wests tigers system

Brooks is better than Walker. Wouldn’t surprise me if he signed with chooks.
Walker is way better. Not defensively but attacking. His short kicking game is nearly the best in the NRL. His passing is great. Just his defence and his long kicking game isn't up tonsvratch

Brooks has kicked more 40/20s and more FDOs than Walker this season. Walker has clocked up more metres with his 67 long kicks than Brooks has with his 23, I think it’s because Doueihi is taking the long kicks for us?
Anyhoo, I know who I would want in my team.

We need to find a spine including a 13 and stick with them.

NO. JUST NO. Honestly only tigers supporters would settle for this. When do you ever hear about cleary, teddy, Cam smith ect battling attitude and weight issues. They are full time highly paid professional athletes they have all the high performance and Nutritional support money can buy, if they are having these issues 10 years into a career thats attitude. We dont need these kind of players did we learn nothing from joey leilua honestly

We'd be on the cusp of making the finals now if we'd kept Hasting and let Brooks go instead.

Our pack is playing as well as any in the comp. Backline is doing it's job. Api has been great. Even Staines showed promise at 1 (of course he gets moved immediately by our genius coach). It's just the halves at this point really holding us back.

Get a genuine halfback and we're pushing, if not making the top 8. Get a quality halves pairing and this team is absolutely good enough to make it.

What a pussy look. The other players must have been laughing at him coz all the fans were.

The only redeeming thing about him leaving Wests was it completely torpedoed his rep career. Still got reasonable money for years at Cronulla after being moved on by the Dogs but if he had any aspirations to continue on with his International and SOO career it basically blew up after he left us.

NSW Cup contract. Would be a bench hooker in NSW Cup, no impact on Top 30 and not worth getting worked up about.
I think it is a top 30 as the article mentions he will be putting pressure on jake for the back up hooker role

“He will start his second coming at the Tigers in the NSW Cup but is expected to put pressure on Simpkin for the back-up hooking role as the season unfolds.”
