Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

He plays 80 mins a week in cup and by attrition and rep duties plays a few games a year when Api is unavailable
Not forgetting we still have Jake Simpkin who I think surprised some people and played some real good minutes for us late last season.
He has transformed himself into playing as a 13 when required to add versatility to his game.
If we use Fainu or Sullivan as our NRL 14, it would mean Da Silva and Simpkin would be sharing the 9 role in NSW Cup.
Competition for spots will hopefully push a lot of these young players to great heights in 2024.

Fainu, Galvin and TDS are all great prospects but are still young kids with only one having played in the top grade. They will play firsts over the next few years but won't cement positions for a few years, by that time our older boys will be wrapping up with these young 18 year old boys hitting their straps. Fantastic succession planning for the future! The club hasn't looked this good for the next 10 years in a long time.

FWIW I am a big fan of TDS but don't think it helps team balance him being on the bench and playing 10 minutes. His development is better served playing 80 mins a week against men in Cup

Simpkins played 18 games last season and TDS 5 … so we will see if Benji changes the approach this year … lot of people were saying that he was actually picking the teams in 2023… like I said … time will tell

I've watched Sezer the last couple of years in Super League.
He really doesn't do much. He's a steadying influence with a decent kicking game.
If Sullivan proves himself and looks comfortable I can see him taking over the show after about 10 rounds.
But he can set up the players around him, so hopefully our guys wake up to that and exploit the gaps. That alone would justify his contract.
I always thought that Sullivan would benefit from that as well.

Nothing wrong with giving the young guys one to two years in reserves to grow into their bodies, bed down their games, play 80 minutes a week and play against men.

We’ve done all the hard work in pathways. It would be a real shame to ruin the first couple of products due to impatience.

2023 - brooks, AD, Wakeham, smith
2024 - Sezer , Sullivan, fanu, Galvin, AD (maybe - subject recovery)
2025 - Luai, Sullivan, Galvin, fanu

We have roughly 4 halves each year, just new and improved on 2023, hardly too many halves (maybe just to much money tied up 🤷)

Only issue could be Fulton. He needs to be managed or I could see a time where he leaves us really bitter and tries to get back at the club by poaching Fainu or Galvin to another club.

My takeaways from Richo interview:
* Luai didn’t sign a contract with us until last night, he informed the media he will do a press conference at 10am ish (before club sent announcement out)
* Richo son is best mates with Ciraldo and up until last night didn’t know if he was coming or heading to bulldogs.
* roster and staff changes to be announced over next 7 days.
* mentioned development spot free that needs to be filled
* subtle hint re Fainu and Galvin as 5/8ths mention both as superstars, interesting that Sullivan was an after thought
* Richo focus is governance and structure to simplify/manage over next 60 days get it going before season starts to take pressure off the footy side.
* did mention changes to happen on pathways, development side
* Richo isn’t comfortable with the balance of the roster next 12mths will be of focus to mould it into something for next 2-3 years, he did point out this year we need to win games.
* expect changes in our media area, he made specific mention on that.
* when asked about expectations for this year he didn’t set one, took total pressure off the coach/team on this one

Its really refreshing to hear a proper CEO lead us he just controls the media brilliantly and they listen/respect him.

It’s early days, people talk about players and coaches being the best signings a club makes to win more but Richo could very well be our best.
Good to hear our media area is being looked at. We've dropped off massively since Talintyre left.

There were rumours coming out of super league that Sezer's body was busted. I will be keen to see if he can stay on the field

Is he ready yet? Why rush him?
For mine, he will get experience during the year when Api misses games…which he most definitely will.
Until then, he has heaps to work on in Cup.

I agree with this. No need to rush him.

Sezer & Sullo as the starting halves in '24 with AD lucky if he plays 9 or 10 games. My guess is he will play in the centres. The 2 young guns will get a run at some stage (depending on injury & form). We will surprise a few teams & I am very excited about our 2024 prospects.
