Aussie cricket team has moved to a more family focus in recent years. At the end of the day NRL is a results based business and Benji will be judged on that, I’m open to his method and we can judge him over the next 12-18 months as he is starting to get a roster that probably demands a rise up the ladder.

Contracts run 1st Nov to 31st Oct. Warrington footed some of last season’s contract but Tigers would be paying him again since 1st Nov. Under the RLPA agreement a player is due back to training depending on their age, off season rep duties, etc.

The longer he is on our books the less of his residual contract would have to be picked up by another team if he moved. Say he swapped teams on 1st Jan, Tigers would’ve already paid 1/6 of his salary. Thinking about that it means a player has already got 1/3 of his yearly salary before the season actually kicks off with Rd 1.

Yep. It clearly has not hurt our recruitment of players and it is a very nice change. Clubs, including ours, have let a lot of domestic stuff slide since forever. Look at the sadness in the private lives of Tristan Sailor, Sam Burgess, Hayne and Kurtley Beale. Benji is right that the real pressure is at home.

Seems to me Benji has more of a messaging issue than anything.

Family first doesn't mean you don't turn up early or stay late. It just means setting some boundaries around it so it doesn't consume you and your family isn't always the last thought.

A lot of the guys have turned up early to training when it was their time off. Assuming this could be family time, yet they are still there.

I actually think Benji just means being home to have dinner as a family and help around the house with chores / homework whatever before the kids go to bed.

I'm sure once the wife dozes off, he gets a few things in for the next day.

With the team we have now, half a season will tell us where we are and where the problems lie. Until then, we should enjoy what's to come.

I think that is the best we can field in round 1, not a bad line up IMO. Short a good back rower. Seyfarth can do the job in the interim

Yes. Thats the exact team list I have! My only concern is whether Turuva and Skelton end up on the right edge together. Defensively that could be a worry.

My opinion is that family is family, work is work. Benji is at press conference for work. He’s all about boundaries (ie going on holidays with family, keeping work at work etc) yet he’s bringing his family into work.

Fair enough. I know his internatiol duties gives hime time but His manager Moses specifically said Bateman has commitments with the loan club,(off field club commitments. If we are paying his tab then he should have nothing to do with that club from Nov 1 as you said.

Benji played under Bennett and I think he would have learned a lot under Bennett.

I don't know if Wayne throws players under the bus. He would probably have too, I mean how many Rugby league Ex players can you talk too with his history.

Benji wants to make a Tigers family or close knit group. It's going to be hard.
Starting with Luai isn't bad, but quite a few family members were going to have to reject soon. Going to be tough.

Yea I am liking how we are looking.

I would give Staines that wing spot over Laulili, but a definate backline upgrade due to Bird and Turuva being available.

Really need someone else to partner S Fainu in the second row, that's our main gap. I don't know if Jack Bird is up to the task. Yes he has the speed and the movement to do it, but he normally plays 6 and for a 5/8 he is physical, for a second rower he is light on.

I would put Seyfarth on the bench and Pole at Lock. I would then use Seyfarth as a fill-in for Bird/Fainu. Just unsure how we are going to carry 2 props, a second rower, a hooker and Latu on the bench.
