Remember back in the 80s, clubs would hire coaches from outside, but heaps of others would promote from within their own club. The coaches would work their way up from the lower grades. Don't see that anymore ever since the game went full time professional.

You sure about that?, memories can get clouded over a decade.

Dwyer was appointed NRL Video Analyst and Coaching Consultant at Wests Tigers in January 2012*.

In that 2014 Foxsports article made after the McKinnon injury Dwyer spoke about how no one from the NRL had ever contacted him since his injury and in his own words about the RLPA "Ah, I'm not even sure what they do" and "seem a waste of time".

Appears from that article Dwyer wasn't impressed with the NRL or RLPA but claimed he has always been grateful to the WT for the position in 2012.

I got my wires crossed I think. I think his gripe might have been with the NRL. I know there definitely was a story to it. I remember there being a fundraiser for him not long after the story. Still doesn’t change the fact idk wtf this guy is going on about how what i said is a poor reflection on those working for the club in 2024.

The RLPA is a stain on the game. Other unions give a little in negotiations but this lot jumps on anything and backs the player 100% even though it's a 50/50 issue. Yes I understand that's why it was started and they have done some good things like minimum wages and more time off in offseason but that Clint Newton likes the sound of his own voice and acts worse then a Canberra politician. Some of the stuff they come out with is ridiculous and will hurt the game. The RLPA and the game managers love the status quo as it it. No draught, no timeslots for trades. Just more money and power.

The RLPA are also complicit in salary cap cheating. What association would take a stand that would lead to their members earning less money, be it legal or illegal?

There is no desire by the players, RLPA, and managers to ensure salary cap compliance. Same for the clubs that are happy to get involved with some underhanded payments. Then there is the NRL. They definitely don’t want a scandal and only act when they must - they wouldn’t want anything that interferes with more revenue. The only people that suffer from salary cap cheating are the clubs who don’t do it and the fans of those clubs.

Because TV ratings are always going up, nothing will be done about it. I think in about 10 to 15 years when AFL and soccer have a bigger viewing audience (most kids these days seem to play these sports) the NRL will need to ensure a very level playing field to attract as many eyeballs as possible. Maybe then they will get serious about it.
