Making players understand that wanting overs means we cannot build a competitive squad around them is the hard part.
I’m a big Galvin fan and desperately want him to remain a Wests Tigers player long term, but I nearly fell off my seat when reading reports about him potentially being re-signed for 1.2 million per season.
Matt Burton is reportedly earning 800k per season, how can Galvin be worth more than him at this stage of their careers ?
Surely it’s a bluff from his manager as I can’t see any other clubs paying more than 800k per season for Galvin at this stage of his career.
Similar with Luai, we signed him for 1.2 million per season in good faith when no other club would pay it. He is not worth any more and surely he knows it would be impossible to have a decent team with him if we did go any higher.
Then we have the issue with keeping Latu Fainu happy and keeping his brothers happy at the same time.
It would appear all 3 are on more than fair contract money, but is the big contract value alone enough to keep Latu happy if he is not a regular in our top 17 ?
I get the feeling he will become unhappy if left out of our NRL top 17 for too long, but the question is how do we fit him in and does he realise he needs to kick the door down by dominating at NSW Cuo level when selected for that team. I don’t think there are any other players being paid 500k while playing NSW Cup, so he needs to be the best player in that competition.
