Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

I can't put my finger on it but there is something not right within the playing group. Not sure if it is the grind taking effect or a split in the group themselves. Line speed has dropped off, the scramble has dropped off and the coordination is lacking.

Surely nobody thinks that we train to have Bird, or any other numptie, at first receiver on the fifth. So how or why is the assignment being missed? Does Galvin have the primary kicking role but is struggling to execute it under pressure at NRL level?

We have players and coaching staff that understand what is required - and seriously it isn't that hard to show on a whiteboard or out on the training paddock. There is also no doubt in my mind that Benji and Co are capable of developing a simple game plan to focus our strenghts against a perceived oppostion weakness. So what is happening between the Captain's run and game time?

My gut feel is that we play much straighter in attack on the training paddock and our lateral running is resulting in players being out of postion, or assignments being missed. There is clearly an execution issue - it would be great to get to training and spend time watching how the Captain's run goes down and compare it to what is being executed so we can figure out where the issue lies.

Anyone in a postion to spy for the forum?
i think Benji has already indicated that the players arent bringing their training to games.

If hes satisfied they are capable of playing well but not delivering then we are having communication issues.

We spoke about this last year and who his influences were. I wanted to engage a Neil Henry or a big time retired coach to help him.

I am wondering if he bringing the right people to the table in a consultative capacity?

Im sure his effort is 100% but is it going where it should?

As i said about the review, very few people are going to own up or be accountable. Thats how these things roll.

It was alarming how much we wanted to shift early in the wet last night. Cleary a wrong tactic. Could be coaching but to me it points to an admission we are too small in the pigs. Need to recruit some animals.

Do we want Bud Sullivan back next year
He's on our books and on loan to Souths
Just a question I'm posing
No as it’s too much of the same.
Sullivan is predominantly a running 5/8 as is Luai as is Latu Fainu and we also have Heath Mason who can potentially cover that role.
Geez it would be nice to have a controlling halfback who knows how to straighten the attack and has a decent kicking game.

Yes, that makes sense. Paraphrasing Mr Tsu:

Gameday tactics are like unto water, for water, in its natural course, runs away from high places, and hastens downwards. So, in developing the game plan, the way is to avoid what is strong, and to strike at what is weak.

Water shapes its course according to the nature of the ground over which it flows. The captain works out his victory in relation to the foe in which he is facing. Therefore, just as water retains no constant shape, so during play, there are no constant conditions.

He who can modify his tactics in relation to his opponent, and thereby succeed in winning, may be called a Heaven-born Captain."

Is it lack of size or is it lack of physicality within our forward pack ?
We have a few good workers in our forward pack led by Terrell May, but aside from Pole and Hunt during his 20-25 minute cameo each week, we don’t have anyone who regularly runs the ball powerfully and puts fear into our opponents.
Samuela Fainu was showing signs of being that player last season, but his running threat has been very minimal so far this season.
Although size and power always helps, we really need a couple of forwards who run the ball at speed and aggressively aka the likes of Liam Martin, Hudson Young, Jacob Preston, Briton Nikora, Dylan Lucas etc.
There is not anyone standing out that fits this description and could be available to sign, so I think we need to take a risk on one or two lesser known players who have converted from being a centre into a back rower, similar to how the Knoghts unearthed Dylan Lucas.

Big call to replace Sexton with Galvin at the moment, I can actually see it really disrupting what they’ve built.
I don’t think they will. I reckon he will be put back a peg for the rest of the year and get his development he has always wanted. I think if he leaves over this next week he is playing cup or Flegg for the remainder of the year.

Exactly . But that’s not what this whole “Seyfarth fan club “ post was about . It was the same guy, who drove a lot of the “Brooks fan club / cult” narrative around here .
Well you see Luke Brooks is the best player ever. Not only is he handsome but he is good at cooking on barbecues. His best play is the no look pass to the second rower who gets smashed. Second only to the grubber that hits the back fence. These two signature plays saw him win Dally M Halfback of the Year and multiple Kelly Barnes medals. The fact he no longer lines up in our colours is a travesty. It was the only reason we won the wooden spoon last year.

The issue is a lack of explosiveness or in other words leg speed. Early in the season Skelton was enormous in a few games. May, while a goer, is a bit one paced. Pole was obviously out but he likes to stop and shimmy at the line. You don’t get much out of Twaly, Seyfarth or Sam Fainu in go forward. Our centres are really poor in yardage sets especially AD. If To’o was available I’d move heaven and earth to sign him, he does the job of two players when he’s in form.
