Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

Chammas mentioned on the WT Life podcast tonight that Tallyn’s agent is asking for $600k in ‘27 for an extension. Maybe it’s a starting point in negotiations. IMO don’t think Richo would go for that if Api extends.

People will be angry at his “entitlement” no doubt …even though the Fainu”s asked for and got $550k a year for 4 years as 19 yr olds before playing an NRL game…

Money has changed significantly from 10-15 years ago. Remember the Blair saga? That thread went on forever before he was finally announced, and the figure bandied about was always 500k. Today that’s probably Alex Seyfarth money. But at the time, was an exorbitant figure, especially for a back rower. In 2025, KPP will probably be on around 600-650, and he has nowhere the reputation Blair had.

But hes not starting....Cook is
I also think this whole thing shows a massive Culture/Attitude problem.

Players need to take pride and respect that they are given an opportunity. The whole "do I start, or am I relegated to the Bench" is BS.

Heck I would love to play off the bench, people notice you come on. You play fresh against tired players.

I get not being picked, I don't get this. Heck if your performing it should be no difference in $$$

They are also talking about 50 percent increase in the Broadcast deal which begins in 2028… you can expect the salary cap to rise in proportion

So basically you want to throw away a kid ( local junior) you have developed and touted a few years now, who might be here another 10:years …all to get 2 more years out of a 34 yr old
100%, bye TDS.

We have developed our local juniors and when we give someone a start and offer for them to stay, on good coin... If they now want to walk. Stuff them.

Api is the heart of the team.

I really struggle to get my head around a player like Hunt who has chosen to be a professional NRL player and get very well paid. NRL careers are only short.
How can he not lose weight, get himself fit and really should be able to play nearly 80 minutes once a week. It is solely his issue, is it the WT coaching and support crew for not giving him the resources or a combination of both. Every player who puts on an NRL jersey should play with passion and pride and do whatever it takes legally to be able to perform week in week out, if not go get a job in the real world.

In hindsight… his comments about thinking of retirement last season before signing the deal for three years should have had the alarm bells ringing …. I suspect his next off season training program will be extensive

Reality is $1m player at some stage next 5 or so years will be half of the starting 13 squad members.

500-600k is now the norm for the nrl lockins to plus potential option players.

Soon at least half of the top 13 will be $1m+ players if the NRL get their way (new deal, expansion and squad number reduction to 22-26 without cap impacts etc).

If we want to be the premier sport in Australia then players are gonna get paid and need to remove competition of $$ externally out of the equation.

Needs to be a team first attitude instead of kicking stones.

It’s negotiations, so if the agent is asking for 600k you would assume the number they’re willing to settle on/take would actually be around the 550-500k mark.

Cap will be even more in 2027 and there will be an extra 12million in the league with the Bears around. 500-550k is a more than fair price given the market, cap and his progression into the starting role by then.

Too many young kids coming through seeing what NFL and NBA salaries dictate...
Not quite the same arena, however.
Galvin example also making a mockery of contracts. Managers using agitation tactics... Ect.
Gone are the days of pride in the club and your area...
