Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

ADs defence was atrocious… but he improved it … Sloan can improve it too depending mostly on his mindset …key word being “can” and I would be reluctant to be relying on that now

One thing that he has that can’t be improved upon is speed … ask AD about that …
I think what he’s missing is dedication.

TDS to follow Galvin to the Bulldogs it seems.

I don’t care what anyone says but this is the wrong decision to let this kid walk.
Well your handle is Teddy23, so I can't exactly argue.

But Teddy did walk and I think we offered him one of the most expensive NRL contracts at the time at 1.2M.

TDS is walking. He isn't a good tackler, can attack though. For the Dogs he would be a downgrade on Reed Mahoney.

What can you do when a gun is held to your head? Keep him and have him pout, tank and create disharmony? I don't like seeing talent leave either but we need to eliminate the me first type person this club seems to have recruited over its existence.
Gun to the head...

Unconventional. But probably a more effective player retention strategy then the one we have now.

Why not loan to manly for 18 months. Manly get a good hooker until Ashton Large is ready & Tigers get a player developing in 1st grade who comes back a way better player ready to take over. Seems like a win for everybody, that is under the assumption he does want to be a Tiger long term
Not bad.

Onitoni would be spewing. Manly are as much of a rabble and he is stuck behind the immortal Brooksy and Fogarty incoming.

Telling TDS to wait 3-4 years to get a starting spot when he could walk straight into a first grade team right now and call it selfish for him wanting to leave after his contract EXPIRES just isn’t fair and completely biased for us fans to think that.

TDS has made it very clear…. he’s happy for the next 18 months to work under Api and grow into the position then hopefully take over in 2027 when API’s contact expires at 34-35.

Don’t see a problem with that… the kid wants to stay but wants a chance to play. The club coming first want him as the starting 9 and he still made it clear he prefers stay with us if we can give him the chance to play in 2027. Absolutely crazy for us to blame Tallyn or shame him for wanting that.

The last few games he has played he looked excellent and very comfortable within the top grade, so much so that up to 4 clubs are already circling trying to get him NOW and more clubs are expected to come to the party. I think it’s quite obvious in 2027 he’ll be ready to be a starting 9 in the NRL. If I’m being honest, he’s ready now for the NRL.

So I really hope us as fans don’t blame TDS for this request as it’s completely reasonable, we as a club made the decision to prioritise Api. I love Api and I personally think he’s been our best signing this last decade, but he’ll also be 34. Picking a 34 year old to try squeeze 1-2 more years of him instead of a junior who will look more than ready to take over in 2027 that could be our long term option for the next 15 years makes me scratch my head.

He’s willing to wait 1.5 years instead of going the Galvin route and forcing himself out as he knows he could get a starting spot next week at an NRL club. Expecting him to wait longer than the 18 months and risk himself getting injured and derailing his career doesn’t make sense for himself.

I think how Tallyn has handled this is perfect - he has made it clear he wants to stay and wants a chance to play allowing the club to make a decision between himself or Api and it seems like we made the wrong one if you ask me.
Ever heard of the concept of having to earn your position?

Exactly.. also , Benji really should not be making the call on signings for beyond 27..

Thats bonkers. Do you want our squad to improve?

So the coach who the club has backed should only be focusing on 26. I get people are upset at the prospect of losing TDS but that is an massive over reaction.

To put it into perspective that limits at least 90% of players who could be on the market, we would sign no one of quality.

No NRL quality player will sign without having interactions with the coach through the process.

I like that he's allowed to go to market to see what offers he can get. Like Richo said we don't have to release him.

Rumour is we've offered $550k a year for 3 years (assuming it's after his current contract so new contract ends 2029)

Api wants 2 more years taking him to end of 2028.

Let's say TDS gets an offer of $600k a year from a rival, nothing stopping us from upping to $650k and then loaning him to that team for 2026 and 2027.

TDS gets paid more, but most of the money gets paid from another team's cap while he develops.

2028 TDS returns as a 22/23 year old and starts with Api on the bench.

Obviously a pipedream but could be doable.

He shouldn't be making decisions on emotion, which he is clearly doing with Api.

When Penrith had gun juniors coming through, they let go of Moylan, RCG and Waqa Blake to develop and bring those players through. That crop went on to win 4 premierships in a row.

Recently the Roosters have let go of players like Manu, Tupouniua, JWH and May so they can bring through Toia, Foketi, Steep etc. While that decision may not be the best for them this season, you can already see it was a good long term decision with Toia already a rep player and Foketi and Steep looking like gun players.

Benji is playing with fire here and while it may be whats best for the next two years, it could cost us 8 years after that. Richo should not have taken a backwards step from Benji on this one.

Why hasn't he earned it? He has been in the first grade set up for 3 years now, and when he has played NSW cup this year he's been one of the three best players everytime. His form is better than some others in our first grade squad and has been for some time.

Hes not asking to be the starting 9 this year or even next, he wants it for 2027. He has other clubs offering a starting 9 role now and hes still even willing to wait till 2027. That shows more than anything that he is loyal to the club and is willing to earn his spot.

If Api re-signs for 2 years, that will mean he will spend the first 6 years of a short career as a back up... That would seriously hurt his career, earning ability, rep opportunities and chances at creating legacy. What TDS is asking for isn't unreasonable at all.
