Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

I dont know why it is but this season has been odd with many teams getting a good lead and then run down....the late season Titans and Cowboys games piss us all off but it hasnt just been us thats not been able to deal with huge momentum swings...as i said i cant put my finger on it but im sure the NRL love it....is it refs managing the games...6 to goes etc?
Its a major area Benji needs to address along with others we are all aware of like line speed....wrestle...attack in the red zone etc.
Benjis had gradual improvement the last few years even though its blurry when he first really began...but the last couple of years have seen some slow improvement with some key new recruits...more than we can say of Madge who just got worse and worse.
To state the obvious a big year next year

What a stupid comment to say … seriously you say some dumb shit …
This club is going places everyone can see it . Are you ever positive? And you had the audacity to imply I was out of touch and being a prick when I suggested your perennially depressed.
Cronk hates the club.

Unfortunately the mixed performances of the side have left an enormous vaccuum for people to spout inane reasons as to why they havent performed. E.g. Benji too close to the players, too many polynesians

Lets hope Benji nails a few recruits and underpeforming players and young guys perform to their potential next year.

I know i'm keeping a few receipts from some of the stuff thrown around on here...

It’s impossible to engage with someone who counters with ridiculous hypotheticals. Why do you insist on using two of the best coaches of the modern era in response to a conversation about a rookie with no runs on the board. Give you a tip. Neither of those coaches will ever be sacked. They will get the rare chance to walk away on their terms. Something Benji will most likely not have.
Go back to your original argument that Benji is too close to the players.

The point that others are making that Cleary initially at Penrith was coaching his son, his daughter’s partner and many of his son’s friends. This was before they had had any success.

Hindsight is wonderful and yes they have won 4 grand finals since. Doesn’t this prove that being close to your players isn’t necessarily a bad thing?

Does Benji have a mentor? He is still fairly new to coaching and having a “go to” for him to bounce ideas off would be invaluable at this stage of his coaching development.
I don’t think Sheens is on speaking terms with the club so kind of rules him out.
Last thing I heard was that Benji and Bennett were close and he was a sounding board for Benji early on

Cleary also has 15 years more Life experience and more than a decode more coaching experience coming into his Position.
I also think coaching your son is a totally different Dynamic to coaching a mate

Cleary Jnr is also an exceptional student - We don't have one of those in our squad.
- the 2 situations are not comparable.

💯
A coach being close to his players can be a huge positive, but there is a fine line in potentially becoming too loyal to some who may not be performing up to their contract value.
For the record I don’t think Benji coaching us is our problem.
Getting the right playing roster with the right balance is the problem and we are not far away, only 1-3 good to high quality players short,

So as long as the player you are too close to is exceptional. Ok

Cleary jumped at the first opportunity - he knew what he was going back to and what he was leaving.
Benji can't be compared to Cleary on any level and neither can the state of the clubs that they are employed by.
