Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

Whilst a lot of our NRL team will benefit from not playing the RLWC (i.e injury rehab for some, full pre-season for others), I think the RLWC will be great benefit for these guys …

Latu Fainu (Tonga, hopefully 5/8)
Solomone Saukuru (Fiji)
Josese Lanyon (Fiji)
Tony Sukkar (Lebanon)
Glassie Glassie (Cook Islands)

Great experience, environment, hopefully plenty of game time & (for Latu) reps in the halves ahead of 2027.
Really hoping that Wolfe uses Latu at 5/8 and not just a backup hooker. If you look at the Tongan squad you would think he has to be 5/8. Really looking forward to seeing Latu combine with I. Katoa. Got to say not overly interested in the WC just want the Tiger boys to do well for their respective countries.

Latu or Junior Amone you would think for 6

The thing is though, do you think clubs who chase Sam will be prepared to bend over? Do you think the Roosters or the Storm would say “Sure, we’ll sign your thug brother who has never admitted his guilt, if that’s what it takes to get you.” No goddamn way. Sam and Latu presenting themselves as a package deal is one thing as they are genuine first graders. Having to include their interloper brother, who has not only not played for 6 or 7 years, but been in jail is something only the most desperate club would even consider.
They don't have to - if they weigh up the pros and cons - because of their ability to attract and retain other quality players. WTs made their bed they now have to in it lie it. We are the most desperate team in the competition next to the Bears and retaining is always preferable/ feasible than attracting when you are in that position.

Lol
Maybe its who we grew up watching.
Sterling was before my time. Ricky and Langer were the first ones I was really exposed to. Used to absolute love ricky with his long balls and kicking game.. but I thought joey took it to another level. I recall weeks he was injured and the knights lose by 50... he would return the following week and theyd win by 20.. the influence he had on those Newcastle teams was like what you see with a 6 foot 90kg kid in under 9s
Yep
Agree with you there all of us grow up and watching the best players in their time and compare others that come after them to who we thought were the benchmark.
It’s why I don’t like the idea of immortals
as it all comes down to individual opinions.
And at my age I always go back to the saying
“The older I get the better I was”

Ding ding ding!

They signed Dominic Young’s brother to get him to go there just to play RMC

I had a look through the Tongan squad and they have no back-up hooker for Soni Luke so unfortunately it looks like Latu will be the bench utility imo. What a crock!

Sure, if Manase comes back, he’ll have to go through the Cup first. I’m just not sure why you’d want to give someone with his violent history a contract, but what do I know?

Tyrone is still just a rumour that started back in May, with talk that all the brothers want to reunite.

That could potentially mean seven players from just two families in our club.

Absolutely nuts.

Why is it nuts if they are great footballers? They arent token signings.

Latrells brother is a token signing for aouths.

Our lads can play

Not so sure the Roosters wouldn’t sign him. They signed Zane Tetevano.

And retained Jake Friend.
Those guys weren’t in jail for years though. The point isn’t just what they did, but where their life has been for the last few years. There were calls to sign him before he even had gotten out of jail. No wait and see how he adjusts to life on the outside again and seeing if he’s doing something productive. It was “we need to sign him” while he was still living in a six by six.
