Yeah I saw that first article last year, and it's an awesome commitment to sports medicine, physiotherapy and player welfare through education at WSU.
However I'm worried that there's not enough of a balance between the inner West/Ryde area and the South West. A lot of our inner Wests juniors are being recruited by Souths, the Dogs and Parra.
There was an article in the Telegraph about this -
" Amidst the broader boardroom fractures of the Wests Tigers, the club’s Inner West junior development system is facing a dual crisis of mass player talent drain and heavy structural imbalances compared to their South West counterparts. "
and the Wests Tigers website -
" The Wests Tigers' development pathways are feeling the sting of the modern NRL ecosystem, as a hyper-competitive market has led to a widely discussed "juniors mass exodus". This includes talent tied to their Ryde-Eastwood Hawks partnership. Because the club has an incredibly deep nursery of elite young prospects, rival franchises actively target their pathways. The Tigers cannot keep every rising star they produce under salary cap pressures and squad limits "
This will continue to happen. Schools like Holy Cross, are now focusing on football rather than league, and the AFL is making huge inroads into the South West.
The last article is a PR beat up. It's easy to make up stories after a win.
