Signed with PNGany takers for Hudson Young for a year
No...one year has no commitment to the clubany takers for Hudson Young for a year
Apparently they’re over the cap so they have to shift someoneFogarty and Brooks was a great combo, yet Many want to get rid of one or the other of them. Makes no sense, I know they are looking at Walsh as the future, but he didn’t really impress much when Manly were reeling during the season. Their season literally fell apart when Brooks got injured yet he’s the one they want to get rid of?
We don't want both if the eventuated , reckon Foggety would be better for Javons development AD in a massive hog and made of tissue paperI dont want to offload Adam D.
As far as I can tell, he didn't come out and say it was his team and he was taking ownership. 🤣I didn't see Brooks do anything this year he hasn't done the last 10 years.
Too many turbos $$!Apparently they’re over the cap so they have to shift someone
Nah..Brooks was solid. Results fell away after he was injured, but maybe co incidentalAs far as I can tell, he didn't come out and say it was his team and he was taking ownership. 🤣
be time for Bunjee to best have a plan that compliments the players ,not pigeon hole square pegs into a round holeFogarty is older than I realised so I get the hesitation. That said, for me it’s a no brainer if Manly tip in 250k.
We are lost without an organising 7 that has a long kicking game.
Madden would give Javon support to develop in Cup. AD becomes the extra back on the bench. He’s not a 14
People that want to teach our 5/8s to be halves need to have a quick think on how that has turned out for us since 2006
Latu and Javon are both 5/8s. Both play the same side of the field. Both need to become first grade 5/8s before any thought of turning them into 5/8s.
So many fans struggle to see the impact of an organising half. They yell at the TV about the try scorer missing that the work was done in the setup.
I hope we play it cool and negotiate really hard with Manly but I’m a yes.

I don't think we've seen enough of Fainu or Andrews to suggest they can't be a halfback. But I heard similar talk about Brown can't play as a 7, he was doing fine before his injury as to was Metcalf before his injury last year, Hughes was a fullback, so was Campbell, Hynes was more a 6 in juniors and fullback at Storm. Galvin is not there yet but progressing, though I don't think it will ever be his true position, even Walker left Broncos because coaches at the time thought he wasn't a 7. Half the comp has or is trying to turn someone into 7 that others say is not a 7. Perhaps the best organising 7 of all in Cronk people (imo incorrectly) say was a manufactured 7.Fogarty is older than I realised so I get the hesitation. Absolutely, we gave it a crack, it was probably never realistic but good on Shaun for thinking outside the square. The removal of Paton was not great timing for usGenius details in Wests Tigers’ failed ‘Hail Mary’ poaching play
Michael Carayannis
Wests Tigers should be praised, not mocked, for their Hail Mary play which could have seen Nathan Cleary turn out for the club.
The Tigers shocked many when it was revealed they had formally tabled a $3 million package deal for Cleary and his long-term partner Mary Fowler to entice Cleary to the club in 2028.
Fowler would have been signed by the Central Coast Mariners – with Holman Barnes Group owning both the Tigers and the Mariners.
The pair are both off-contract next year.
What chance did the Tigers have of securing Nathan? Next to nil. Until the Tigers started to think a bit differently.
The idea was the brainchild of Tigers boss Shaun Mielekamp, who in a previous life successfully attracted sprint sensation Usain Bolt to the Mariners.
Mielekamp’s intimate knowledge of soccer in this country helped. Coach Benji Marshall was naturally on board with the club recognising they needed some leadership to help to guide this young team.
Mielekamp started to plot the move about two months ago knowing he couldn’t secure Cleary on his own.
The tipping point was when Fowler returned to Australia to assist with Cleary’s recovery from serious injury.
By November 1 they were ready to pounce.
They had done the work in the background.
Of concern was Fowler’s rich Adidas deal after she inked a $10 million, five-year contract earlier this year.
That deal, the Tigers learnt, had some parameters around playing in a tier-one competition. The A-League Women would see her dip to being a tier-two athlete, which would impact the value of the endorsement.
Mielekamp needed the help of Holman Barnes too, who eventually signed off on making Fowler easily the highest paid domestic women’s soccer player - and potentially the biggest earner across either A-League competition.
The Tigers genuinely believed they were a chance. Even as recently as this week, they were told by Cleary’s camp to put in a formal offer. They did so.
A $3 million a year contract for three years – split between the pair.
It is understood Cleary stood to earn $1.8 million and Fowler would have doubled her current playing salary at Manchester City by signing with the Mariners.
Holman Barnes chief executive Daniel Paton – who sat on the Tigers and Mariners board – signed off on the deal.
His shock removal in recent days would not have helped the situation given he has been stood aside pending an investigation.
There has been angst among some on the Holman Barnes board about the push to help fund soccer programs, with some steadfast of the belief the club should be tipping all its cash into growing rugby league.
While the PNG Chiefs fielded a call on Wednesday that Cleary would not be coming, the Tigers did not. In fact, when they were contacted by Code Sports before the story broke on Friday afternoon, they were still holding out hope.
Unfortunately for them that glimmer ended about an hour after the story appeared online when Cleary’s camp formally rejected their offer.
He will now re-sign with Penrith for at least two more seasons.
And the Tigers hunt for premiership credentials goes on. And aiming high isn’t something which should be ridiculed. In fact, the Tigers should be applauded.
Cronk was an undersize center ready to be placed on the scrap heap until Matty Johns did some work with the teamI don't think we've seen enough of Fainu or Andrews to suggest they can't be a halfback. Why can't Fainu and/or Andrews learn the craft?
Don't think AD will be dodging gravity under the rope mate, have the feeling he's going to start in the halves, gutless from the club I know. We’d be insane not to have a crack at Fogarty! He’s basically a rich mans Jock Madden, does everything that Madden does but better. You don't choose a career backup over an experienced first grader with a skill set our team desperately needs.
A halves pairing of Latu/Javon at 6, and Fogarty at 7 is perfect for the next 1-2 years and lines up with when Katoa would be available. Madden can play in Cup where he belongs.
As for AD, he can either accept his role as a bench utility/transition to lock, or he can go piss up a rope. He lost his influence the moment he refused to play.
It’s a hard decision because in theory an ageing Jamal Fogarty is still the experienced onfield talker and dominant halfback we need, but we already lack genuine strike, speed and tackle break ability and he certainly doesn’t help with that and he is reliant on having these types of players to feed the ball to.Fogarty ,Madden are just another Wakheman , not a game breaker ,but good at the technical points of their trade
