Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

Anyone have any info regarding that weve tabled an offer to brenton lawrence? We need a experienced prop on the bench for a couple years while our young guys transition. Would be a great addition off the bench..

**Front Row Forwards 2018**
- Russell Packer
- Ben Matulino
- Alex Twal
- JJ Felise
- Jesse Sue

**Backrowers 2018**
- Michael Chee Kam
- Josh Aloiai
- Chris McQueen
- Chris Lawrence
- Esan Marsters
- Elijah Taylor (Option)

Definitely need to add for 2018 - NRL standard backrower and prop at minimum

I reckon Luke Lewis would be a really good acquisition for a year or two. Provides more experience, still an NRL level backrower and buys us time to find the right guy to take over long term…

I think now it's better to look at the forwards as middle or edge players. Aloiai to me seems better in the middle. ET is better in the middle as well but I think he is a small middle forward as most locks are now basically props.

I think our pack now looks solid assuming ET stays with the club but we need an impact forward. There are so few of those players out there but if we just got one then we would be looking really good for next season. I don't think Lewis or Thompson would add much to the team at this point.

Id still go for brenton lawrence.

At this stage id have next year.

11\. mcqueen
12.ET
13\. Aloioia
After 30 minutes Id put move ET to lock and put marsters on the edge.

I think ET would be better on an edge too, he's quite creative and having him make 40+ tackles in the middle limits his other attributes. Also he would add stability to our edge maybe we can manufacture Aloioia into a 13 who can play decent minutes im not sure. I would love to prize Nathan Brown off Parra to play lock, im pretty sure ive heard someone on here say he'd never come back while JT was here door is open

Can I ask what is wrong with building our juniors? How is it that the Sydney Swans are able to build with their juniors? Is it a club culture problem?
I will wait to see how the signings work. 😱pen_mouth: 😱pen_mouth: :nerd:

The AFL has a draft rather than the jr pathway of the NRL.
The AFL also has stipulations in place to ensure that players drafted/developed by clubs are tied to the club for a decent amount of time, rather than the free for all we have in the NRL.

Don't the interstate clubs get some sort of priority for juniors from their state?

Yeah there's a few avenues outside of the draft, so the swans and giants probably get their pick of the 35 weirdos playing AFL in the Sydney comp.

We still need 80%+ goal kicker, prop and 2nd rower.

We need 2 props on the bench so Twal and …
ATM I would say Falise or Tatola
Similar situation is with 2nd row
McQueen,
Taylor
Aloiai
with Sue/Marsters on the bench.
Not bad, and arguably more balanced team, especially in the backs.
However, our forwards depth is still not great.
Go Tigers :sign:

With no Tedesco and Moses next season I would keep Elijah Taylor at 13 and work a structure that utlilises his ball playing ability.

Whilst we have great finishes signed up for next season we need a ball playing option other than Brooks and Reynolds. Hoping Lolohea can develop that part of his game at the back as well.

On a side note, Matulino is having a great game today against the Titans. We really have made some astute signings for 2018 and beyond

Wait until Cleary takes control of the juniors pathways and implements his strategies right down though all the team, with the coaching staff and his ideas as how to get the best outcomes for all our juniors.
Ivan mentioned this in either the first or second "Coach/CEO" Q&A sessions.

Triple M and Fox Sports' James Hooper has revealed that the Tigers have set their sights on a veteran to fill the absence left by James Tedesco's departure at season's end.

"The Wests Tigers have made a bit of a play for Michael Gordon to try to get him as their fullback for next season," Hoops said. Listen to the full report below.

"Ivan Cleary has obviously been very busy trying to strengthen his roster since he signed at Concord.

"I don't think Michael Gordon is actually going to go, I think he will stay at the Roosters next season even though James Tedesco is coming next season.

"He'll most likely take a position on the wing and just take a one-year deal.

"And he's actually going to knock back quite a considerable amount of money because the Tigers are prepared to offer him fullback money and he's a goal kicker as well.

"They have quite aggressively had a bit of a crack at him."

Gordon has been in great form with both play and boot, but what about Tui, is he not our fullback

Sounds like we are offering overs to him if thats the case he can stay at the roosters.
