Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

We have a lot of players that can do a job in the nrl, but few standouts. That's the problem. A team full of solid players should be competitive, but if a top side kicks into gear we can't match them consistently. We don't have individually brilliant players in our backline.

If our opponents choose to bomb us we'll be in trouble as we have the shortest backline in the comp, by a long way. Fonua, while short, seems quite competent in the air in both attack and defence which is a plus though. We lack height and pace in the backs but we won't be reliant on unproven kids which is a plus.

I also doubt Benji will be on the bench. Carrying a half is a waste of a spot and won't happen if we're playing 2 hookers. Marsters would probably be our bench utility.

I'd say we have
1 Tui
2 Nof
3 Suli
4 Milne
5 Fonua

14 Liddle/MMcW
15 Marsters
+2 props

Don't need MM - Liddle can play 80, and play it well. So who is your 9?
Hopefully not Taylor.

Liddle if fit has to play 80 and play to his huge talent. He is a much better hooker than Brailey but needs to build muscle. He is too slight for the rigours of hooker at this stage.

Taylor has played a bit of DH for NZ in the RLWC . He didn’t go to bad. He played a bit for us towards in end of 2017.
I can see him playing some 9 in 2018.
He’s not dynamic in that role but can do a job there. Maybe 20 mins max per game. Unless Liddle turns into the hulk in the preseason and strengtheds up. A lot of the good 9s aren’t much bigger than Liddle. Just more seasoned/hardened.

ET went really well for NZ at dummy half. He handles the defensive load well and his passing out of DH was excellent - he was getting it out in front of his halves and helping them play up tempo.

I think Ivan may well head into this coming season with who we have now , he may wait and see how the guys perform through the pre season and early trials before deciding if we need to spend more , we may be able to compete with what we have , we were going ok towards the end of last season and we are a better team on paper so maybe it's a wait and see game .

We need a top 30 so, we'll see 2 more signings. Wether that's just 2 ISP players getting promoted or 2 completely new signings is something we'll have to wait and see.

I'm confused… Surely the Highest Paid 30 players on Wests Tigers contracts make up our Top 30 regardless which competition they play in?

From what I know we need 30 players signed to NRL contracts. I believe we currently have 28, the rest of our squad being signed to 2nd tier ISP contracts (like Bailey Sironen). We can't use a player on 2nd tier contract in the NRL unless we get an exemption from the NRL. I'm pretty sure Ivan said in the last Q&A video that we have 28 players signed and have 2 spots left. This is how I'm seeing, someone can correct me if I'm wrong on that.

29\. Joel Thompson
30\. Jaelen Feeney

In my opinion, we can do without a dedicated bench Hooker. If we have Marshall on the bench he gives us options. Either he can slip into 9 or even go to 5/8 and move Reynolds to hooker. Between Marshall and Taylor, I reckon we've got enough cover for hooker should Liddle not last the 80

Regardless we’re going to have a great 17 next year. First time I can remember when you have to scratch your head to make some choices as to who is going to be in it. Great times ahead.

Joel Thompson is staying at the Dragons in 2018 he us seeing out his contract in the news yesterday I think

Hopefully Sheens takes Lawrence and that opens up another spot. I can’t get Lawrence in my 17 and he’s still on a good wicket. Great bloke, but ineffective player.

He’s been batted from pillar to post over the years. However when 100% fit , with his no stop defence the angles he runs , he still has something to offer in 2018\. Particularly if McQueen is injured .
Still if Sheens really wants him..I don’t think the club will stand in his way. If he does go …you’d want to make sure we have someone very good coming in to take that spot. We have enough depth already.

I've heard that teams do not need to fill all 30 spots in the squad.

Thompson staying probably means Pearce to Manly and Green to the Warriors

Cronk–>Roosters--Pearce-->Manly--Green-->Warriors--RTS-->Tigers 😛ray:

Works for me Tacky.

It works BUT I’m glad he is praying because that will be a miracle indeed!
