I give up Avo, Gal, Hobo and all the other Pascoe Haters.

Last week he forgot to put the garbage out, He signed Madge and then let him go holidays, Didn't comb his hair for the Q & A, He signed Jennings not Madge etc.

I think he is responsible for the crown of thorns starfish, global warming and just aboeverything else that is dodgy.

You guys should start a petition - we want a CEO.

Obviously in your opinions we don't have one.

I don’t hate Pascoe, I’ve never even met him. But I think he’s proven himself to be a poor CEO. I don’t think much of the board either.

Based on what ? He’s currently presiding over the first profitable period in west’s tigers history .
It’s been stating numerous times that his background is finance . Seems like financially we are doing alright .
He has finally gotten a COE off the ground . This has been talked about for 10 years and it’s finally here. Signed 2 top of the tree coaches , by all accounts.
Totally gutted the back room , to now have a really solid corporate roster.
Oh wait he didn’t sign your favourite footy player .... YOU SUCK PASCOE ... bla bla

3rd coach in 4 years
700k fine for incompetence
Never made finals

Extremely simplistic.

Was brought in when Taylor was already here. Blindsighted by clearly (as were we all). Best coach we've ever had now.

Intentions were right with the Robbie debacle and it was early in his tenure.

Had a massive cap issue to repair for most of his tenure so missing finals is almost a given.

If you reward CEOs who take short term over long term, like we always have, we'll never get out of our hole.

Ignoring everything else, the salary cap fine should have been the end of him.

Wonder what workplace that you operate in where you are sacked on your first mistake and all the good you've done, which no other one has done before in your role, is ignored.

I think most workplaces would fire someone for copping a 700k fine for not understanding their job

Pascoe was the fall guy for the Robbie situation. Do you think the board had nothing to do with the offer?

In all honesty he didn't need to be the fall guy. He could've thrown the entire board/management under the bus on that one but took the punishment dished out, which in turn tarnishes his reputation to some degree. He opted to take the hit for the good of the club, and in my opinion, was in the Tigers best interests.....

After the NRL investigated other clubs that cheated the cap they punished all involved, CEO's, football managers and board members. Only Pascoe copping sanctions points to him being the one responsible.
Unless you have done an investigation more in depth than the NRL, then I'd say you're having a huge guess.

just my gut instinct.....

Well if the NRL hates us as much as everyone thinks then they would sanctioned as many people as they could. They obviously only found one bloke responsible and he accepted that.

just seems suss that Pascoe did it all on his own and nobody else had any involvement in it whatsoever.....

gut instinct tells me he took the fall for the greater good is all I'm saying

Just on JT, while I didn't like him as a coach, I believe the motivation for his appointment really needs to come under scrutiny. In my view, one of the underlying reasons for a reluctance of top players to join the club is due to this issue.

If you're implying that his hire and his willingness to demote Farah are reasons players don't want to be here then shouldn't the re-signing of Farah have erased any player doubt?

It was a different culture at the club at that time clearly and people wouldn't highlight that in particular anymore. I'd say the Farah issue is just one of many small issues over 2 decades that has created a bigger perception of our club (Hoppa, cocaine, the premiership, 9th places, TPAs not being paid, lowly work conditions, the boys club, Sheen's, Wests v Balmain and on and on).

It's going to take years to turn it around. That's how change works. That's why the idea of Latrell coming here was crazy. It's also why Lee Hag. is saying things like "we're a big club" because during that change you need to work hard at a lot of small things to create the perception you want.

Why is this Pascoe debate in the Signings thread?

And why are people still discussing what he should wear & how often he should shave?!

Geez you muppets post a lot of irrelevant crap. Why don't you all post in the random crap thread or lament thread. They're there but no one uses them.
I feel sorry for those that still use pages, at least i can quickly scroll past most of this dribble.

It's the impression I get too. Develop and encourage the talented players as they come through then upgrade them as they begin to realise their potential while keeping a firm lid on the coffers.

Mate the storm are the benchmark . I don’t think that’s up for debate . I cannot remember them , in the Bellamy era , signing anyone of note .
They sign unproven talent , or unappreciated talent and nurture them .
Maguire is a protege of that system .Souths also did this.
It’s natural that that’s his preferred option . I even reckon personally that the LM signing was supposed to be a lightning rod ala Inglis for Souths. Oh wells .
There has been some dark years in the wilderness as tigers fans , I just refuse to believe that we arnt back in the game now .

I reckon we need an injection of talent but we don't have to recruit top tier talent to do that. Developing players is just if not more important.

As a bit of light relief in all this non signing stuff, a horse called Geo is about to run in the 3rd at Sydney today, should be a beauty, paying around $5

I know this has been said before but I think the strategy of building from the bottom, in other words sign a swathe of promising juniors from around the league and develop them patiently is really the way to go for the Tigers. As many have said, we just don’t have the drawing power of other clubs to snare the marque players, actually we plain haven’t earned any type of drawing power. Nearly all of our star players have come from within, Benji being the classic example. Maybe when we have begun to assemble a talented squad, established a stable coaching and management team we will begin to be attractive to the elite players, who should be signed based on need or an attempt to provide the icing on the cake. By developing players from the junior ranks there is a much better chance of establishing team harmony and avoiding attitudes of entitlement and selfishness. It’s a proven recipe. Look at the Storm.

Thats exactly what is happening. We are building from the ground up. Its refreshing and why i refuse to entertain the sky is falling brigade.

Interesting side note is what Maguire comes back from England with. Canberra had the same problem attracting top line talent. They worked out a way around it. Smart operators usually do. Others sign players like Rankin and Packer.

While this is all good, we have had extremely talented juniors in our system previously. These are juniors who have gone on to future success. I am not referring to the big three. What confidence should we have that this "second coming" will not end in a repeat performance of the failures of the past?

The fact that Maguire isn't relying on our own juniors. Previous coaches ruined our junior system. This guy is stocking it with the best from around the country.
