I keep a spreadsheet which is an educated guess, and it did have us with $1.7m spare with 25 signed when the whole Latrell thing first picked up pace

Since then we picked up Leilua ($400k) and Musgrove ($200k max, could be less) and extended Twal, Talau & Garner

I've juggled a few others up (Jennings) and down based on updated info and I have us now sitting with $1m for 3 open spots

Two of JAC, Douhei or AJ plus Stefano for 2020 would to me have us with an improved squad on last year plus with a good proportion of our squad on the way up in their careers, I don't think that's been the case for a while

Agreed just as long as we can sign 2 of them and get Stefano over this year, but again it’s a big if for weststigers

News is AJ wants to see out his contract with Souths and is determined to stay put. Let's see how that works out for him. On the other hand Marwene Hiroti is very keen. He's on a train and trial with the Sharks but his preference is the Tigers, most likely more opportunities.

Wheee did you see that?

A source at Souths

That’s a shame and surprising. With us has the chance to play fullback and get good money. There’s a chance with Souths he doesn’t make first grade. Weird.

He might stick it out til June. But when he’s In reggies behind

Mitchell
Graham
Burns
Roberts
Gagai

He probably changes his mind.

So will Thompson be fullback come round 1?

Unless they get aetkins or AJ yes

Where does Drinkwater sit on your VFM list?

If souffs truly don't have a cap issue for this year then why would they encourage a young player who their coach "thinks highly of" to negotiate elsewhere with 2 yrs left to run on his current contract.. smoke & mirrors...
At the very least Douehi is solid depth for souffs given the fact LM's fitness will be targeted by opposition teams and will likely pick up an injury or 2 sometime this year.

I'd say call their bluff for this season because they're most definitely gonna feel the cap squeeze next year. Then when they're feeling the pinch, and if he's still available, demand they pay 1/2 the freight(250K) for his final year.

This isn't a do or die signing for us so it has to work in our favor, otherwise focus on the bigger fish next off season.

Mate we focused on the biggest fish this year and didn’t land him ,are we going to use different bait next year

If JAC ends up at the Rorters .. once again the NRL closes it eyes and says well done .. only shows the NRL encourages the stronger teams to get stronger by cheating while the NRL pisses on the lower weaker clubs .. !!

And encourages the weaker team/s to go to Perth.

Not that worried, being patient. Meanwhile, Melbourne Storm - only 23 players signed

Wow, only 23 officially, hard to see that figure being real at this point in time.

I am still stunned Doueihi is on 500K. There is NO way Souths are cap compliant if he's on something that insane when they have Gagai, AJ, Walker, Reynolds etc etc etc

Also forgot they brought back Bryson Goodwin. Just collecting backs...

Who said Douehi is on 500 k

Article posted a few pages back. True or not, I don't know, but that's where that came from.

OK ..yeah I highly doubt anyone would be paying 500 k for a fringe player ....well maybe us ...but not a real club

Give it a rest. Why do you bother to support the club?

Because I have a heavy investment ....43 years .....1st year since the WT's I didn't re join as a member

Its about time this club repaid ALL of us for our investments

And lastly it's simple ...don't like my posts , put me on foe or don't read them , no one stuck a gun to your head

So much for us being the preferred destination for JAC.

Another good player who doesn’t want to come here, same old song

And one who didn’t even want to leave us in the first place! Once these young guys experience greener pastures they rarely want to come back (WT legends Benji & Farah excluded). It’s like leaving Sydney for a nicer, quieter place and then being asked to return - believe me, I’ve experienced it, you just don’t want to go back! ?

No one knows what anyone is getting paid and therein lies the problem with the system.

Frustrates me when I hear certain clubs claim they have plenty of cap space following multiple blue chip signings, when deep down you know they're full of it..
We only have to go back a little while to see evidence of this - e.g. Bulldogs, Storm, Slimey's...

Player contract & Clubs cap figures need total transparency not only to Turdberg and his cronies but to everyone involved(including fans).
Point in fact; we've just had several articles printed in a 24hr period, who all quote different current cap space figures for the tigers. Media have as much of an idea as us mugs, and without a definitive source for salary & figures, the ongoing amateur hour at NRL HQ will continue indefinitely.

Current system is akin to how the banking sector self regulates. The big 4 literally have teams of risk assessors who analyse which laws are profitable to break. I.E. does the profit from breaking this law outweigh the eventual fines associated.
Nrl clubs are left to their own devices and any cap check or investigation is always done in hindsight

That would be fabulous, but I’ve resigned myself to the fact that it won’t happen. Hoping for Stefano’s release to play next season but I really don’t think our backline prospects will change at all next year. It’s too little too late for 2020. Maybe the year after, but who really knows.

Time for you to swim back out again, sadly 😂. Time for me to give rugby league the flick also since I said i would if Souths signed Mitchell for less 😱

And look, I don’t wanna bag Pascoe, cos overall I think he’s been ok, and i’ve had a couple good personal dealings with him. But......It doesn’t come across well that he’s still out there promoting all the cash we have in the war chest and have done nothing with it. This isn’t October/November. It’s mid January and have nothing to show for this supposed great position we’re in. Does he still talk this way if we haven’t signed anyone of note by June? I can see both sides. I get that people get frustrated when others use him as a punching bag, but I get where the complainers come from. He sounds like a used car salesman. And at this point in time, it’s beyond frustrating.

Chin up Spud, there is plenty of jostling between clubs and players going on in the background and they will start to land in position soon.

We will sign an outside back before the season starts. Who and when, who knows. But we're targeting speed, and have been for months. If we end up with nothing that would be a dismal failure from our recruitment team, especially considering we have lots of money to spend.

If Souths backended Doueji deal like has been suggested (300+500+600k) then it is reasonable for them to have to chip in an amount which equates to us paying his average salary for that period, about 450k. It's too easy to rort the cap to sign players on back ended deals and then offload them without offering to chip in - and it's extremely rough on the player. This is why the league outlawed backended deals, or at least they said they did. Maybe Adam signed beforehand.

How's the cruise?

Yeah good. Sitting in Noumea atm. Really dig this place. I’m working on my Greg Louganis incase we haven’t signed anyone by the 27th. Which is looking likely.

Half your luck, sounds great. Definitely keep practicing... although i have a good feeling we'll get Doueihi. Just a hunch.
