Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

Sadly a lot of the banter we are having today about our club is the same banter we have been having for years. I do have plenty of faith in Madge..but he is only human. I guess once the season starts my mood will change, but I am a little flat at our short and long term prospects.

Anyway let’s hope they put egg on my face

Don’t get this love for Douhi. 500k is way overs IMO.

A solid player but I certainly haven’t seen anything to suggest he is worth that much to any club. Good luck to him if he gets it.

If we are getting him, I hope it's for a specific position. We already have Mbye as a very high priced utility. At least AD would be on less coin.

I’m gonna say a name that may cop some backlash but I honestly think Jack Bird could be a good signing for us, definitely will not be commanding the money he is getting currently and would almost certainly have Brisbane chip in a bit for his final year of his contract and could also maybe insert a club option in the second year depending on his form

He’s still only 24 and maybe a change of scenery and coming back to Sydney could do him good

Would much prefer to have Bird over Doueihi at the club imo

If souffs truly don't have a cap issue for this year then why would they encourage a young player who their coach "thinks highly of" to negotiate elsewhere with 2 yrs left to run on his current contract.. smoke & mirrors...
At the very least Douehi is solid depth for souffs given the fact LM's fitness will be targeted by opposition teams and will likely pick up an injury or 2 sometime this year.

I'd say call their bluff for this season because they're most definitely gonna feel the cap squeeze next year. Then when they're feeling the pinch, and if he's still available, demand they pay 1/2 the freight(250K) for his final year.

This isn't a do or die signing for us so it has to work in our favor, otherwise focus on the bigger fish next off season.

Mate we focused on the biggest fish this year and didn’t land him ,are we going to use different bait next year

I get that, but I also think every situation is unique and it seems LM had his sights set on souffs this whole time. Perfect situation for him on & off the field given he's clearly higher maintenance than most and souffs have their culture set up to manage it better than us.

2021 negotiations is where Tigers management will determine their fate. Too many good players off contract that fill our exact needs. Add to that the dead weight contracts which are expiring from the cleary era puts a lot more pressure on recruitment wins considering it'll be the best cap situation the club has ever been in...

I truly hope you are right ,but it doesn’t always work out well for tigers fan’s if we can’t make the finals this season I worry how we will attract quality players to the club for 2021

Tbh I don’t want either AJ or Doueihi at the club if it’s to play fullback, would much prefer wait it out til when a specialist fullback is available

Doueihi or Bird as my centre I would prefer Bird

AJ as a winger would also be nice if it’s at around 300k

Doueihi would have had some of his current year contract already covered by South's would he not have? Surely that would get taken into consideration by WT for signing him...

Latrell M was paid $117k by the Roosters so far this year for his contract according to reports. That's a decent amount of the annual sum - could be 20-30%

Quote: Myself and Beardigger just had a quick chat with Nick Pappas ,what a gentleman we asked about Dehoui and without saying too much we get the impression both Dehou and Johnston are gone.
He also said Titans were being silly about releasing Arrow

From CCBunny off the Warren.

FWIW

Hasn't Bird had a lot of injuries? At his best it would be great to get him.

Bird has chronic injuries. No one will go near him as a result. He will be a Josh / Moltzen by late 20s. Play one game, miss three...

Why would a superior player come to us to earn 25% less than the current inadequate players? Johnson's value is about 400k. Jennings 200k. Nof 300k. Thompson 200. I'd put Douehi at maybe 400

You worry how we will attract players in future?
Money, money, money.

Don’t worry about these last few weeks, Latrell wanted to be at Souths pure and simple. His dad confirmed we were close and he waited for Souths to get sorted.

90% of players will come for the ‘right price’

I feel like there's zero downside to Doueihi? Doesnt work out at fullback, We would have a 5/8 for Benji. Worst case scenario we finally get some size on the wings.

I do worry about succession planning. Who is the candidate to replace Benji?

Good point, Nov, Dec, and part of Jan paid, thats maybe 25%...

Edit: So if he is on $500k, $125 is already paid. $375 would be alright and thats with Souths paying no more.

So much for us being the preferred destination for JAC.

Did anyone really know that for a fact or was it just a guess because he was a club junior?

A mod said he knew it as a fact.

Willow said it

Apparently the Dogs have offered him a Motza. You can’t hold Willow to that unfortunate change in circumstances.

I'd rather see him at rorters than dog's

And no I'm not holding willow to anything

Respect him very much

You can only post what you hear and he doesn't come on here to stir things up

I was just stating that he reported WT as JAC preferred destination so there probably is still some hope

Hey, no problem. I realise that 99% of posts here are opinion. I think what’s going wrong for us is that players have this perception we are desperate and as such are only prepared to move for a significant pay rise. I think we reinforced that view with our handling of the Mitchell negotiations.
More recently Pascoe has affirmed that’s the case by trying to turn it around by giving the media “we won’t pay overs”. IMO

It will take time but Madge will fix this place

I think we will all be surprised as the year progresses at how well we are improving

I just hope it equates to wins and not lots of close losses

What do you see as Madge’s immediate areas of concern? What would you like fixed?

I think our forwards hold up quite well in most games

We just struggle to put points when our forwards lay the foundation that should lead to points

That costs us massively

I think with Madge as coach and our young forwards with another off season under him and Musgrove and LL joining us we will go much better this year which is the opposite to most posters on here who think we will go backwards

I think we could use maybe one more big name forward but wouldn't just take anyone as they would need to be a big step up on what we have or not worth worrying about

As most can see on here I think we really need some strike out wide to finish off our forwards hard work

I don't think the forwards get the rewards from our backline they deserve

I think if we had the player's out wide to put the points on the board they would go to another level as they would be getting rewarded for their hardwork

We have players like Garner who do so well running of Brooks

Imagine LM outside him and than Brooks has the choice of Garner (who does well without an explosive back outside him) and LM to pass it to

It would have defences on the back foot

And Benji

It's probably his last year

He still creates so much space and so many options for support plays but he I s going to play his last year with no one explosive running off him

So explosive outside backs who can points on the board, who can win the race to grubbers in goal, who can have defences in 2 minds, who can score length of field tries

Douhei would be good as we don't really have a fullback although he isn't explosive he is better than what we have and would be a ball playing fullback which would create oppotunitities

Xerri would be amazing but isn't going to happen

So that pretty much leaves AJ and JAC

Both explosive pace who can score length of field tries and win the race to a ball but won't create oppotunitities or be the fullback or centre running outside Garner when he is running Brooks

Strongly agree with virtually all of this post.

There also has to be some objectivity about where the club is at presently and where it has come from.
Blind Freddy knows that to be successful on the field you need to be financially sound off it. You can’t have one without the other. So to be so dismissive of those improvements as if they are insignificant, stinks of someone with a cross to bare rather than someone who wants to discuss things rationally. Blanket blaming is a cop out and identifies nothing - “the club” we have at the moment is nothing like “the club” it was 5 years ago and nor are the people making the decisions.

I don't have a cross to bear at all. Why would I? I'm a supporter of the club and I want us to be successful. It's something i've invested significant time and money in throughout my life. However, i'm also going to call it as I see it and until we start to see some success on the field I won't be satisfied.

Let's hope a few of our current players make the step up this season. I'd say they'd have a point to prove given all the talk around bringing talent to the club. They'd know that a solid season could be rewarded with a contract upgrade considering the club has cash to spend next off season.
