Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

That Doueihi-Johnston rumour for Addo Carr is downright laughable and lazy journalism at its finest. Whoever wrote that should be sacked immediately.

So a team (Melbourne) who are having issues with their cap, to the point where they are struggling to fill their required spots are trading a guy on 350k for two guys earning a combined 900k for 2020?

Not to mention the reason Doueihi wants to leave Souths so he can start at 1 or 6, yet he wouldn’t get a look in at Melbourne In those positions because both Papenhuyzen and Munster already occupy those positions. Would find himself right back on the bench. Johnston is going to leave a spot on the wing at Souths for a spot on the wing at Melbourne...

In other news, Cotric had his meeting with Canberra today and seems to be puzzled about his long term role in Canberra as they just signed Curtis Scott to play in the centre role he thought he was inheriting from BJ.

Before everyone goes into meltdown, this doesn’t mean he won’t re-sign with Canberra. Just something to keep an eye on.

This guy would be a great signing. Young and talented and plays a specialist position....

apart from another acl tear there is too much upside for us to not have a go at him.

Which guy? Doueihi? Plays a specialist position? Has played every position 1 - 7, the fact he is not a specialist is my biggest problem with him.

haven't people been saying he was a fullback but played elsewhere or have I got my information wrong??

He plays fullback and 5/8. He filled in one game on the wing and played one game at halfback when coming back from injury and Reynolds was out.

Cheers for that.....

***So what is his position then?*** A 5/8 that plays a bit fullback, or a fullback that plays a bit of 5/8?

Bingo. Do we need another one?

Fullback 2020, 5/8 2021 onwards.

i get the possibilities and understand the logic behind them. My point is do we want to start an experiment at 6 in 2021? There is ZERO evidence that Doueihi is an NRL standard 5/8 let alone one that will get us to finals success. He might be, but there is no evidence that he is.
Doeuhi can’t play five eight. If we get him then he has to play fullback

I thought he was leaving because the coach told him he was surplus to their needs.

We would have more cash than faders, give him an offer!

I was lurking around the Souths forum, and they won’t be happy to lose Adam Doueihi. Personally, I like Thompson at wing. I would love to see Madge land 2 of these .. Doueihi, JAC, and Alex Johnston. All 3 would be too much to hope for.? What do you think?

Would love Douehi (if he stays injury free). Pass on Johnston, he is bog average Thompson would do a much better job on the wing than AJ.
Addo-Carr would be handy in attack, his defence is ordinary though. After the way he dogged our club last time would they want this snake in the grass back again?

Not sure he dogged the club previously, rather was given an offer to go play under Bellamy or stay with JT whilst our CEO was overseas.
Proved to be the right decision if you take off the WT glasses as he has won premierships , Origin and played for his country.

I would have him back without any concerns as I would Tedesco. Moses and Woods are different though they can stay where they are.

Tigers to pounce on NRL market with $1m

Armed with a war chest of more than $1 million in salary cap space, the Wests Tigers remain ready to pounce in their search for a star outside back.

But they're not going to rushed into a impulse buy.

After being snubbed by Latrell Mitchell, the Tigers are expected to take their time instead of letting their enormous cash freedom burn a hole in their pocket.

Mitchell is believed to have been offered around $1 million a season to play fullback for the Tigers, only to take less money with South Sydney.

Tigers coach Michael Maguire is now expected to start the season with the reliable Corey Thompson in the No.1 jumper.

The Tigers currently have 27 spots filled in their NRL top 30 and will need to sign or promote two more players by March 1.

They will likely keep one spot open until the June 30 deadline, when the market traditionally balloons with agitated players.

The wait-and-see strategy highlights a reluctance from the club to repeat past mistakes of hastily signing players on long-term deals.

Already they have been linked to Cronulla fullback Matt Moylan, Brisbane playmaker Anthony Milford, and former winger Josh Addo-Carr.

The Kangaroos and NSW State of Origin star will be released from Melbourne to return to Sydney if the terms are right.

Reports linking South Sydney utility Adam Doueihi to the club are understood to be wide of the mark.

The Tigers are working on luring Parramatta young gun Stefano Utoikamanu early after signing him on a three-year-deal from 2021 to beef up their pack.

The hulking teenage prop is currently on a development contract with the Eels.

Should Utoikamanu be released, it would still leave the Tigers with significant cap space to spend on their backline heading into the 2020 season.

However, if no one of interest becomes available, they have the freedom to "front load" player contracts for the upcoming seasons.

The Tigers are also weighing up the effects of a potential suspension for utility Josh Reynolds, with the NRL yet to make a decision over whether he will be stood down while facing domestic violence charges.

The 30-year-old has pleaded not guilty to a charge relating to an alleged domestic violence incident, but could be stood down until his next court hearing in July at the NRL's discretion.

The Tigers are eager to keep their options open should Reynolds be suspended and they need to buy a replacement.

Was he not asked to put off contract negotiations for a week or 2 until Pascoe returned from holidays yet he signed for Melbourne in that time anyway? If so, that's dogging the club in my book.
He was on Matt Johns show joking that he had signed with the Storm pretty much behind WT's back. Behind the fake laugh and halfwit personality lies a slimy customer IMO. Our club has already seen our fair share of these types, Matterson, Moses, Woods, Tedesco etc etc.

You lock your good players up full stop. Before him Korobeite left and after JAC Papenhuyzen went. These are franchise players who bring the crowd and bucks into the club. Too late now..

That is a bit over the top. Neither of these guys are franchise players. I don't even think those players exist in rugby league.

We still haven't recovered from their losses. Disgraceful retention and the club deserves to wear the black eye and answer why Taylor and Potter were put in charge of coaching.

Yep I saw quite a bit of him in the juniors. He always had it. Time for JAC and Douehi to be at Concord.

I think there’s so much pressure on coaches to get results quickly that too much focus is on the experienced player market. We should only buy players if we have no one in our lower grades to promote. Madge appears to be thinking like Sheens . It’s the only way to play consistent finals footy. Maybe that’s why he can foster that vital teamwork required to win games?

I am still stunned Doueihi is on 500K. There is NO way Souths are cap compliant if he's on something that insane when they have Gagai, AJ, Walker, Reynolds etc etc etc

Also forgot they brought back Bryson Goodwin. Just collecting backs...

Who said Douehi is on 500 k

Article posted a few pages back. True or not, I don't know, but that's where that came from.

OK ..yeah I highly doubt anyone would be paying 500 k for a fringe player ....well maybe us ...but not a real club

Give it a rest. Why do you bother to support the club?

Because I have a heavy investment ....43 years .....1st year since the WT's I didn't re join as a member

Its about time this club repaid ALL of us for our investments

And lastly it's simple ...don't like my posts , put me on foe or don't read them , no one stuck a gun to your head

Will do. I've been following magpies since 1965 and WT since inception, I too have a big emotional investment in the club. Anyhow I haven't made foes before on forums but I think I'll have to here. Cheers.

Funny how some think they have some God given right to tell others how to support their club

... then support it

I am ...my way

We are going to be in a worse position than we were last season

You want to sit back and accept it fine .......that's not my way

I don't think as fans people realize that the acceptance of this club's crap is half of this club's problem

They know no matter how much they screw things up ...people will keep coming back ......record memberships based on the signing of Luciano Leilua

I'm sure not part of the problem ...look in your own backyard before you piss in mine

Being a red hot fan doesn’t mean you have to be silent and blind about your clubs short fillings and our club has had plenty. Looking at our roster at present I don’t like our chances in 2020, but with three gaps to fill that could change a tad, but I don’t expect to much. Anyway football clubs are like governments, if the majority of their voters and supporters blindly accept their policies, they will never change them.

Just my two bobs worth..but I am a fanatical supporter but also a realist

Be nice to be back in the 2009 2010

Classic example? The Eels were so focussed on the player market that they lost one of their best prospects ever. Madge can obviously recognise this lack of promotion from within at other clubs too. imo

I,like others on here would love to get AD,AJ
Or even gagai(not too many keen on him)
We definitely need some extra spark in our attack.
But in all seriousness I genuinely think we are going into this season with our current roster with some upgraded juinors
My hopes are with Tommy T being rookie of the year 😂
